I am/was a resident of this facility
I spent a few days at this facility for rehab/PT after a recent hospital stay. I was never formally checked in by a staff member or given any type of orientation/greeting- just put in a room. Lucky to get a pitcher of water. Nurses were obviously overworked and not the least bit friendly. The food was absolutely disgusting and the room was not that clean. Luckily, I was fairly self sufficient. I would not have stayed another day regardless- I can't imagine being bed ridden in that facility. I would strongly suggest you consider other facilities/providers before GHC/Athena Healthcare- it may be located in a very nice town but don't be fooled- it is a sad excuse for modern, professional health care.
Frustrated with parent's care March 26, 2017

Medications are never on time. 3 days in a row missed medications for my mother in Long term care wing. Supposed to have no meds during meals because she throws them up, but IF she gets them, it's always then, with the expected results. Some days no meds entire shift. Extremelyy inconsistent medication timing. Very frustrated with this place , If you have someplace else to place your parent, do it. Cleanliness isn't everything. Need more CNA's and LPN's on staff. Ones they have don't have the time to do more for your loved one than the bare minimum, and it's not their fault. For prrofit, and it shows. .Business always bought and sold quickly for profit. Notice other listings on internet with different owners? Names barely up on front board and they're already changing them. Ask them, " How many owners have there been in these last 5 years?" This place is excellent for short term rehab only. I can recommend them for that only at this time. Will change review for long term parent care if it improves.

I visited this facility
I recently stayed here for 7 days and would like to share my experience. The facility is very clean and the care is Exceptional. The nurses are top notch and the assistants are very attentive to your every need. The physical therapy personnel are some of the best in the area and got me on my feet very quickly. They are understanding of your pain and transition your movement with great care and professionalism. The food is much better than can be expected and they do try to make every effort to satisfy your tastes. Keep in mind they are cooking for a lot of folks who are on a restricted diet, but they are more than willing to work with you on this. When you need something and "Hit the Button" the assistants are there very quickly and relay any info to the nurse promptly or get you anything you may need. The rooms are very comfortable but keep in mind there are no private rooms so you must be able to share a room. That being said you should ensure that you are able to co-habitat with your new roommate, they will move you if you are having issues but understand that they only have so much room and any changes should be made quickly. I would go back there myself or "Put" a loved one in here knowing that they are going to be WELL taken care of. I give this a GO TO PLACE for any after surgery issues you may have. Jeff Murray. I am a friend or relative of a resident
Glastonbury Health Care Center was one of the smaller nursing homes with short-term rehab, which my mother had started out in and then she ended up in the long-term part of the facility. The staff was wonderful, very nice there, and answered questions readily. They were very sympathetic and understood what was going on. They treated her very well, and we were very happy with the care that she received. She shared a room with another woman initially. The room was on the small side, and she wasn't on the window side, so that was hard for her, but we could put her in the wheelchair and wheel her down into the lounge room. They had a sunroom, which was a really nice part of the facility. The food was very typical hospital food. She didn't eat all that much when she was in the long-term part of it. She liked the desserts mostly. She was on a soft food diet, so everything was chopped very finely. She did tell me that some of the food was good. She received occupational therapy and physical therapy every day, and they were very good. The recreation director came in and asked me a lot of questions. She was very nice and very thorough about patients' likes and dislikes and former jobs and activities, trying to find out what they were like.
