I am/was a resident of this facility

If you're looking for skilled nursing care for someone you love...do not go here! My mother was there for 2 days and I had to get her out. They didn't have her medications - and she missed 3 doses. The night we arrived we were pointed to her room where we waited for someone to come and take care of her...or at least tell us what to expect...no one came to the room for 4 hours. And then they didn't do any nursing - skilled or otherwise. The food was ice cold for every meal. I couldn't get my mother out of there fast enough!

Wesleyan Village was very clean and very organized. The staff that you deal with were very friendly. We looked at a one-bedroom and they were spacious. Phone and electricity are provided, as well as cleaning twice a week or once every two weeks. Their menu looked quite impressive. It was just a nice environment.

If you are thinking about putting your loved one in the nursing facility, think twice! Our mother did not receive the best of care on the fourth floor, lack of care, fell and broke her hip, bed soars, etc., and we had to have her moved. The lack of communication rates a (0) out of 10. Not only do they not communicate to you but they do less within the facility shifts and departments. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

My mother moved into Wesleyan Village memory care. They're certainly giving us everything that we had asked for. It's rather pricey, but eventually, Medicaid will kick in and start paying. We love the staff. Her room is quite nice. The food seems to be good. I've eaten there a few times before. They try to keep them busy. They don't let them eat in their rooms. You have to go to the dining room to eat, and I like that part. She has a nice-sized room. She has a bed, a couch, a recliner, and a dresser. There's enough room for all of that. There's a manicurist that comes and gives the women manicures. They read the newspaper to them and they play games and they do arts and crafts a couple of times a week. They do chair exercises and play music. They have concerts at the facility. The outdoor spaces are nice and there are plantings and benches. In memory care, you're very limited. You have to have somebody take you to those places. Maintenance and upkeep are fine. So far, so good. It is a lot of money, but it gives us peace of mind that she's safe.

Wesleyan Village was a big place, but it was a really nice facility. It looks like a big hotel. I only met one person, and she was also very nice and thorough. It was very clean and well kept. They have a library and a beauty salon. They also accept a Medicare waiver after you spend down your money.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your kind words! We relate Wesleyan Village to almost a college campus. Big enough so it has everything you need, but small enough to get comfortable and focus on the things that are important to you. We appreciate you taking the time for the review!

My mom has moved into Wesleyan Village. It's really big and it has a lot of places that people can go to. They have a little store, a library, and a salon. It is just really nice and the people are super nice, too. Everybody that I've met so far is really nice and I like them. Her room is just the right size and she has it all to herself. There are three different dining areas, which all look really nice. They can do crafts and bingo. They have an indoor pool, a library, and a church. A pastor stays there so they can have services without leaving the facility. I would definitely go there if I needed to. They just opened up visitations on the 8th, so I've only gotten to visit her one time, but I didn't visit her in her room. There is a separate area in the building that they use for visits.

Both my parents were residents at Beacon House which is WV memory care unit. Most of the actual “hands on” caregivers were excellent. The food was pretty good - no complaints about that from my parents. The huge problem is communication from administration. They NEVER picked up their phones and would answer voicemails 4-5 days later, if at all. My mother was placed in hospice. We were supposed to be allowed extra visits because of this. However, we rarely got someone on the phone to schedule these visits. Near the end of my mother’s life, she received three sets of visitors on one day. They hadn’t called to make appointments since no one would answer the phone anyway. Because of these visits the director of nursing called me at work to chastise me about the amount of visitors my mother was receiving. I agreed to cancel my scheduled visit with my mom later that day to appease her anger. Her final words to me were, “this is not a life or death situation”. My mother died at 5:30 am the next morning. NOT OK! Trust me, when you are touring the facility or calling to get information for placing your loved one in this facility, they will bend over backwards to accommodate you and answer all your questions. Once your loved one is placed in their care, good luck getting someone in administration to pick up the phone

