I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

If you have the sad misfortune to have a family member be committed to this facility, please remove them as fast as you can. This facility is not maintained for cleanliness, they leave residents soiled and your items will stand a good chance of disappearing. I was there 6 to 7 days a week while my family member was a resident. I witnessed roaches on the wall, urine on the floor my loved one left soiled on a wet bed for long periods of time. I would arrive and oftentimes find them laying across their bed mattress with their head hanging down on one side and feet and legs on the other. I would watch the CNA's get water from an igloo cooler that had been sitting while guests and residents would help themselves to ice as needed. But then the CNA would take a pitcher dip it in cooler and gather water directly out of cooler that everyone had been getting ice from using the scooper or not and then serve it directly to the residents. This cannot be sanitary. During all of this the Facility Director was unresponsive and more than not provide incorrect answers to our questions. One of many annoying issues is when you visit on the weekends there is no receptionist. Answering the phones and doors are left to the CNA's. Most times they will not answer the call as you hear them pick up the line and then hang up the telephone receiver leaving you waiting outside. Finally, the lead CNA's, the ones you see most often are rude and aggressive when tending to resident. I implore you to remove your loved one ASAP and save yourself from the trauma of watching a loved one neglected.

My friend was at the facility for 20 days getting rehab for a hip replacement. When I visited I found her room to be inviting, clean and she had me bring in some of her knickknacks to make it more home like for her. She was up walking the same day she arrived with a walker with help and recovered fairly quickly . The therapy staff were great, as was the nursing staff, Max the RN was fantastic, so was JJ the CNA. She is a picky eater but gained a few pounds during her rehab. All in all a mater of fact experience with a great outcome.

I visited this facility

We saw Sarasota Health And Rehabilitation. It was clean, and it had no smells. The people there seemed very happy. I was disappointed in the lack of pictures on the wall; it seemed very sterile. When I commented on that, they said, 'Well, it is a skilled nursing facility, so we still have to maintain that.' There weren't personal things in the rooms and no pictures on the walls. I just found it to be somewhat cold. The staff seemed extremely friendly, and they knew the patients' names and made a comment to them as they were passing by them. They were very considerate of the patients. I did not see a list of meals on the walls. But they have vending machines and the people could keep an account at the front desk, so if they wanted something more than what was being provided that day, they could get their own snacks. There was an outdoor area that was set up for them. But I didn't see any list for meals, and I didn't see any roster for activities.

I was in Sarasota Health & Rehabilitation Center. It was wonderful. It was nice, top-notch, for what they have to go through. This was in the middle of coronavirus. So, for what they had to work with, it was excellent. The staff was caring, if you ever needed anything, medication was right there, you didn't have to worry about running out of those things. The food was good, the quality of the room was good. We were locked down there. I smoke so there were certain times of the day that we could go out and have a cigarette or two, but other than that, we were in our room. You hit your call button and they came. So the interaction was great.

I would have appreciated if someone would have told me that this facility was much more of a nursing home then a rehab facility. It was the worse place I’ve been in years and would say if you wasn’t expecting much then this would be the place to stay but after 24 hours I knew to get out of there . If you want a nice place to stay don’t come here . My sister said she wouldn’t put her stray dog here and I agree 100%. The rooms are very with beds so small I believe I was in a child’s bed because my feet were touching footboard and I was cramped up in here the whole time . The food was terrible,

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm in Sarasota Health & Rehabilitation for rehab. I've been here 3-1/2 months, and I just got to go, it's just crazy here. About 3-1/2 weeks ago I took a bath, I landed on my stub, the mat made me trip and fall, 'cause it wasn't glued down properly. I had a CT scan done on it, and an x-ray done on it, they came up negative. I talked to another doctor who is a surgeon of mine, and he said they should have done a CT scan, they never did a CT scan on me. A week and a half ago, I caught a guy going through my personal belongings, he jumped me, punched me in the side of the head two times in the head, real hard. It's been a bad experience since I've been here. I walked on a walker yesterday for the first time, so I'm doing pretty well as far as the use of my walker and getting used to this. They have activities for the mentally distraught. Probably 90% of the people in here are because of mental issues, they're screaming all night long, yelling, and it's insane. Sometimes you get a good meal, sometimes you don't. I haven't had a hot breakfast here, probably twice, in the last three months. Sometimes the dinners are pretty darn good. The night before last, the dinner I had was one slice of deli ham on top of a piece of bread with half a piece of cheese, and southern potato chips. They have no activities for people like me that's okay and stable, just trying to learn how to walk. The nurses here have been above and beyond to me. I've got two on the staff that I've taken a real liking to, and in fact I wanna keep in touch with them when I leave here. They have a lady coming and cut the ladies hair, they don't have a library, they've got a reading room, and there's 2 books in there. They don't have much, they've got a little area where you could sit outside, but the rest of the time, you're stuck in your room with two people, and a bathroom you got to use with four people. The bathroom is tiny, and half the time people have to go behind the people that are messed, and clean up behind 'em all the time. It's tough. The building itself, it's clean, they clean the floors every day, they polish the floors, and they keep it pretty clean.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband has been at Sarasota Health and Rehab Center for a month and a half now. The main reason that I moved him there is because they supply a single room for him. All other facilities that I was looking at, all the prices are high but they always have two people in a room. The staff there seems to be very helpful. The nurses that work in shifts, they seem to do a really good job. My husband is very difficult to take care of, but it seems to me he is settling in. Also I spoke to the dietitian there and she puts the order to give more vegetables to my husband and I was glad to see that. With regards to food though, they could have a little bit better food because it is very hospital-like. Also I think they are overstaffed. There are so many people that do the same job. My husband's room is a small room. They provided a large bed and a large wheelchair for him. However, the price is pretty steep. The facility's main halls, their rooms and the dining room have a hardwood floor. All their doors are all wide doors so it is easy to get in with the wheelchair. I think these are important in these facilities because there are so many people that are in wheelchairs or in walkers.

After my father was discharged from the hospital, they took him to Sarasota Health and Rehabilitation Center. The place was alright. The rooms and staff were fine.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The facility was well amintained and kept clean and relatively odor free. The assistants and aides were uniformly kind, gentle and caring. The rehab personnel (my experience was related to a broken leg and rehab from surgery) were firm and unstinting in the dedication to getting the patients to perform the necessary activities to recover from their illness or surgery. The progress of the patients was monitored on a daily basis and in the event a patient failed to attend a rehab class as scheduled, within a very short period of time someone was sent to investigate the reason and the issue was resolved to the satisfaction of the attending physician. My only area of complaint and disagreement revolved around the food.I am a type II diabetic. My personal regimen consisted of a single pill taken twice dailey and strict dietary control. However, the food presented consisted of approximately 35% carbohydrates (as was required by state law I was told). This caused my blood sugar levels to be elevated despite my medication and as a result, I was given insulin injections on an as needed basis to control my blood sugar. As a result, I had friends and family bring food and snacks for me. The facility had a storage area and a refrigerator for this purpose with controlled acces.Overall I was satisfied with my several minth stay at this facility and would recommend it to others with the qualification that if there are special dietary issues that you must have friends and family standing by to assist.
