READ MOREThe dementia-friendly community of Scottsdale offers a range of Alzheimer’s-informed programs and services for residents, providing a supportive environment for those living with this disease. This city has a large senior community that accounts for nearly a quarter of its 240,000 residents, and statistically, one in nine of these individuals has Alzheimer’s. Even so, deaths related to this condition are trending downward. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that while the total death rate in the region increased by almost 34% between 2016 and 2020, Alzheimer’s-related deaths went up by less than 9%.
Currently, there’s no cure for Alzheimer’s, but many seniors enjoy an improved quality of life through residential dementia care. Memory care facilities are staffed with trained caregivers who provide one-on-one care and companionship, and they have dementia-friendly recreational programs that help residents maintain motor skills and remain engaged.
This guide highlights the benefits of obtaining memory care in Scottsdale and gives an overview of some resources that help seniors and families find services and care.
