"My husband is a retired army veteran who requires round the clock care and watching. We were referred to homeinstead through the VA and have been with them for about 2 years now. I love the staff, the thorough communication and the care from our care giver mrs.gee (Geneva). She goes above and beyond with assistance Melvin. It helps me to be able to take a break. Mrs.Gee is always a joy, she has helped his mental to be more at ease in the afternoon, she has helped motivate him in so many ways and Melvin has grown to love her more and more. There was never a time when we felt bad about having her as a caregiver. I am very thankful for this company overall at the level of professionalism and festive energy they bring. Thank you to everyone !"

"Communication with the agency is wonderful. They provided a care giver at pretty much the very last minute. Ms Judy was here right on time and was a good fit for my husband and his needs. They got along great. She took care of all his needs that she was asked to do. Joe enjoyed the time he spent with her. Next time we will request her as needed. She even got along with our dog and got her treats when Joe told her where they were. "

"I am using Senior Helpers of West Houston for my friend. They offer all kinds of all-around home services in terms of preparing meals, cleaning the house, cleaning the patient, and keeping her clean, healthy, and well-fed. They have run a couple of errands for us and are very efficient. They're very prompt in their arrival and departure times. I don't have any complaints at all. People are caring and friendly, with no complaints. They come seven days a week, four hours a day on a split shift, two in the morning, and two in the early afternoon. They billed as they said they would, and there was no problem with that at all."

"I have Griswold Home Care of West Houston for my wife. It's been fine. I have them coming from 8:00 to 5:00, six days a week. Sunday, I take care of her myself. They come in, and if I haven't fed her breakfast, they will feed her breakfast. I packaged all her medications for the morning, noon and night, and they will help her get them and take the medications. They feed her lunch, they bathe her, and they dress her. If she doesn't demand a lot of attention, they'll do things like washing dishes or doing the laundry. She sits and watches TV quite a bit, so Buki, the girl we have regularly, just busies herself. I get home and things are cleaned up, so I've been very pleased. Buki was in the process of trying to move and had to miss some time and they sent their main caregiver, a young lady named Yuri came and filled in, and she was so good. Just a real pleasure. I can see why she's their main caregiver; she is in charge of all of them. So I've had Yuri and I've had Buki. Her real name is Bukola, but she goes by Buki. The guy that I first dealt with, he's one of the partners, and he's called me several times to see how satisfied I am, so I couldn't ask for any better treatment. They're very interested in what we get out of what we need, and I couldn't be more pleased with them. I'm satisfied with them. The communications have been wonderful with Buki, with one of the partners, and Yuri when she was involved. They've all been great. One day they had a traffic jam, and they called me and told me about it, so I stayed home until the caregiver got her, but all three of them called me to tell me that we were going to be a little late."

"I hired Always Best Care of Fort Bend because they're the ones close to me. They're the ones who responded to me quickly, and they have a good offer. Their work is very good, so my wife is also happy with them. The caregivers are supposed to be hands on. My wife's interactions with them are very, very good. That is what I want from the person who takes care of my wife. They do light housekeeping and companionship. They're helping her on the therapy side with a little bit of exercise. They basically assist her on normal stuff like urination, any body disposal, and showers. The billing is direct to my credit card, so there's no letter to be sent out; it's automatic."

"My interactions with the caregivers that I have had have been wonderful. They are quick to understand and remember my needs and move from one task to another without reminders. They are both efficient and reliable and I'm so happy to avail myself of this service. I care for my husband who had a stroke and my only wish is that I started this service sooner! The agency itself has been understanding and very responsive to my needs!"

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Houston’s seniors can access numerous programs aimed at helping them age safely and comfortably within their own homes. The following list includes samples of what’s available in Harris County and Texas. They can help seniors struggling with some daily tasks get fresh meals daily, others facing excessive energy costs reduce their bills and those who own their homes benefit from some tax exemptions.

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
