My mom has been living at Brasstown Manor for 3 years. She has lived on the independent side and now she is on the assisted living side. I visited several facilities before I decided on this facility. I am very pleased with the facility itself. I am also pleased with the caregivers and all the staff at the facility. All the staff really do care about your loved ones.Brasstown gets a 5 star rating from me. Look around all facilities are not created equal
What you can do with Caring
About Brasstown Manor in Hiawassee, Georgia
We are a senior living community located in the beautiful North GA mountains overlooking Lake Chatugue. Our community enjoys four beautiful seasons with all the color and splendor of the mountains making it the perfect location to retire.
Our community population is approximately half Independent Living Residents and half Assisted Living Residents. Both options offer different floor plans, levels of services and appropriate activities. We offer a variety of meal plans, housekeeping and salon services.
We believe that our staff is our biggest asset. Most of our caregivers have been a part of our community for over 5-8 years--with some even longer! Lack of caregiver turnover and having people who really care about our Residents make Brasstown Manor a wonderful, safe, and warm place to live. We have excellent healthcare available from local practitioners to specialists from nearby Atlanta.
Please call and come by for a tour and see for yourself!

I went on a tour with Julie who was very upbeat and professional and answered my questions and, as a retired healthcare professional, I was impressed with what I saw. I will be bringing my Mother here for a tour and I hope she loves it.

The tour I had at Brasstown Manor was nice. They have lots of common rooms for people to get together and play bingo (they were doing bingo when we were there). We saw three different rooms and all of them were adequately sized and spaced. So, it was a nice facility. The grounds were nice. They had gardens outside and a screened-in porch. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. There was a library, a game room where they had a TV in, and the room that they had the bingo in was also their dining hall. They have a gazebo out front. The only issue was the long hallway. It would have been a lot of walking.

Brasstown Manor Senior Living was a very nice place. It was just more expensive, but it was newer and I really liked it. I sat down with the person who toured me, talked to me, and wanted to know my story and all about my dad. Then she showed me around. It had a little gazebo out front that had sidewalks to it, and it's hidden from the main street. It had beautiful mountain views. They usually take their residents out on boats, picnics, shopping, and all kinds of stuff. They had a huge lobby room, and they had a lot of big areas where they do Bible studies or different activities. It was just very well thought out.

I have provided care and visited this facility for 15 years. The staff and management are very caring and are genuinely interested in keeping their residents safe and well. Our home health agency has provided care to those residents who also need skilled nursing and therapy for the past 15 years and we have a good working relationship. We conference with their clinical services director weekly to make sure our patients and their residents are receiving the very best care available. Someone from our agency is at the facility almost daily and the staff is always caring and helpful. They are constantly taking trips, holding events, and other activities suited for the Assisted living residents and their independent living residents. If my parents needed the services at this facility I would be more than comfortable for them to live there.

My mother did not initially want to move in to assisted living. She has lived in the assisted living side of Brasstown for 8 months and she has thrived. The staff has done a marvelous job of caring for her and loving her. The experience has been more than I could have hoped for her.

This is a business. It is an old folks home. They collect your money and make it into their money. It is very expensive if you don't continue to negotiate with the manager. They will ask you to sign a contract for $4500 a month per person!! For $100 a day, a couple can live in Belize, Portugal, Crete, Malta, Puerto Vallarta or a thousand other exotic places from the travel magazines. The Hiawassee residents are happy to be close to some family, so they don't understand their alternatives. Management refused to process assisted living insurance claims. Tenants are responsible for the entire lease, even if they are unhappy there. Management refused to honor the wishes of the tenants. This is a prison, not an apartment building. This was a Horrifying experience. Do not do this to your parents.

Some dear people to me live in both the independent living side and the assisted living. The staff is always so welcoming and kind. It is nice that I can bring my dog (with a shot record) to visit them knowing that it provides a lot of comfort.

Under new management! Since management has changed hands, it has become obvious of the change in the atmosphere. The staff is all very welcoming and seem to care for each resident. I am happy to know that many people that I love are being well taken care of!

My dear friend lived at Brasstown Manor for several years and received so much love and care from the staff! Brasstown Manor became his family went above and beyond to make sure his quality of life was the best! I visited him often and personally can attest to his happiness. He has sadly passed away now and I will miss him, but will still visit his family at Brasstown Manor!

