It requires no entrance fee. The monthly rate for residential level care in a semi-private room includes dining, daily housekeeping, personal laundry, linens, medication administration and personal care assistance. Private rooms are also available. Cost is determined by the level of care needed. Cave Creek offers planned activities at the facility, as well as, recreational outings, weekly trips to Roanoke for shopping and transportation to appointments. Cave Creek is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services for 55 beds and is approved by the Salem Veterans Administration Residential Care Program. Veterans who qualify for pension based on need, may qualify for aid and attendance pension, enabling them to afford care. Staff will assist with paper work and help you through the application process. We offer three levels of care: residential, assisted, and intensive assisted, so our residents can have as much personal care as needed or required. "Runk & Pratt at Smith Mountain Lake was pretty good. That was one of the better ones. It was a little more expensive, but they would bring my mother's meals to her and they would always take them down to the cafeteria. They always have somebody on-call going around. At the time, they were going on a bus trip out to the lake. The staff was great. Maintenance was good and it was really clean. In the room they showed me that they were going to get ready, they had stripped the walls down and they were going to repaint it. It was all right."

"Carriage Hill Retirement had their own memory care that was separate. The rooms were a nice size, and the showers were in the room. They were able to eat in their memory care unit. I saw their food, and it looked good. The staff who gave the tour was very nice and very professional."

"I went to Cardinal Senior Living. It was very nice, clean, and very quiet. The people seem to be happy. The rooms were very nice. The staff was very helpful and very professional, asking us if we had any questions and wanted to know if we had any more. A lady took us on the tour because the gentleman was busy that day with someone, but she was really great. We could not have asked for a better tour. The facility was very clean. There was no smell or anything."

"We toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Christiansburg. It's a fabulous place. I can't say enough good things about the folks; they were wonderful. They might be overstaffed, but that's a good thing. They've got enough staff to take care of the residents in the community there, but they come with a price. They gave us a wonderful tour. I think my mom will just love all the different things that they have going on. The place was very clean. They were doing some remodelling as well. They really worked hard to try to accommodate us. They offered for us to stay for a meal, but mom was tired. Whatever they had cooking in the kitchen smelled good. They were growing their own spices, and everything was fresh."

"I visited Our Lady of the Valley. The staff was very cordial, showed us around, and told us what they had to offer. They had different kinds of nice apartments, like singles, some with kitchen. I liked it overall."

"Magnolia Ridge assisted living facility, located in Roanoke, Virginia, is one of the smaller assisted living facilities that I have ever visited. According to their website, they only host 34 beds in the entire place. The benefit of having such a small facility is that each and every patient admitted gets much more attention and care than they would be able to at a larger assisted living facility. This truly sets Magnolia Ridge apart as one of the best assisted living facilities that one can hope to find themselves in. Not too long ago, I had a relative who was admitted to the facility. Due to health complications, he was no longer able to care for and maintain himself, so an assisted living facility was one of the last options available. Due to the small size of the facility, he was able to receive the care and attention that he deserved, and up until his passing he was very happy to be staying at such a comfortable, homely place. "

"I have already placed my mother in Hermitage Roanoke, and this place is top notch. They have all kinds of activities; they’ve got a theater room. They’ve got good food and they are well cared for."

"My mom is at South Roanoke Nursing Home. It is a very nice place. It's an older facility, but it is clean. It has a good layout. It is smaller, but they are well-staffed. The staff communicates well with us. We've been there a few times, but we have been pleased because we feel like she's making some strides there. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that a lot of the people there really are enthusiastic about helping the patients, and that's a big deal. My mother loves it. She likes the people there. My mom seems to enjoy the food. She says it's good. Their therapy department has done a really good job with her in figuring out what she needs and they are focusing on that. They do day trips, bingo, they do things outside, and they do church study on Wednesdays where they have a pastor come in and he gives a sermon and then they'd say hymns after that. They have Music Day where they'll play music of that era. They also do some dress-up days for certain things. "

"My husband is currently at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. They've done a very good job with him, and they're doing regular, weekly COVID testing, and they've been very diligent in keeping that out of there. Even though they have a lot of cases now, they've actually done a very good job. Everybody's been fine, everybody's been very professional, and there's good communication with everybody up there. He seems satisfied with the food."

"Brandon Oaks has a great reputation. It is beautiful, but it is out of my price range. They're extremely friendly. I had lunch there and it was great. They have a library. They have everything. They have a pool and a tennis court. You name it, they have it. There's a hospital right down the road, and there's a big shopping center and a restaurant there. You name it, it's there. With regards to upkeep, it's spotless. It's very well maintained."

"I have visited this facility two times per month of a couple of years. I have from one to 3 residents at a time that are hospice patients of mine. I am a hospice social worker and I usually visit patients in their rooms or sometimes in a den-like area that has a table, couches and a tv. The administrator is always open to having a meeting whenever my hospice requests it in order to discuss a resident's situation, to problem solve, discuss safety concerns, etc. there are different levels of care at this facility, depending on how much assistance a person needs,. The facility is willing to keep residents until their death when hospice is involved, as long at the resident's needs are being met. They have activities and a dining room and are willing to bring meals to the room if a resident is not feeling well. They also provide transportation. The staff is mostly friendly, welcoming and helpful and we work together as a team usually. "

"My tour of Woodland Hills Community was very good. It was a very lovely facility because it's quite new, so it's very beautiful. And they have some unique features for their residents that are quite nice. One is that they offer enrichment classes for their residents. The residents can learn about all kinds of things while they're there during these enrichment sessions. They have a beautiful facility. The rooms that they used for respite were lovely. They were like one-bedroom apartments. The kitchens in the entrance area of the room were a little bit cramped, so we weren't quite sure how that would work with a wheelchair or a walker. That was one concern we had about the rooms in that facility. But the dining area was lovely, and the menu looked like gourmet food. The chef was from Italy. We talked with a couple of residents, so that was helpful. Overall, it was a very nice facility, but they required a 30-day respite stay."

"We have known Friendship Manor for years because we've kind of grown up in this community since the 60's. It's a massive facility now all over the valley. The people that we talked to were excellent. They answered all our questions regarding Medicaid, the facility, and services. I can't say anything bad about the staff. The staff interacted with residents. The lady who took us around was very informative. However, the whole facility is basically a hospital floor. Residents are only allowed to have a hospital bed. They cannot bring in any chairs or recliners or anything from their home. They were well taken care of, that was obvious. It was clean, but the actual facility offered nothing as far as homeyness or being welcoming. It literally was a hospital floor that they left exactly the same and put a memory care residence in. The staff who toured us was very accommodating. She worked with our schedule, and she was extremely knowledgeable. She knew what mom would need and what they could offer. She was very helpful with Medicaid, with any of the processes there, and guided us as if we were going to need that to help supplement her being able to pay for this. Honestly, it was $8,400. We were just flabbergasted. It would have been very sad because there was nothing there: no flowers and no garden. They had a 4th-floor balcony as their outdoor area that was completely concrete, nothing inviting or welcoming at all with it. I was just very disappointed with what we saw there. We would never have considered it for her. I felt like the care level was very good though. The staff interacted with the residents. I didn't see anyone sitting alone like what you think of people doing in a nursing home in memory care. You'd kind of think of them being pushed aside. The residents in Friendship were all in various areas where they could be monitored by staff. I don't feel like there was any problem with actual care. I think they were very well taken care of."
