"My Mother was a resident at Burcham Hills for over 5 years until her passing March 2017. As I visited her almost every single day during those years, I can attest to the fact that she was very happy, received extremely good care from all staff, loved the food and thoroughly enjoyed the friendships she established. She loved the tremendous variety of recreation in which she participated at every opportunity; both within Burcham and on various trips to local establishments and events. Throughout her time there she participated in the FIT program which helped strengthened her muscles to keep her on her feet. She also took advantage of Burcham driving her to doctor and dentist appointments at no charge. All along, but especially during our mother's last couple weeks of life, the Burcham Community (management and staff) as a whole were unbelievably supportive of not only my mother but our family. There is so very many special things to say about Burcham as a place where anyone would want their parent to reside. Our mother mostly lived in the Resident Center - Assisted LIving but also was in memory care and in Burcham's rehab center several times over the years. In all cases, I found management - including the Executive DIrector, all Administrators, Clinical Nursing Directors, and all department heads, ,to be very responsive and extremely approachable -- and they listened with heart. My sister and I have been so impressed with the care our mother received and how wonderful Burcham was to our family, that we now volunteer for events even though our mother has passed. Along with everything else that I grew to love about Burcham and staff, I realized that Burcham was the only place (that I know of) where my mother could have all levels of care as needed without leaving the building as they offer independent, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and rehab. It truly is a great "Community". I can say all of these positive things about Burcham as I am a former nursing home administrator, social worker and school teacher. "

"Grandhaven Manor II is a very nice place with very nice facilities. The staff does a good job. They have something going on every day. My apartment is very nice. They have a courtyard and covered parking."

"I expected Brookdale Meridian to be a little brighter and cheerier, and it wasn't. The staff was very helpful, very accommodating, and explained everything all upfront. Our visit was very nice, but I didn't particularly care for the layout."

"We went to Grandhaven Manor Communities but I wasn't comfortable. There was no one around, of course, it was a Saturday, but there were just no people in the hallways. There was an outlet cover on the floor and it's stuck up, so it was a tripping hazard. We weren't excited about that and they should do something about that. I only saw one staff member; she's the lady who showed us around. Everything was shut down and the amenities weren't that different from the other places we saw. They had big walk-in closets and this would have been number 2 on our list when my mom and I were there, there weren't many people out. The rooms were a nice size. The one lady I met with was very helpful and friendly."

"The room my mother had and my uncle has now has a sliding door that leads to a small patio. It is very pleasanst when the door is open. The size of the room is certainly adequate for what my family members have needed. The staff is very friendly and caring, and at the end of my mother's life, they were extremely respectful and compassionate. Grandhaven offers a number of social activities and finds reasons to celebrate upcoming events as special as holidays or as ordinary as Fridays , but my mother especially enjoyed all of the musical offerings that were provided. I am pleased that they have recently added a therapy room which I think will help many of the residents. The administration at Grandhaven went out of their way to help get my uncle settled in a short amount of time. At the time they reassured me that they would help me in any way they could, and they fulfilled their promise in a number of different ways. If I were to offer one suggestion it would be that it be easier to reach someone on staff in the unit when our loved one could not be reached. Other than that our experiences with Grandhaven have been very positive."

"It was a very nice place and accessible to services she needed like medical and shopping centers. They had different activities and things for the residents to do. Although I hadn't tried their food, I saw that it looked good and they had a nice variety. The room was a little small for my aunt's purposes since she had a lot of stuff from her hobbies. Otherwise, the size was perfectly adequate. I would have been happy if my aunt stayed there."

"My mother is in the Independence Village of Grand Ledge. They have excellent care, they're very attentive and their food is excellent. The staff is just so good and they have lots of activities. You can do everything, you can go to church, there are traveling practitioners that come into the office and I hooked her up with everything. They have a small gym with bikes and treadmills. They have a hair salon, they have a podiatrist at home and they had a lady for hearing audiology and a nurse practitioner that comes in the building. She's very happy and we're happy. I don't know if there's any place that's cheaper than them but they're very expensive."

"The staff at Bickford of Okemos was very nice. A couple of the staff had been there over 10 years, which is an attractive element. The longevity of the care staff is really important because it's difficult to maintain those staff. They were very good. The person during the tour was very knowledgeable and passionate about her opportunity to provide care to the people. She's probably the warmest, most passionate person I talked to at all the facilities that I went to. She was topnotch. It was difficult not to choose them. If it doesn't work out at the other place, I wouldn't hesitate to move my father to the Bickford of Okemos. We wanted to put him in a studio apartment, and there wasn't one available. They had one available, but it would've been $40 more a day. The outdoor spaces were really pretty. They had a courtyard, but no pool."

"My mother is here. She is in a 1-bedroom apartment. She has a small kitchen, but she doesn’t really need it as much. The room is nice. The staff has been very helpful. They watch over her. They put up with her short temper and always make sure that she gets her pills and her meals and everything else, so that’s good. They have a lot of activities there. They have bingo and arts & crafts. They have some kind of bus, and it has one of those things on the back that it could pick up wheelchairs and electric carts and put them in the back inside. They go to different places. They have people that come in and entertain. They have a baby grand piano in the main area, and sometimes people would get to singing. When you walk in to the right, there is a little meet and greet place for the people that live there. They could get juice, coffee, hot tea, and hot water, and they have little snacks or fruits. They play trivia a lot. They have a church that comes in there. They have communion every Sunday. I love the place. My mother is not a pleasant person to always be around. She is 89. She can get grumpy and very demanding if something doesn’t go her way, but they do her laundry, they clean her apartment, and she gets 3 wonderful meals everyday. They do an excellent job on that. My mother does not complain about the food at all. "

"I went to New Haven Foster Care. The rooms were good sized. I liked that it was homey. It felt like you were in a house, although it had lots of bedrooms. They had a common area. Someone could stay in their room and not feel cramped and they could come out to the common area as they wished. The place was neat. The residents were watching TV. There weren't any planned activities going on. The staff person when I was there was pleasant and delightful, answered all my questions and told me things I didn't know I needed to know. The dining area was homey. It had a nice big table for group meals. The facility was well laid out. There were some larger rooms and some smaller rooms, and the price reflected the size of the room. Even the small rooms were pleasant and big enough. I wouldn't mind staying in the small room. I could spend some time in my room and be happy. They have a big backyard. You could have a TV in your room. There's not a salon, but they have people come in to provide those services. They didn't provide transportation for anything. That's the responsibility of the family."

"I volunteered with students here and always had great interaction with the staff. The staff and resident interactions were always appropriate and fabulous. The residents seemed very happy and content, they have a family at Oliver woods. I’ve seen pets there and being so many smiles when the residents got to pet them. The food always looked so delicious, the kitchen crew does a great job. Every employee there was always generously kind, and helpful. I would recommend Oliver woods to my family and friends no questions asked. The rooms looked great and comfortable, there was always so many activities going on everyday that the residents seemed to throughly enjoy. "
