I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a patient at this facility for 13 months in 2016/17 What a nightmare it was. A nursing home should be a place ware you nursed back to health, or allowed to die in dignity. This place provides neither. It is a facility that warehouses you until your death. I do not want to bad moth the staff 30% are great. They are caring, and also frustrated having to work in such conditions. Which explains the high turn over rate. The first priority should be cleanliness, If you bed ridden and you soil yourself your wait time to be cleaned is an hour or more. The second priority should be rest. Many of the staff are rude, I was often woken in the middle of the night by a nurse giving me an injection of insulin. The staff is very noisy during rest hours and the lights are on 24/7. Third priority, Nutrition. Looking in the kitchen I see one cook for the entire facility, It is opening a can or box and heating it up. This department is tied by a very low budget. Fourth Priority, Medical care. There is one doctor on call. In the year I was there he visited my bed maybe 3 times. He never gave me or my family the time of day. Nurses did the best they could. Fifth priority Comfort, Be prepared to freeze I was often cold. I felt very sorry for the patients that could not fend for themselves. I often saw them laying there in thin hospital gowns and no covers. Night time was a nightmare, Your CNA was often a from a temp agency, They could care less about you as a person. It was sad but many of the patients would scream the night away. It was like a horror movie. I would love to see the P & L statement. Knowing what they charged a month the profits had to be huge.

I am/was a resident of this facility

0 Stars! Having been a resident here, I can tell you first-hand you do not want your loved ones to have to suffer here! The morning shift is the only shift that does their job well and. I dread 3 pm because that is the absolute worst shift. You would think it would be late at night because they have only one CNA per 17 patients (which should be illegal). But no it's the shift before that, the evening shift that it's absolutely terrible. The nurses and CNAs are rude with horrible attitudes, they take over an hour to answer a call light, and chastise you for not being more patient for understanding of other patients. As a resident here and not a nurse, my health is my first priority. As should your loved ones should be yours. I am absolutely shocked that such terrible people are allowed to take care of others. If they do come into your room, it's only to turn the call light off and to let you know that they are with another patient and that they will be with you when they are done. But almost two hours later and they still haven't come back. And it wasn't just one time this happened either. It's a consistent daily ritual with the evening shift. And there are no supervisors to complain to at that time. They will not reposition you or if they do they will do so as quickly as possible without caring whether it was done properly. I had to try to call them back to at least flatten the sheet under my body. I kept calling them every 15 minutes for over an hour. Finally a nurse comes in and says it's only been30 minutes when I have actual proof because I make calls from my cell phone showing the times( I have to call them for my own cell phone because the call light goes unanswered) They treat you like a nuisance and act like they have more important things to do. I heard another Resident say that they are actually hiding at that time. If you tried to speak with the director of nursing, they say they will come to you but instead will Dodge you and just go home. I would no suggest talking to her anyways because she is as messed up as the attitudes with the evening shift.0 listen to the reviews always look that up when choosing a nursing home for your loved ones. This place only gets two stars for a reason although I am surprised it is not much lower. Furthermore this place stinks constantly, like stale urine. I have nothing good to recommend the place. The evening shift nurse shoves my medication at me and walks away without even bothering to give me my water. And you can hear them talking trash about people in the hallways. Perhaps they are used2 only having residence who are not alert and therefore cannot complain about what they overhear. So unprofessional. They cant even remember what were the last medications they had given you. There is absolutely nothing to do not even watch TV because there isn't one.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Below are just a fraction of our bad experiences with Newport Subacute Health Center. This place does not even deserve a 1 star review but I had little choice. Unanswered questions and dismissive answers regarding patient care and the refusal of head nurse to meet with family to address concerns despite admin attempting to set up a meeting. No written report filed regarding complaints. When serious health concerns were addressed to staff, we were told it was "normal" when if fact, it was not. Bedsores. Poor quality food which does not meet dietary guidelines. Overwhelming smell of urine throughout the facility. Unanswered call lights or assistants would come in and turn the call lights off and say "someone will be with you shortly" and no one would come back. This was a daily and nightly occurrence and repeated with every patient. Understaffed and staffing with limited communication skills. Substandard physical therapy. Patients who sit in their own waste and vomit for hours. Staff removes food trays before patient has finished or fails to assist in feeding those with difficulty 11.Staff Doctor who is only on site 1 day a week and only for a few hours which would be impossible to see and access every patient in the facility. 12.Requests by the patient to have their family contacted were ignored and the patient was lied to by staff that they called and spoke to the family. 13.Requests by the family to be contacted 24/7 if patient was upset were ignored. 14.Staff mocking patients and making faces at them in attempts to incite anger on the part of the patient. 15.TV's that do not work and patients left in their rooms with no entertainment or interaction. I visited this facility

They have a wonderful staff that truly cares about the well-being of their patients. At first I was skeptical about this facility because of some of the customer reviews but was sent here because of my mother's HMO. The staff were some of the nicest and most caring people i have ever met. I can't thank them enough. Veronica assisted my mother during the final 8 weeks of her life and was a complete angel. I am so thankful that they made my mother's last moments pleasurable and peaceful.

This facility does not have a smoke free place to take your loved ones outside. They have a large, beautiful patio for smokers, but not for non-smokers. They have another patio but refuse to give access to non smoking residents and their families. We tried sharing the smoking patio but the smoke and smell was too overwhelming besides being unhealthy. We have tried talking to the management but they just don't seem to care.
