I visited this facility

I had an in-person tour of Fairhaven. Overall, the experience was great. The staff was great. The living quarters were freshly remodeled, so they were all in good shape. I predominantly looked at one-bedroom apartments, and they were a good size. The cleanliness and upkeep were very good. Everything was centrally located as far as community rooms, multi-use rooms, and dining. The apartments had a good layout. You walk into the living room, with a kitchen just off to the side. They were still working on some areas downstairs.

Fairhaven was awesome. It was top-of-the-line. Everything about it was incredible. They had everything. For the activities, you name it, they had it. It seemed like they had all kinds of social activities, plus independent ones. They had the usual library and the woodshop, too. The staff was really good. We looked at a two-bedroom cottage that had all new furnishings and lots of space. It's very clean and neat with a nice view. There was a nice deck and the possibility of outside gardens. They had community gardens, where they could grow their own food if they wanted to, as well as a swimming pool.

Thank you for sharing about your experience visiting Fairhaven, and for and for your 5 star rating!

Everything at Fairhaven was very clean, bright and had been recently updated. It was very nice. I saw the list, they had a variety of different activities throughout the day that looked interesting. They had bingo every other day, they had cards and movies. We didn't eat in the dining room but they showed us the menu. Everything on the outside was also very nice. Everybody that we met with, the marketing director, the administrator, everyone there was very, very polite. They answered almost any questions that we had and were just very pleasant. Everything was clean and well-maintained.

Provider Response

Thanks for leaving us such a wonderful review about Fairhaven! It means the world to us, and we appreciate you mentioning many of the things that make our community such a wonderful place to live. Thanks again for your kind words!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother lived in the nursing home for 9 months until his death in Feb. 2018. For the most part, his care was good. The exceptions were 1) his MS made it difficult to swallow. I witnessed a staff member pushing pills into his mouth while he was struggling to manage a mouthful already and he was using ice water, which made it even harder. My brother had already contracted pneumonia from inhaling particles and that is what he died from in the end. 2) Rarely was staff available to get him out of bed when he wanted. It required a lift and apparently they were short staffed. Then when he wanted to return to bed, he often had to sit uncomfortably in a wheelchair for hours and he suffered from pressure sores. My sister-in-law (brother's widow) lives in an apartment. I just returned from a visit with her and feel she has excellent care, as she suffers from mild dementia. She is well looked after and her apartment is very well maintained. The grounds are beautiful. We took long walks in the woods which was a highlight. I have very grave concern over the way plastic is disposed of in the dining areas. I accompanied my sister-in-law on her volunteer job of passing water out to patients in the nursing home. Twice a day tall plastic glasses, lids and straws are switched. I was horrified to learn that all that plastic is thrown in the trash!! Twice a day!! I took it upon myself to carry all those items upstairs so as to place them in the recycling bin where the apartments are. Why or why can't they put those recycling bins in the dining areas? Plastic never goes away. It is contaminating our planet and causing havoc in the oceans where it inevitable ends up.

Fairhaven was wonderful, but it was just too small for my husband and I, and we needed a 2-bedroom apartment. There was nothing wrong with the place, it was just not for us.

We visited Fairhaven. The people we talked to said it's a nice place to live. The staff was very nice, very friendly, and very honest. It's on 300 acres with cottages, villas, and apartments, and we're looking for a cottage or villa. They have individual cottages, some with sunrooms or dens, two-bedrooms. We're very impressed. They had a woodshop, photography group, nature hikes, and painting cars.

Provider Response

Thank you for those kind words! We appreciate the beautiful setting that we are privileged to showcase on tours, and so fortunate to have residents who are eager to speak to their positive experiences here at Fairhaven. Our staff take a great deal of pride in guiding prospective residents through the research and exploration into Life Plan communities like ours. From those initial stages of your search, through downsizing, and moving, the Fairhaven team and our local business partners will make this decision one that you'll wish you made sooner!

I had a great visit at Fair Haven. They had an excellent staff, and some of the facilities they had available, like the cafeteria and the library, were really good. I saw people eating while I was there, and the meals looked appetizing. Everything about them was great, but it's just out of my price range.

I thought Fairhaven was very high-quality. It was very well laid-out and it seemed to have more activities and amenities than other facilities. I was able to see a couple of residences, and they were nicely laid out and user friendly. They had onsite medical staff, very nice eating facilities, and a very nice craft studio. The food was very good quality, with a nice assortment, and they had a variety of dining facilities where you can eat.

We liked Fairhaven, it had nice food, nice people, and very pleasant sales people. The apartments were decently sized, but they were on the wrong side of town.

The only one that I really took a tour of was Fairhaven, and it was wonderful. They should not have included the assisted living area when they did the tour because it was rather depressing. It wasn’t normally part of their tour, but my aunt was there, so I went and visited her. The room she was in was absolutely tiny and unattractive. She was miserable. The facility itself was very nice and had a lot of activities. They had individual one-story, roomy places, like cottages, all in a row with little backyards and a nice kitchen. I thought the living room would have required a lot more furniture than I have. They were very nice on the inside. There was also an apartment building that reminded me of a hotel. These rooms were very spacious and well lit. They had a pool there and exercise machines with an attendant who would help you. They had art classes and an art room. The lowest price I saw there was $144,000 to get in, and then like $2,000 a month or up. There were some places that had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a garage. I didn't have an objection to anything, except the assisted living.

