"I toured Prairie Green at Fay's Point. It was nice. It was decent but it was a little crowded at the elevator. It's too many people standing in the elevator too close to each other. It's a decent-looking place. The staff was professional. They have function rooms and a dining area where everybody can go in to eat."

"Charter Senior Living of Hazel Crest was very clean. I do not think that it was as beautiful as the other facility we looked at, but the people were very nice and pleasant. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. They tried to make a difference and I appreciate that. The residents seemed very happy and comfortable The facility was very nice and accommodating. There were things for the residents to do. They did not have a separate unit for memory care, so they tried to merge all the residents together, which is good, to try and keep them active. I just do not think that the cost is appropriate for what I saw there."

"My sister is at Sunrise of Flossmoor. It is extremely clean. There's easy access for family members. There is a nursing staff 24/7, as well as a concierge for security. They have numerous activities and outings. The dining area is more restaurant style, and the residents can more or less choose what they want off of the list of things for that day. They have very nice people. They are friendly and active. The medical staff is very interactive with us, so that if there are issues we know right away. It's just a good facility. They have all kinds of activities. There is exercise, outings to the library, ice cream socials, bands, and all kinds of activities that are brought in. There are crafts, cards, and entertainment. It's very nice. They try to keep the residents active in many ways. They also have a facility mascot, like a dog and a cat, for the residents. The staff is very helpful and very friendly to my sister. They keep me informed so I know what is going on, and that's all good. Whether it's medical or not, I know what's taking place, and I know she's getting the care that she needs. The food is very good, but I think there could be more monitoring as far as what food a resident is ordering, like if they're trying to control their diabetes and so forth there could be monitoring for that, and there could be more staff to serve the dinner and food items in a more timely fashion. I think the rooms are a little bit expensive and there is some marijuana smoke that you can smell sometimes at the facility, which I'm sure is a resident that's doing that. When you're spending $5,000 or more a month or $7,200 for the memory care, which is a separate unit, I don't think you should have to have that, even though it is recreationally legal. I just think there should also be a Medicaid option, and there's not a Medicaid option there."

"My mother was at Sunrise Villa Olympia Fields for four years. She was there from November 2016 to September of 2020. She moved to assisted living for a week. It was expensive. She's quite capable of doing everything, it's just that she has dementia, and it got worse when they locked them down and made them stay in their apartments. It was a lovely facility. They had a lot of activities to keep them going daily. They had a board where they could look and see where they wanted to go and what was available to them. The meals were decent. The residents there were quite friendly. My mother enjoyed the facility because they had two courtyards, one with a garden and one where you can go out and sit or just walk. The difficulty came when she was restricted to her apartment because of Covid and that kinda kicked the dementia up. She was unable to socialize because they couldn't even come out to eat. They would bring in the meals, and she was also complaining about the meals. My mother was in a studio apartment on the main level, but that apartment got flooded twice. I told them that she got to get off this floor until they all could correct what the problem was, so they moved her to the third floor. She said she had a nicer view on the third floor because she was up high and she could see more. There were no problems until the Covid. Her studio had one main room with a kitchen and a bath and that's what she needed. They had studios, 1-bedrooms, and 2-bedrooms. They had an exercise room, a hair salon, a library, a little general store, and workshops for guys who like to work with their hands and build stuff. They had a lot of amenities. They had villas, which were like little townhouses with 2-car garage. A lot of the people there had their pets. They take pets up to a certain weight limit in the apartments and then if it's larger than 30 pounds, they have to get a villa. They had a very accommodating and friendly atmosphere. The staff members were very patient when my mother started having her problem. They had a doctor on-staff, a doctor who comes in many days a week, and a dentist who comes in many days a week. They had a pretty decent variety of food until Covid."

"I have toured Tinley Court for my dad and it was wonderful. It's older but very clean and very quaint, and the rooms were beautiful and also very clean. The person who gave me the tour, Jana, was wonderful and very helpful. Their dining area looked really good. When I got there, they were doing exercises as a group in the chairs, and it just seemed like a good community for the seniors."

"My father moved into the Victory Centre of Roseland last November. The location was convenient, it was near my home, and it was ten to fifteen minutes away. When I went there it seemed to be a fairly decent place. They give him his meals and things of that nature. He hasn't been there long. Covid has a lot to do with things that happen. The staff has been very accommodating of your needs. I think they're good. He has plenty to eat and hasn't complained at all. They have a gym, salon, and a beautiful backyard. Those that want to smoke can go out and smoke. They've got a little workout area for your grandchildren. If you want to bring the little ones they can play. So I think that's nice. They got birds, they got a piano, and they played music. So that's pretty good. I think they do a good job under the circumstances."

They had a place for therapy, and we saw people coming back from going out for breakfast. The dining area was very pleasant, and supposedly they have a chef."

"The Bickford of Tinley Park was very nice. It was pretty much single rooms, which were nice. It's new, clean, and the rooms were laid out well. The staff was very knowledgeable. They have a personal chef running the kitchen, and it looks like they have plenty of activities there, but then the cost was higher."