The last few months care has really gone down hill for my family member who has lived in dementia care here for many years. Administrators hide from family members and don't want to be contacted. And when you do speak with them, manipulation of family members is job 1. Veteran floor nurses are being replaced by young inexperienced nurses just out of school. And they must work multiple floors. Dementia care requires stability and consistency for the patients but aides are floated around and never get to know patients. its always chaotic because they are short staffed be design. As soon as my family member converted from private pay to Medicaid, care went down, and they actually tried to manipulate us to move them out. Rooms were nice with private pay, Medicaid rooms are dumps. Billing department is a mess after they fired their only experienced person a few months ago. Ironically now they never bill for my family members 'patient liability' portion. So they don't even realize they are short billing us by thousands of dollars! (tried to fix this but their billing staff is too incompetent to understand.) Incompetence does seem to be rampant here, starting with administrators and filtering down through all the staff. Seems like the few competent staff are getting fed up and leaving. Truly wish I could move my family member but now being on Medicaid we are stuck. All the really good nursing homes having waiting lists to get in, the bad ones have plenty of spaces. Don't want to trade this bad situation for another.

Staff came and went a lot.

Hello, Pete. Thank you for taking the time to leave us your honest feedback. It is true that we, like other businesses, do occasionally go through recruitment phases. Currently, the staffing has stabilized and our retention rate is at an appropriate level. Have a good day!

My mother loved living at the village. She had many friends, participated in various activities and enjoyed the staff and dining. My observations are that the Village lacks the funds to fix and/or maintain certain things on the premises and the kitchen experiences being short staffed. Aside from those 2 things, the Village managed her care very well.

Provider Response

Thank you for your five-star review! We are very happy that your mother enjoyed living at Wesleyan Village, and we sincerely appreciate that you took the time to share your thoughts about our community. In maintaining our beautiful historic campus, the physical plant needs are addressed on a rotational repair basis. In response to your concern regarding kitchen staffing levels: We, like other businesses, do occasionally go through recruitment phases, especially when changes occur to students' school schedules. I would be glad to have you as my guest for lunch or dinner at Wesleyan Village, if you'd like to have an opportunity to experience firsthand our level of Dining & Hospitality service. Again, thank you for your positive review and comments. Hearing from our residents' family members is beneficial to us. Wesleyan Village is an older facility, which I didn’t mind, but it needed a little TLC. The woman who was helping us make a decision seemed awfully pushy and seemed more like a salesman, and I didn't like that. The place was nice, a little worn and very comfortable, like an old shoe.

Provider Response

We are so happy that you visited Wesleyan Village! Thank you. We are also pleased that you considered us "very comfortable" because our desire is to make folks feel like they are home. I will follow-up on the delivery of our message. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I may be of service. Thanks again, Kathie Will Executive Director

We went to Wesleyan Village Assisted Living. The activities seemed to be more engaging because they had more independent living people integrated with the assisted living people. They tend to be a little bit more involved and more active. It was a very nice, clean facility, and the staff seemed to know all the residents. We saw the menu for the day, but we did not try the food. They had a card room, pool tables, ping-pong tables, library, and arts and crafts room. It's a little pricier for what you get in terms of the room. You only get a single room that serves as a bedroom and sitting room. It's very small.

Provider Response

Bob, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We appreciate your positive comments about our Assisted Living amenities and activities. If you have any questions or would like to receive additional information about Wesleyan Village, please feel free to give us a call at 440-284-9000. We're always happy to help!

The tour at Wesleyan Village was informative and helpful. It gave us a good overview of what to expect. They have memory care, nursing care, assisted and independent living. The place looked fine to me. If you're in assisted living, they provide three meals. They have a swimming pool, a chapel, and they offer church services. They go on excursions here and there, and they have programs. The staff seemed to be caring. They seemed to do a good job. The people that we know who live there have been happy with their care. We have eaten there on various occasions and their food was good.

