I am/was a resident of this facility

Last March, after my having received a diagnosis of malignant melanoma and possibly only one year to live, my wife and I moved into Montereau. Later we discovered that the agreement we signed had not been thoroughly explained to us. Later we discovered that Montereau did not live up to the website promises. After 7.5 months of living there, we moved out. The management refused to discuss an error they made in refunding my entrance fee. We paid $44,400 per month to live there. If you are considering moving to Montereau, I strongly suggest you have an attorney review the contract before you sign it. The residents are great, the staff is courteous and friendly and the facility is lovely. Upper management is where the problem lies. Dr. Gene McCormick

I visited this facility

We went to Montereau and toured their assisted living, skilled nursing, and long-term care. The staff was very friendly. The facility was very clean and pretty. The residents appeared to be happy. It's a very nice facility. The rooms were adequate. For assisted living, they had different room sizes. They had one-bedroom and two-bedroom. They had different floor plans and sizes to accommodate your needs and your finances. Their dining was very clean. They showed us a menu. They have multiple choices every day and they have different meals available every day like a standard menu plus specials for the day. The tables are distanced for social distancing because of Covid. They are provided three meals a day, and that's included in the fees. They have music, a library, and outings outside the facility. They do not have a stove or oven in the apartments but they have a refrigerator and a microwave and that's in the assisted living. The cost is higher but I think it's more of an upper-level facility. It would be nice if the fees were a little more affordable.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother moved into Montereau. The place is very plush. It's like a resort, it has very high-end furnishings, all furnished, it has a beauty salon, and the food is excellent. It's high dollar -- it's not a cheap place, but they take very good care of her, and we are very pleased with her move so far. We had her ninety-second birthday party there. We had it in a conference room. They made an exception since she had already had COVID, so we just had to maintain a six-foot distance. Of course we weren't going to get it from her; she had already been through the quarantine period. Once the weather turns reasonable, we will do window visits with her. She goes down to the dining room occasionally. She has speech and physical therapy, they take her around to show her places, and she gets to visit with some of the residents. She has a daily routine, they have showers, they take very good care of her (a lot of doctoring because she's still recuperating), and they do report to us regularly, which is unusual. Usually if we get her in a facility, we have no idea what happens; it's just like she gets dumped in a black hole. They have a physician on staff and around three nurses. The place is spotlessly clean. It has been recently remodeled, and it's top of the line.

I visited this facility

We paid the deposit, packed my belongings, drove to the facility and were ready to move in. They placed us in a guest apartment when we arrived. The person at the front desk was very surly; the visitors toilet was not functioning; the shower in the guest apt was broken with used towels with toothpaste, etc for our use. Carpeting through out facility was very old. At five in the morning we awoke, said this is not for us, and left. The good news is that our deposit was promptly returned. This place has a very good reputation but our experience was very bad. We thank our lucky stars we didn't move in. We really had decided on a continuing care facility because of our ages, but this one was not for us.

Montereau is a retirement assisted living facility. You buy in to the facility and the cost of that ranges from about $350,000 up to $600,000, or $6,000 to $7,000 a month, but you're talking about a place with marble everywhere and granite countertops. It's like you're on a cruise every day.

My mother stayed at Montereau for her rehab. It's a high-end retirement facility with a rehab wing on it. No negative comments on the staff and the services. It's all positive. They're very helpful and caring. The food was outstanding and the dining area was communal. There were long tables where everybody sits or they will bring your food to your room. The food was excellent. They have multiple activities like outings, singing, art classes, and all sorts of stuff.

I visited Montereau, and I liked it. But money is the problem with this place because it is very expensive. Everything would have to be a 5, but affording it is the next issue. The dining area was nice. They had a chef cooking every meal and doing the whole thing, and you don’t have to be there at certain times to eat any meal; it’s more like your leisure time. It is probably a couple of miles from the mall in each direction, and it’s very close to St. Francis Hospital. They had more paying activities, which depended on what you are able to do. It seemed like the people there may have been more active and more able to go on trips and cruises and that type of thing. They didn’t have as many activities on site as some of the others, but they had like walking trails.

