Bergen County, which is located near the New York area and has comparable senior care costs, is a relatively expensive place to live compared to the typical U.S. county. However, it’s about 10% lower than the statewide average of $6,650.
While Bergen County is among the costlier regions in the nation for assisted living, it’s moderately priced compared to the rest of New Jersey, where the median rate for this level of care is $6,650. The Trenton area, which is approximately 75 miles south of Bergen County’s center, is the most expensive region in New Jersey, with monthly assisted living fees coming in at $7,478. The Medicaid Managed Long-Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) is the state’s Medicaid waiver that offers support with assisted living costs to low-budget seniors who qualify. There are no state-funded programs that provide aid for assisted living at this time.