Integrace Fairhaven was beautiful, but I would have been paying for a lot of amenities that I wouldn't have been using. Even after paying the entry fee each month, I would have had to come up with over $5,000 more to pay them. So, I said, "No, that's too much. I don't have it." It was a gorgeous place, and it was all fancy both outside and inside. The rooms were fine, and their sizes were okay. Some sections of the facility were older. There was a golf course and a lot of different things. The staff was very nice. The girl there was very nice and very pleasant. She showed us everything we wanted to see even though she realized that I couldn't afford it.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Buyer Beware! Fairhaven is not the quality independent living retirement community (CCRC) Marketing may lead you to think it is. Look beyond superficial renovations and Marketing hype. Main structure, cottages and older apartments have many structural issues, such as sewer back-ups, water leaks, unreliable HVAC and hot water, etc. Frequent patches are applied when something breaks but there is little substantive preventative maintenance or needed underlying structural updates. Note also that laundry facilities for older apartments are inadequate, are used by residents, family members and Fairhaven staff from all over the community, including the Health Center; and these machines are never sanitized unless a resident does so. Bottom line: Before you sign any contract, ask questions about basic living conditions. Marketing is not going to tell you about chronic issues and complaints from existing residents. Talk privately to residents in the type of unit want and who have lived at Fairhaven for more than a couple years -- not just the residents you are introduced to by Marketing. Once you sign and turn over the entrance fee, you may well be stuck because any refund may depend on when your unit is bought by a "new" resident. There are former residents/family that have been waiting 3 years or more for their refund.

They were all very helpful at Fairhaven. They have independent living villas, independent living cottages, and apartments. They had several different tours that they took us on to show us around, and it was very helpful to know their cost, etc.

Fairhaven was absolutely outstanding. A lady there explained everything. We toured, and she explained all the financing options. We visited each one of the apartments. I could not have asked for a more thorough and more delightful tour. She was absolutely outstanding. We saw everything -- the woodshop, the pool, the art class, and the library.

Fairhaven was a very nice community. We have visited this place for my friend. I like this one because it was more country, not too much in the city. However, like all the other facilities we visited, it also has the same services and features. We didn't visit any facility that we find unacceptable.

in my opinion it was a on average facility, it was clean for the most part i was really amazed by the types of activities. They had an art class which i really like for my grandma the even had lecture groups i feel that is good that the people get to converse with each other. My grandma is a big poker person that's her favorite activity to do an the also have movie night which very fun as she told me. the swimming pool was very clean to my surprise to me it was a perfect match for my grandma she could get her nails and toes done if she wanted to. On the fitness side the also supply a yoga class and muscle toning. but the beds were not all that soft and comfortable an the rooms did smell a little funny but i expected that over all ill give it a 4. its still a nice place an the nurses were nice too, thats always a major part in facilities like this like i said overall a solid 4

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother-in-law was a resident of Fairhaven for over five years and loved living there. My husband and I visited her frequently and we were both very happy with all aspects of her care. The staff members we interacted were always polite and friendly and genuinely seemed to are about the residents. There are a lot of wonderful activities available and many opportunities for the residents to socialize. My mother-in-law loved living there! We often ate meals with Mrs H and found the food to be delicious. There were a wide variety of options available for all dietary needs. We also spent many afternoons walking around the grounds and were always impressed by how beautifully the grounds were maintained. My mother-in-law passed away recently so I wanted to take this opportunity to express how grateful we were for the are she received. It cans be scary when a parent enters a retirement community but we always knew she was in good hands at Fairhaven. My own parents have plans to move there soon so I know I will be visiting there again many times.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We enjoy the busy community life at Fairhaven. But appreciate everything so much more this past week when my husband who has dementia suddenly developed breathing problems. After a phone call to the Wellness Center, the security staff arrived and helped us into the ambulance.. The Fairhaven social worker arrived at the hospital the next day to help me with paperwork, and the clergy arrived that night. Phone calls from several residents set up arrangements in our cottage for when we would return, which turned out to be six long days. Security met us when we returned to help us get inside and housekeeping arrived the next day to clean our cottage. Security then took us in a car to my husband's medical appointments in the Wellness Center. All the staff was aware of his situation and handled it quietly. Meals were delivered to us each day. It was reassuring to know that the "grape vine" here provided many of our friends and acquaintances with information. Fun foods and greeting cards followed, along with more offers of help. COMMUNITY COUNTS!

I am/was a resident of this facility

We moved into a Fairhaven Indipendent Living Cottage two years ago when my husband's dementia had become more difficult. We chose this as our first step to moving him into the Assisting Living Unit offered by Fairhaven. It will be convenient for me to continure to live in Independent Living, while still having the flexiblity of walking over to visit and take my husband out for trips or meals. This is encouraged by staff. We have had the opportunity of observing the facilities and quality of care up close on a regular basis. Also Fairhaven will not charge us an extra.fee when the time comes to do this. There is staff ready to help us make the decision when his dementia becomes unmanageable for me.

I recently visited a friend that is living in an apartment at Fairhaven. I've visited many retirement communities, nursing homes and assisted living facilities but I have to say that I was impressed with Fairhaven. My friend loves living there. She tells me she receives excellent care in every way. She gave us a tour. It's like walking into a very warm, hospitable community. The main building houses beautiful artwork, the food in the dining area was very good. My friend told me that she took water aerobics every morning and that there is either a class or activity going on all the time. The feeling is very comfortable, friendly and professional at the same time. My husband and I have an aunt that may be looking at assisted living communities soon. I received a packet from Fairhaven that I can't wait to show her.
