"My mom stayed in Robin Way for respite care. We liked it except it's not a secure facility, and she keeps running away. Nevertheless, we loved it there. They did a great job. They were friendly and kind. They took care of my mom. It was wonderful. We didn't have my mom's room decorated, but some of the residents had their rooms so nice. They were so cute. They have a little couch, a bedroom, and a kitchen. The kitchen has a stove and a refrigerator, but the stoves aren't plugged in, so they can't use them unless they have a guest come who wants to cook for them, and then they'll plug in the stove for them. They're not on, which is cute because they would think 'Oh, someday I can make my own food,' but they never have to. They serve three meals and then they have snacks. You can even bring your own snacks because there's a refrigerator in the room. They have an all-you-can-drink area. If you want tea or juice any time of the day, that's open. I didn't try the food, but all the residents were like, 'Oh, this is so good.' And they had cheesecake. The day we went, they had a choice, 'Would you like beef or turkey?' They didn't have to just eat what they were serving because they had a choice. Regarding their building, they were under construction. They were putting in all new floors. My mom's room was perfect. Her room was super clean, and they cleaned her room. It was super cheap for us. It was a whole lot cheaper to keep my mom there for a couple of weeks at respite. If we could do that again, we would do that in a minute. "

"We liked Grand Victorian of Crystal Lake, and they still keep in touch, which is kind of nice to know how they're doing. It's just that my dad does require some extra care. It's typically supposed to be one person assisting all the time, but he has at least two people assisting right now. I liked the size of the rooms. They're really nice. They made it feel more like an apartment than a room. Their dining room was very nice and well-kept. They had many servers. The food looked good. We did not eat it, but we were touring while they were eating, and it looked like it was very well maintained. Claudia did a great job with the tour and staying in touch. She's very kind, very caring, and took the time to show us everything we needed to see and answer all our questions."

"They were very hospitable at Gurnee Place Memory Care. They were very kind. They answered all our questions. We're not going to go there because it seems a bit dark. As soon as we walked in, there were a whole bunch of people. I realized it was during their exercise time, but you couldn't even walk through the door without bumping into people. Everyone was very nice. We just didn't like the setup. It was too cramped. I don't want my mom to feel like she is being hidden away. However, the staff who gave the tour was very nice, and the facility was very clean."

"I had been to Galloway Senior Living, so it was interesting to see how they have adjusted the facilities to become senior care. I had been there when it was a hotel and a country club because my sister had her wedding reception there, and they did a really good job. It still has a hotel feel, but also an apartment feel, which is nice because you don't want it to feel like a nursing home. They have a lot of facilities that they had as a country club that are still available: There is a golf course next door, plenty of places to walk, big, spacious meeting rooms, and cute little salon meeting rooms. There is a bunch of stuff that we like, and it's very close, like less than five minutes away from my parents. They have a lot of natural light, and I love that. They gave us an assortment of their baked goods to try. They make them in-house. Lunch was just finishing up, so we saw people eating, and it looked like a good meal. We saw their menus. We had a chance to talk to one of their residents while we were waiting for the person to come and give us the tour. It was nice because it was her and her daughter, so they were giving us the inside scoop on the house. They like this place. We got a lot of positive feedback from that place. We like the people, the atmosphere, and the location."

"We like Bickford of Gurnee. It's very open. There's a lot of light, a lot of movement, and a lot of activities for them to do. They have a garden in the backyard. My mom hasn't been able to get into her garden in probably a decade because of her knees, and they have raised garden accessible beds, so that's a huge plus for Mom. They have a crossword puzzle club, which is even better for my mom. The price is right around what we need it to be, and they are willing to adjust their pricing if necessary because they're working for the family. I like that they're willing to do that. They gave us some snacks, and they were delicious. We saw what everyone was eating because we came around lunchtime. We saw them preparing the food. It wasn't pre-packaged stuff that was just heated up; they were making the food there, so we really liked that one. I like the building and the layout."

"We toured Theresa's Home Care LLC 1. It was very nice. It seemed very clean. It's a home. It's not like an institution. It's not like a facility, so it's homey, and you get that homey feeling. We only really met with Teresa. There were some nurses there, and the dietary people were there, but we didn't meet them. Teresa was very nice, very welcoming, and warm. They do home-cooked meals. We saw them setting the tables and preparing, because it was getting ready to be dinner time. Their outdoor area was beautiful, with a lot of lawn. They had a recreational area downstairs on that first level where they do bingo or card games, puzzles, and things like that. It's like a mansion. I mean, there's like seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It's beautiful. The rooms are shared with patients, and I'm not necessarily saying I like that. There is no option for a private room."

"My boyfriend's grandmother will move into Library Terrace Assisted Living. The general feel of the place and the staff felt like a really comfortable community. We met the chef, caregiver, and the activity director. They're very caring. It was very comfortable. We were laughing and joking. We felt that we could ask questions, and nothing was off limits. It was well kept and clean. We looked at two different apartments. It would be a very comfortable place for her. One of the important things that she liked was that there was a library. She's very mobile, but for people who can't get out or maybe don't want to get out, you can order books. So, we liked that. Also, there was a nice outdoor space in the back with a neighborhood back there and families, which was a normal neighborhood. I like the dining room. It felt comfortable. It was a small table. It felt like being at a restaurant versus being in a cafeteria-style environment, and there's a TV room."

"I went to Bickford of Crystal Lake, and I love it. They were amazing. Awesome. If we had unlimited funds, there wouldn't be a question; we'd go there. However, they don't work with Medicaid, so mom would run out of funds pretty quickly. Based on her situation, without a formal assessment, they think she would probably be around $8000 a month, and we would run out of money potentially before she passes. She's 93, but we don't know how long she is going to last, obviously, and we would have to move her again. We don't want to do that. We want to find a place that we can settle in, and when her funds run out, we can work with Medicaid. They covered everything about assisted living and memory care. They explained where assisted living was. It's in the same facility, but it's in a different hallway. Their staff was amazing. I spoke with Lisa and Julie, and I loved them both. They were fabulous. I love that they have a monitor system like a watch that goes on the resident's arm, and it allows them to keep track of where that person is. I love that if they fall, it gives an indication to all their staff ,so that the staff don't have to be physically told. It indicates from this monitor that they wear on their wrist. I also love that most of the residents' doors are open, and the residents seem to know all of the staff very well by name. Likewise, they knew all of the residents by name, and they knew family members by name, too. It's a small facility, and it felt like we were visiting a home. I can't say enough good things about it. We just really, really like it. The outside was lovely and very well-maintained. The inside needed some updating, but it's typical. It's not a new place, but it needs maybe some fresh coat of paint and some carpet cleaning, that kind of stuff."

"It was the place that I liked the most. It felt like you were at a home. It was like you were going into a big house versus going into a facility. It seemed more comfortable and homelike. The staff was nice, friendly, pleasant and enjoying what they were doing. I liked the open setting with the kitchen because they were preparing food in the kitchen, and the people could sit and watch them. I did not try the food, but it smelled good, and the person preparing the food had been doing it for a number of years. "

"I am the POA for my uncle who lives at the Lake in the Hills home. Not only is it beautiful but the care he receives is outstanding. I am at ease knowing they actually care about him.
