I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

It’s nice that the MATHEWS family confided in Menlo VA of Edison, NJ my father (Paul) was here for about a year until Easter 4/12/20 when we got a call that the va was moving him to JFK then to hospice He died 4/14/20! We didn’t even know he was even sick. Very disappointed with VA. Very unpatriotic place. My father gave up 4yrs in army then dies because of the VA. It’s nice today is 4/18/20 the VA still won’t return any calls to the family. I guess a attorney is in line so I can get my fathers belongings at least. I would NEVER recommend the VA, The worst too is that he died alone no family member by his side. It’s horrible!!!

THIS FACILTIY HAS GONE THROUGH DRASTIC NEGATIVE CHANGES IN THE LAST 5+ YEARS. LACK OF SUPPORT FROM THE STATE AND ADMINISTRATION HAS CAUSED LACK OF STAFFING WHICK LEADS TO POOR PATIENT CARE. CALL BELLS GO UNANSWERED, SUPPORT DOCTORS ARE LIMITED IN THE CARE THEY CAN GIVE TO OUR BELOVED VETERANS ,AND THE SUPPORT THE STAFF NEEDS. THE STATE IN NJ SHOULD HAVE BEEN/ BE INVESTIGATING THIS FACILITY 24/7. THESE VETERANS GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR ALL OF US WITH NO PROMISE THEY WOULD COME HOME ALIVE, WE IN TURN ARE RESPONSIBLE TO TREAT THEM WITH UTMOST RESPECT AND TOP NOTCH CARE. THE STAFFING IS ANEMIC AT BEST. FACILITY NEEDS INVESTIGATING 24/7. YOU CANNOT RELY ON VULNERABLE PATIENTS AND FAMILIES FOR YOUR INFORMATION.

My father went to Menlo Park in November of 2018. The facility is amazing. There are so many activities for the residents. Every time we visit, he looks very well taken care of. One of the staff members became good friends with him and they always talk about the old time movie. We are very comfortable knowing he is in good hands.

The facility has undergone a negative change within the last 5months. The staff is excellent but the new leadership has cut staffing, staff working double shifts, no staff member routinely covers the nurses desk hence call bells go unanswered and or delayed, physical therapy is limited, promised in house physicians are limited in time to care for our veterans. All of the above was promised to our veterans and their families when they made the decision to enter this facility. It was never disclosed to anyone that this change was a possibility. PLEASE INVESIGATE, OUR VETERANS ARE DEPENDING ON YOU

There are a few (but too few) good caregivers in the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Menlo Park. The food is usually acceptable. Skilled nursing and Doctor care is barely satisfactory. Staff is not adequate for the number of residents. If your senior family member is here you must plan to be here every day to make sure they are being cared for. Even then no guarantees can be promised. My father entered here April 25, 2017 and died July 30, 2017. He lasted three torturous months in their 'tender, loving, care'. This place needs to be investigated. It is a disgrace to our Veterans.

This facility is stellar...my Dad is a resident there. Every day there is fantastic activities. Rooms are immaculate, staff is helpful, rehab department is top-notch. There is a cafe, library, gift shop, chapel (Mass every week), bank in the main lobby. Residents can go outside, play bingo a few times a week, they are taken shopping, to movies and to restaurants. Entertainment is brought in, different service organizations visit, holidays are celebrated...jukebox is always playing great music...etc., etc., etc.!!!

This place is awful. They over medicated my father and left him strapped to a wheelchair drooling . The Veterans affair department should investigate this horrific establishment .

The staff here is absolutely unbelievable, and not in a good way. Some of the rudest and most inconsiderate people that I have ever encountered in my entire life. I guess the word to describe the what would appear to be ever so lightly trained medical staff would be misearable. These people are absolutely miserable. Not a smile in the place, or an American for that matter. I was almost run over in the entrance by a scrub wearing individual who pretty much knocked me out of the way to get to what appears to be a time clock mounted on the front wall by the entrance. She not only blocked in an ambulance with her car in the front entrance, but there were several other employees there who did the same thing in what appears to be a ritual for this staff because I have witness it everytime I have visited. They fly into the parking lot at about 80 m.p.h. park right in the main driveway in front of the building and block the driveway so that family members, residents, and ambulance drivers can't pick up or drop off, they run for the inside, clock in,(I guess this is so it looks like they are actually in the facility working) then they run out and jump in their cars and pull away. Meanwhile everyone else has to wait for them. Don't bother asking them for help either bringing anyone in. You will either be ignored or told that it is not their job, or they will just give you a dirty look and a snide remark. This is everyday there. Evertime I've been there. Upon arriving, and upon leaving. Not to mention it appears that the staff there feels that they don't need to be handicapped to park in the handicapped spots reserved in the parking lot or the front of the building. The facility is o.k. I guess, but the staff really needs a major improvement. I don't know what the hiring practices are but the State should probably investigate at this point because it appears that they are only hiring Haitians, or Indians. The people who work there really hate their jobs and it is painfully apparent. From the residents that I have talked to, they are not happy with the staff at all who are unresponsive and uncaring and beligerant. While I was there I witnessed a nurse that had to call a maintenance profesional simply so that something could be plugged in. To say that the staff appears helpless and uninformed is an understatement. If I could give half a star I would.

I visited this facility

Very clean and modern. When I spoke to residents most seemed polite and seemed to enjoy their time their. Only gripe I heard was the food but I guess that is to be expected at any nursing home or institution of that size. They had lots of recreational activities, boardgames, a Nintendo wii, and regularly scheduled bingo. The staff was friendly and they have a security person who buzzes in every visitor so the facility was secure. You must be a veteran or a spouse of one to get in however. Ample parking for visitors and many common areas in each wing and in the center of the complex. I did see a fair amount of residents in wheelchairs off to the side but I chalked it up to the logistics of these types of facilities none seemed neglected or left for too long. Overall nice place and I would recommend people check it out.