"Hi, My brother and I brought my Mom to Emeritus for a 2 week 'Trial' period. We were greeted and treated wonderfully. My moms room was ready and waiting. We were able to have lunch with her before we left her. The lunch was delicious and it was served by a very friendly staff. After lunch we were taken to her room and within 10 minutes or so, a nurse and assistant came by to discuss her Meds and take vitals. They were great! We were very comfortable leaving her here. Thank you, Sincerely, Bev Zaleski "

"The rooms at Victory Centre of South Chicago were very nice, clean, and had a nice view. The heat was ample. They had a ping-pong table, a pool table, games, television, and stretching exercises. The food was ample and scheduled, but you can always have soup or something else, and that was readily available for eight to 10 hours. The staff was excellent in explaining everything."

"I've had my dad for a short stay at Evergreen Senior Living - Orland Park. We were very happy with it, my dad has no complaints. It's a newer facility, around five years old, so it was new and everything's updated. The people seemed to be loving and caring and everything seemed to be in order. The staff seemed to be very caring, and there was a nurse who made sure that my dad takes his medication. They seemed to be very thorough and it was a beautiful facility. During the few times I was there to visit my dad, they have groups of people doing activities. They had a TV in a common room where they were singing along to songs and doing different things for memory care. They're working with the people there, so they weren't just sitting in a chair doing nothing. They weren't any more expensive compared to anyone else, they were the average price. They have a beauty salon available on the premises and they have an outdoor terrace that they can go out on."

"I toured Marian Village. They were a little less expensive, but the place itself just seemed so vibrant, alive, energetic, and bright. The place seemed very new and very updated. When you walked in, you were welcomed by the person at the front desk. The price, I think we could handle. The tough part is they require an entrance fee of $90,000. I have noticed reviews that are not too high, but when I did the tour, they had like a little bistro, and some residents were having omelets and things like that, and the food smelled amazing. They have a lot of events. They had a nice exercise room. They had laundry on each floor and seemed to have more dining areas. They give 400 points per month, and each point is equal to a dollar. You can use those points in the cafeteria or the dining area, and they don't carry over to the next month. They kind of give you an allotment, and then if you go over that, you start to pay. Mary Beth gave me the tour. She knew all the residents. She's very good and very thorough. Everything was so clean. There wasn't a spot on the carpeting. There wasn't a whole lot of carpeting. There was more of the vinyl plank flooring type of things. The dining room was set for dinner, and they had cloth napkins, glasses, and silverware. Everything seemed to be clean. Throughout the whole tour inside the rooms, in the laundry rooms, or the dining area, there was no stale odor or anything like that as you toured it. It was very clean, not like bleach clean or anything like that. It was just a fresh, clean environment."

"We liked the physical structure of Franciscan Village. We liked the layout of the exterior, the community where it's located, and the setting. It's in a nice wooded area that's pleasant and a little out of the way. The layouts of the independent living cabins/housing units were nice and spread out a little bit. They've got a common area, a chapel, and a bistro place. It was all very nice. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable."

"We liked the vibe of Woodlands at The British Home - it was friendly and casual, yet the business of taking care of those who needed it was being attended to. The grounds were spacious and well tended. We were in Chicago checking out assisted living residences and decided to check out some of the suburban areas, since they are so easy to access from the city. There were plenty of staff to take care of basic needs and cleaning. All of the areas were pleasant to be in and we could see that the residents thought so, too. The activities ranged from board games, to discussions, private reading and watching film and TV - some people were also using computers. The staff is well-versed at taking care of a variety of types of people, from those who are not ambulatory - to people who have memory issues. Our aunt is in the early stages of dementia - it comes and goes - so she needs to live in a place that can handle this. The indoor areas were all clean and bright. There is plenty of sunlight so that they do not need to use lighting when it is sunny outside. This is true for many of the dwelling spaces, as well. Our aunt likes to make artwork, so the lighting is really appreciated. The activities they plan regularly include everything from visiting local restaurant favorites, the public library and movies - to day trips to nearby Chicago. They have planned exercise classes - but also offer residents to work out any time they wish. We liked that they encourage exercise - a people with early dementia can be forgetful. The dining room was quite nice, with plenty of space. The food we saw looked and smelled delicious. The menus all had healthy food options for all kinds of diets. Healthy snacks are offered all day and into the evening, as well as whenever residents request them. The private areas were nicely decorated and personalized for the residents and it was clear that they enjoyed their surroundings a great deal. We are glad we took the time to look at this facility and it is in the running as one of the better ones we visited so far. "

"I toured American House Oak Park. Everything was fine except for the fact that they charge you for parking. I don't understand why there would be a fee because you're paying a steep amount to live there, and then they want to charge you $125 to park. The place was fantastic. It was beautiful. Just gorgeous. The staff showed us more than one location and gave us ideas. He showed us a room that was already furnished and an unfurnished room. I love the way everything is highlighted to where you know where you are at all times. It's clean and it's only a year old. It's half full, which is what I like due to the fact that you could get in there right now and meet the people and be more of the community before they're full. Jeremy was very pleasant to interview. Even the people as we walked through, waved at us and said hello. It was kind of comforting to have Mom and Dad see that. It was a fantastic tour. The place was simply gorgeous. I enjoyed it."

"A wonderful concept of providing care. Instead of being an institutional environment, it is a comfortable single-family home that has been designed for this purpose. My grandmother loved the fact that she lived in a single family home, with three other residents, while getting all the help that she needed. I would recommend Golden Age to anyone who is looking for a place that offers assisted living. Like they claim...at Golden Age you don't live in a home, you live at home."