I am more than disgusted. I had a family member who lived in Independent Living and then moved to Assisted Living. Her medications were constantly messed up and there were days she never received any. Administration brushed it off as nothing and they can't keep a director for the resident services area.
Very Very Disappointed

My relative was in their assisted living facility for 6 days recently and they did not give her any medication for 6 days. Needless to say she was quickly moved back out.

Brasstown Manor had very nice and spacious one-bedroom apartments, full-sized kitchens with full-sized appliances, nice and large bathrooms, walk-in showers with seats, double closets, very large bedrooms, and a balcony that’s like a little patio area. It was actually the cheapest of everything I’ve looked at, and that’s why I went to visit it. The only thing was it didn’t have handicapped parking close to the entrance, which didn’t make sense to me. They even had washer and dryer hookups in the apartment unit and basically everything I wanted. They offer good transportation service to doctors’ appointments, food, shopping, entertainment, field trips, and things. They had a nice clubhouse, game room, and a good activity schedule. There wasn’t anything there that they didn’t have. The only thing that they didn’t have was a pool. They had a library, a beautiful lobby with TVs, and very comfortable recliners. It’s beautiful. I’m a retired woodshop teacher, and they have absolutely beautiful antiques spread throughout the whole facility.

Helping to see to the affairs and medical needs of a dear friend who resides in the Independent Plus area of Brasstown Manor, I have had occasion to visit the Manor at least once a week for the past 18 months. Moving into a residence center is a major adjustment for most folks. Giving up their independence, living amongst strangers, bringing just a small percentage of your treasures collected over a lifetime; these are the most difficult aspects of this transition. I have found that everyone affiliated with Brasstown Manor, from the top administrators to the guy that fixes the creak in the door, are committed to making a new resident’s transition as pleasant as possible. After the resident adjusts to their new, extended family, everyone continues to be kind, efficient and truly accommodating. Yes, the facility is beautiful, and so are the hearts of the people that work there.

This is a beautiful facility in the North Georgia Mountains. Our dear friend moved in shortly before Christmas. The facility was decorated so beautifully! The dining hall is excellent, clean, and serves the residents cheerfully. The staff is very compassionate, accommodating, and responds to needs in a timely manner. The administrative personnel are quick to retrieve printed copies of any billing information that is required for filing insurance, Veteran's benefits, etc., and offers in-house assistance for filing paperwork. Patient medication is distributed in individual packets each day, however, the first two days of our friend's stay, the attendant handed her erroneous medication for another resident. This was quickly averted and no errors have occurred since and there was no ill affects since the erroneous medication was not taken, but the error caught in time.I would certainly reccommend this facility to anyone with a relative or friend in need of assisted living.

I visited this facility a few months ago to visit a family member of mine who had recently taken residence there. This facility was and is very welcoming and visitor friendly, the staff made a very welcoming enviorment for mhy family and I. The staff however seemed very rushed, as if they did not have the appropriate amount of time to care for each resident on an individual basis which was worrisome to me. I also noticed that they did not practice universal precautions appropriatly with proper handwashing techniques or glove use. Over all I foun the facility to be very clean and organized, so perhaps the problem is that the employee's have become to comfortable and just need to be re-briefed a to why proper tchnique is so vital in assited living and long term car facilities in controlling the spread of virises and bacteria, these are very important.

The facility is in good condition and well-maintained, but some of the employees working there during the time I was visiting my great aunt were a little brisk. One of the CNAs was rude to my mother when she asked for directions, cutting here off and telling us to stop bothering her. Other than an aide who was also short with us, everyone else was kind and helpful. The rooms are large and have quality furnishings, and my great aunt really enjoyed the activities they had on a daily basis. My great aunt needed full time care and she said that the nurses and doctors actually listened to her. We had moved her to Brasstown Manor after bad experiences with another living facility in Blairsville. This location was much nicer and worked out better for both our family and my great aunt. She lived there until she was hospitalized.

Brasstown Manor is clean and appears to have been designed with the residents' comfort in mind. The decor in the common rooms is beautiful. The staff is friendly and courteous. There appears to be regular activities for the residents, including trips to go shopping. If patients have any concerns, there is a nurse available during the day to speak with or the nurse can be called after hours if necessary. Chatuge Regional Hospital is nearby so emergency care is available within minutes. Night shift does appear to be a little understaffed, although that may have changed since my visit. While I understand that a full staff isn't necessary when most of the residents are sleeping, I would prefer that there be more than two people to cover the entire facility, including the independent living wing.
