My daughter came and toured with me. My son through a contact, knew the questions that I should ask. I wanted to see what the various retirement communities looked like. I was from the Northeast area of Indiana. I was impressed with the finishes both exterior and interior. My accountant said it was doable. I wanted to be proud to live here and that people would want to visit me. I have food and have exercises available. Security, activities, outings, and transportation really factored into the equation. It is nice to have drivers, as I moved to an unfamiliar area. I have met wonderful people here. I simply gained a new group of friends. I like going to the various lectures and the symphony. They do a great job of bringing in entertainment. I was impressed that everything is here, in-house. Maintenance was one of the biggest factors in my transitioning to The Stratford. There always seemed to be something that needed fixing, a roof, a furnace, etc. I say it was to spare my children, but it was also for me. The in-home washer and dryer and the underground parking were other big factors. I recommend looking at places that are fully established. I would advise that people look for the maintenance, laundry, parking, and transportation. The activities are also important. I am not lonely here. I have many friends. I serve on member committees and was previously a Resident Advisory Council board member. Maintenance is always there promptly, willing and always so kind. There is a Guild with the Coxhill Gardens. We are involved with maintaining the integrity of the estate. While I have gotten older, I have enjoyed the amenities here. I noticed that I do go to the grocery store less. I enjoy that there are various activities. I have the freedom to choose the activities I want and somebody is not always knocking on my door for further involvement. The valet is a nice bonus. The dining room is very stunning.

We moved in on the 8th of July of 2014. We lived in Lebanon, IN, and were growing weary with living on 2.5 acres. Growing physical limitations sparked our search for a retirement living situation. We wanted to rent. It did not make sense to invest in something after selling our house and land. We looked at The Stratford and one other community, only interested in cottages as we wanted our own home. The Stratford had availability and met our expectations. We really liked the exercise program. Having been active in Silver Sneakers, we wanted to keep up with that lifestyle. We attend the 9:15 class every morning and are part of the walking club. We wanted to rent. We did not want to sell our house and buy something else. We were interested in cottages. After being referred by a friend, we visited for a tour. We instantly liked the cottages and valued that we could rent out cottage. It is a nice community. We still go and do as we did before. We simply do not have the maintenance. You don’t have any worries at The Stratford. I would recommend anyone to check out The Stratford. I do advise that to move here or any community, you need to be sure that you want to get rid of your house and downsize. Secondly, if you do downsize and choose The Stratford, be ready to make new friends. We enjoy talking to the residents and staff. We like to come over to the villa building and walk. It is wonderful to meet people. Ironically, due to those walks, we know more people in the villa building than in the cottages- although there are great parties to be had in the cottages.