My mother is in Montereau, and they let me put her sister there in the room with her. The place is wonderful and looks like a fancy upscale hotel, with wallpaper, carpets, chest of drawers, and a recliner. They have an Alzheimer's unit, a skilled unit, assisted living, and residential unit. They have three restaurants in the facility: burger restaurant, big buffet, and a steak house. They have apartments that people can buy or rent and live in. It is nice and has a huge spread of daily activities and devotional time every day. They have church services during the week and arts and crafts every day. They have people come play the piano. They are well staffed, which impresses me.

My mom broke her hip and was in Montereau. It’s a huge retirement home with assisted living, skilled nursing, and all kinds of care. They have thousands of residents. It was an excellent place, extremely high end, and very nice, but only the very wealthy can go there. You get massages included in your stay. It had a full salon and a bank. It’s like a 5-star hotel and very clean with linen table cloths and china for dinner. The staff was very nice, really good, and very attentive. I didn’t get any bad feelings about anybody there.

I visited Montereau. They had very good food, and the dining area was restaurant-style. The building was fairly new and seemed well constructed. The atmosphere was excellent. It's located on a fairly large campus with some houses where people lived. The staff put in a lot of work on me. They had a full schedule of activities and had everything there, but it’s a very expensive place.

I visited this facility

Montereau was -- I believe -- one of the first ones that we went to, and it was $1,700 for a month or something like that. It was just way overpriced. It did have a nice eating area. It was probably more like a four or five-star place. Very friendly staff, very efficient. I think as the saying goes, "You get what you pay for." They were studio apartments, and they were $1700 a month, but they furnish all three meals, and they had a nurse on site. They have their medical staff on site. Their dining room was probably close to an A-1 from what I saw. There was a salad bar and different things for them to eat or kind of a menu type. I was impressed by the cleanliness of it, and it was a little more upscale. They had a bus that they could get on and go out to a museum or something like that. They took them around. They had a game room type of thing where they take them down to play bingo or some kind of game or dominoes. And then, they have senior get-togethers and stuff like that. They also have a van that would take them to town or shopping. Of course, that was all extra.

Montereau is a good location. It’s less than a mile away from the hospital. When I stepped in, I felt like I was on a resort vacation to somewhere else. The staff is professional, courteous, and very responsive. They’re very dedicated and helpful. They have multiple dining rooms, and each one is phenomenal. They take care that the special diets are met. The apartments are like staying in a resort. They have one-bedroom, studios, and two-bedroom apartments. They have a swimming pool and a bar. They have movies, activities all the time, and they have lunch once a week outside the facility, which has transportation provided. They go on events and outings. They have a yoga and a Pilate’s room. The staff is very dedicated to making sure the living conditions are of high quality, and everything about the facility is presentable.

I visited this facility

I went to Montereau the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and took a little bit of a tour. It is in the other side of 71st Street in a very wooded area. They've been up for 10 years. It's very nice, very clean and very well kept. They have four restaurants. They have a spa and a wonderful fitness area. They have a chapel for all faiths. They have a wide variety of activities from painting to games, bridge and billiards. I want to go live there, it's a great place. There are many senior adult couples who live there that one of the spouses is in the Alzheimer memory care place while the other one could enjoy the independent living and I think it would give my father a measure of support. My father's wife has pretty advanced stage of Alzheimer's and he would be in independent living area where she would be in the more highly structured memory care.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My sister lived at Montereau and it was a very nice place. I liked that they had locked doors as their security system. There was a nurse 24/7 and a clerk. The dining room was gorgeous and they brought their own things in their rooms except cookware. The list of activities for the day were posted on a board, they took trips to the mall or grocery store. It seemed like the residents were happy there and I would recommend this place to others who needed that kind of assistance.
