Cincinnati is an economic and cultural hub along the Ohio River near the border of Kentucky and Indiana that has quite a bit to offer seniors. In addition to an abundance of museums, restaurants and other shopping locations, the city has an extensive recreational program that helps local seniors participate in everything from aerobics and sports to crafts and dance. It’s no surprise that more than 36,000 people aged 65 and over call Cincinnati home.
Seniors in Cincinnati who would rather age in place than move to a nursing or assisted living facility have many different options for quality home care. Agencies in the area charge an average of about $22 per hour according to Genworth’s 2018 Cost of Care Survey. The average annual cost is the same for both in-home care and home health care at $50,336. The national averages for in-home care and home health care, $21 and $22 per hour respectively, are about the same as costs in Cincinnati.
At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Cincinnati area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Queen City Elder Care has been a blessing to our family over the last three years. Sallie and her staff of excellent caregivers go above and beyond in their daily care of our mother who is in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. Not only is the staff prompt, courteous and attentive to Mom’s needs, they provide lunch, good conversation as well as enrichment in the forms of puzzles, art projects, walks, music, some cooking, light housekeeping and more. As Director of Client Services, Sallie’s organizational skills are amazing as is her prompt attention to our family’s needs and requests. Not only does she recruit, hire and schedule but she is the go-between with our family and our caregivers. We are able to contact Sallie with questions or requests just about any time of the day or night. Long-time caregiver, Ashley, is a gem, always pleasant, kind and provides help with laundry and housekeeping. We are very pleased to have found Queen City Elder Care!

Cura Care Corp provides in-house care for my wife. They could also do some errands although we haven’t tried that yet. I chose this agency because of their location, since they’re closer to me. I also thought that they’re a smaller organization and could be more flexible. The caregivers seem to be nice people; they’re trying. We’ve just been getting started with them and our experience is likely to improve. Maybe the scheduling could be a little better.

We ended up choosing HomeCare.com and it worked well for me. They were cooking my meals, making my bed, doing some laundry, driving me to visit my husband in the hospital, and doing a little grocery shopping for me. I had two different people come to cover the 10 or 11 days. Both of them were very good. They had different personalities. One of them was sort of quiet. She asked me what I needed and we communicated that way, but she was not a big talker, which was fine. Once she knew the things that I wanted done, she just went and did them. I liked her. She was a nice lady. It took them a while to find somebody to fill a couple of days that the one gal was not able to do. They did finally find someone, but it was like right down to the wire. It met all my needs. I liked the people that they sent. I felt they were caring people and I felt comfortable with them in my home.

I highly recommend QCH and plan on using it in the future when I need health/home care assistance again.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
