I am a friend or relative of a resident
Both of my great-grandparents were residents at Cedar Haven. The staff were mixed; some seemed to genuinely care about the residents, and made an effort to treat them with respect and make their lives better. The rest seemed only concerned with doing the minimum amount necessary and no more. This was especially apparent with feeding - if we weren't there to help, the food would often simply be placed by the bed, despite both of them needing assistance with eating. As well, the quality of medical care was distinctly sub par and hesitant - delays in treatment that exacerbated the underlying condition were common.

I visited this facility
I visited Cedar Haven, a nursing home in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, several times to see older relatives. I have been at several facilities and this one is a lot better than most. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and will go out of their way to assist the patients with the things they need. From the nurses to the therapeutic staff, everyone is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that the patients are comfortable and well cared for. I observed a nurse trying to leave for the day stop and spend a half hour talking with a patient with dementia who was upset because she couldn't find her baby. In my experience very few facilities have staff that will take the time to do that, and not push it off on someone else. Cedar Haven houses patients for long-term care, short term care and they also have a wing for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. The facility and grounds are clean and well cared for. There is not that strong smell that is often associated with nursing homes. There is always something taking place to keep the patients entertained from arts and crafts to T.V. time to old movies. Overall it is a good facility for a loved one to be in.
