A fellow caregiver asked...

Can you tell me the symptoms of carpel tunnel in the hand and fingers? Would it result in numbness and tingling in the night? Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated. Sandra

Carpal tunnel causes numbness and tingling in the hands and fingers. People often notice these symptoms at night, as many people sleep with their hands and wrists bent into themselves, which will cause the symtoms to appear. In fact, testing for the presence of carpal tunnel is done by making someone bend their wrist at a 90 degree angle (flexing your wrist in towards your arm, fingers straight), and then timing when the tingling sensations start to appear in the hands. Many times a simple wrist splint worn at night will keep the wrists straight, which will help decrease the tingling symptoms.
