Does Chemotherapy work for Squamous Cell Cancer in a lymph node?

I was recently operated on the left parotid gland when it was determined that a lymph contained squamous cell cancer. The lymph node an posterior portion of the gland were removed. I am now told that I need radiation therapy to ensure that microscopic squamous cell that may be present in adjacent nodes may be killed.. I would prefer Chemotherapy. Is Chemo therapy effective in treating this type of cancer.
