Am I responsible for my Mother's nursing home bills after she's passed?

My Mother was in a nursing home while taking chemotherapy. When her Medicare ran out her Cancer had progressed. It wasn't possible to take her home. The nursing home attempted to apply for Medicaid, but before her case was even looked at she passed away. The Medcaid was denied and I'm wondering if I will be responsible for her bills? She had enough insurance for her cremation, but nothing else. Her home is going into foreclosure. She had a mortgage on it as well as a line of credit. There was no will, and no estate. I'm at a loss, I am the only family, and I'm starting to see medical bills being sent to her. I can't even bury her... How do I pay for everything else?