Wesleyan is expensive. It’s very limited on who can get in, and you have to commit to paying for a couple of years before they’ll allow you to go on Medicaid. It’s a very nice place, upscale, exclusive. It has a cafeteria, shop, and fast food.

My mother is in Wesleyan Village. It is a continuum of care, and it will take you from assisted living through end of days. The people there are very nice. My mother is very happy there, and the residents seem very happy there. Everyone I talk to have a very good and positive thing to say, and it very reassuring to know that it has very positive feedback from everyone I search about it. The entertainment is very nice. They bring in classical pianist and cellist. So, the entertainment level is better than the average. We are just really happy to where she is at. The food is very good. In fact, when I go there, I love to go to the restaurant. It is like a fancy restaurant or you can go to the cafe. I also go the salad bars and they have a fruit bar that I love where they have all these beautiful raspberries, blackberries and blueberries fresh that you can put into your yogurt. They have wonderful food. They have movie nights, crafts and a wood shop. They have a lot of activities. My mom is like, "I'm going here with so and so" or "We are gonna go to movie nights" or "We are gonna go down to the art room." You can see things in their store there that are made by the residents. It is a big place. They even have a pool to do the water exercises. The physical therapy room is nice, and the girl that they have there is really nice.

We placed Mom at Wesleyan Village. We chose it because it's close to our home, and they take Medicaid, which we will eventually have to take advantage of. The rooms are fabulous. The staff is phenomenal and extremely helpful.

My mother lived at Wesleyan Village, so we are very familiar with it. It is large, and all the services that you would need are there. It is basically across the street from the new high school, so there is a lot of activity there and a lot of people. It is a pretty tight neighborhood, an older neighborhood. They had just all kinds of activities always going on. They are not exactly what I care for or my wife cares for, but they are good. When my mother moved up there, it was a big step, and she stayed there for about five years.

My best option would be Wesleyan Village. They have everything there. As a matter of fact, they even have a skilled nursing home for my wife. They have assisted living. They have patio homes. The staff was really good. The activities program was full. Wesleyan Village was a big operation. It was expensive, but their system is set up that when you run out of resources, they will keep you under your expenses.

Our visit to Wesleyan Village was wonderful and they had so many things. It was our first choice and we wanted to go there because it had a full continuum care. However, you have to have a quite a bit of money to go there. We saw an apartment -- it was very nice and it had a washer and dryer inside. That was a very nice feature to have. They had very good food. They offer two meals a day and housekeeping every two weeks. The staff who gave us a tour was wonderful, excellent and caring.

Our mother was a resident of the Wesleyan Village for nineteen years--first living independently, then in assisted living, followed by skilled nursing. All the staff at the Village supported her in caring, thoughtful, attentive ways. Because my sister and I were long-distance care-givers, we were especially aware of and attentive to the good quality of her care. Everyone--nursing staff, social workers, chaplain, aides, those providing support services, folks at the front desk, even maintenance and tech support--were helpful and kind. We have been deeply grateful to the Wesleyan Village.

I was encouraged to learn that there were many options open to my parents for what type of situation they wanted. I am relieved to learn they can have their own apartment and yet have someone there to monitor my mother's health. My parents are very independent minded and don't want to think of themselves as being in a situation where they can't lock their door and know their property won't be disturbed. I like the fact that they have the option to either cook for themselves or eat in the cafeteria and that someone is there to help with household chores. The one thing that did disturb me is how expensive the cost is. However, after thinking it over, I feel the cost is well worth knowing they would be safe. I would be very relieved to have them in a place such as this and want to look into options for help paying for them to live there.I like the idea that there are activities for them, and even transportation to and from doctor appointments.

This facility is very nice. The outside is very well kept and has wonderful curb appeal. The staff that works here do an amazing job at keeping the rooms neat and orderly. They are very friendly and genuinely seem to enjoy interacting with all of the residents. The nurses always took wonderful care of my grandfather and made sure that he was happy up until the day he passed. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone!
