I so regret that my Mother spent the last months of her life in this place. While there are good and caring staff members, the same cannot be said for the administrative staff. The overworked nurses and med techs for the most part did a good job. However communication between staff & shifts was sorely lacking. Moms family would ask questions about her care and the only persons we could get a straight answer from was the independent hospice care providers. The problem with that was the administrative representative openly considered any request from Hospice as an unwanted intrusion. She went so far in making that point that she came into the room with Mom and I on the last day of Moms life to berate me for hospice worker ordering rails for the bed. We had requested rails for several weeks from the facility and were ignored. As we were for almost anything that was asked. After I expressed opinions on who I held responsible for the lack of care (it wasn’t the med techs or the nurses) the staff member left and returned with med techs demanding that I tell them who was the problem. When I refused to respond to this, she continued heckling me in front of them. Again, in the room where my Mother was actively dying. It only ended after I repeatedly refused to discuss it further, finally ending only when my brother-in-law entered. It’s been several months, but I can only just now talk about the situation.

Mountain View Healthcare was neither the worst or the best facility that we visited for my grandfather. It was chosen in the end because it was close to home and not a complete run down. The facility is clean and seemed to be ran by people who cared about the residents. Staff was friendly and would always try to take the time to talk to the family members. If not right when the question was asked, then as soon as they had the time. The nurses and aides were especially helpful, more so than the administrators and charge nurses, who seemed to be more interested in what outsiders thought of them than the actual residents themselves. They do have an excellent activities program with multiple times a day activities for the residents, including games, reading, and coffee hours. On Sunday they have nice church services ran by a different church every week from the community. Meal times were a nice change from what is usually seen in facilities like this. Great care was taken with likes and dislikes, as well as special requests. Even vegetarian options were offered to residents who choose to eat that way. Luckily my grandfather was able to come home after a few months on home health, but he said he wouldn't mind going there again if he had to.
