Is there any way I can find out on my own if a family member really has the power of attorney that they claim to have?

Practicalone asked...

My brother states he has power of attorney but we have never seen any forms to prove it. How can I find out if he does and what are my options if I think that he might need an additional person to help handle financial matters?

This is a matter where you'd have to hire a lawyer. And be prepared to spend some money.

I assume that you've already asked your brother to show you the power of attorney and he's refused. Perhaps if a lawyer wrote an emphatic letter to your brother, that could prompt him to show you the document, if there is one. If he refuses, then you and the lawyer would have to figure out your next steps.
