READ MORESun City is northwest of Phoenix and part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, but the city’s claim to fame lies in being America’s oldest active retirement community. Out of 39,931 residents, 86% are seniors 60 and older, making Sun City indeed a dedicated retirement community. The Del Webb Development Company completed the first model homes in Sun City, proposing a society as a whole for active adults, and, after more than 50 years, the city is still a Mecca for seniors. In fact, residents don’t have to leave the city limits to find services, including excellent health care.
Sun City also offers assisted living options for those who can no longer remain in their homes. Assisted living communities provide 24/7 staff to help with daily living needs, housekeeping, medication management and transportation. Seniors have choices through assisted living when they don’t need the 24/7 medical care of a nursing home. The average monthly cost of assisted living is $3,975, only a $25 difference from the Arizona average of $4,000
If you’re considering retiring in Sun City, this guide provides much more information about assisted living, average costs for long-term care and the benefits and drawbacks of living in this retirement haven. A list of free resources for seniors is included.
