We needed to place mom somewhere. We chose Alderwood for several different reasons. The admissions woman was exactly what my siblings and I needed. She wasn’t pushy and was also there to answer our questions before actually admitting mom. Mom’s room is perfect had just been painted before she arrived. Large enough for us to come visit and not be crowded. We have loved all the staff there taking care of mom. They all seem to truly care about their residents. Yes sometimes she has to wait after pushing her buzzer but they come as soon as they can and take care of business.

There are limited number of single rooms. You are bound to a regular shower schedule. The bathrooms are shared by 2-4 people. There is limited storage space. They provide tissue, toiletries, and other needs. The food is great.

The rooms are so outdated and filthy. Someone across the hall was yelling for help and the staff would just close the door, to drown her out. When we went into the bathroom, our shoes stuck to the floor because of pure filthy or urine on the floor. Pushed the button for help and no one came. Later we were told they didn't know there was a patient in the room. if you love your family or friends, do not send them here.

I stayed at Alderwood Manor for two years, and the care was fantastic. The therapists were just awesome, and the staff was very good. The only reason I left was went to a place because I was able to get an apartment by myself, but I only lived there. They have bingo, shopping once or twice a month, cards, and a cooking class. It’s an awesome place for what’s it for.

I have had several family members in this facility in the past six years; more recently, my grandmother and grandfather. While my grandfather was in Alderwood Manor (approximately 26 months ago), he frequently told me that he did not like his time in physical therapy. I asked him why he did not like it, and he told me it was primarily because the therapists would not listen to him and if something was hurting him or making him feel uncomfortable, they would keep pushing him to do more. My grandpa confessed to me that there were several times in which he knew he had a scheduled time to go to the physical therapy appointment, and instead of going, he would hide in a closet or another resident's room. Grandpa told me they did not attempt to locate him when he missed his scheduled appointment. While my grandmother was a resident (a little over a year ago), I was unemployed, and spent a lot of time with her; in her room. I found that the location was significantly understaffed or that the nurses or nurses assistants did not respond to the residents requests for help. I can note several times that a "NAC" would come into the room approximatley twenty mintes AFTER we pressed the button. A majority of these calls were for assistance to use the restroom, since my grandmother was listed as a "risk to fall." The "NAC" would come into the room and assist my grandmother to the toilet and would tell her to press the button when she was done. Several times, we would have to wait an additional 10 to 30 minutes to get assistance with removing her from the toilet. When my grandmother would allow me to leave the room to find someone, I always got the same comment..."they will be in there shortly, if the button was pressed." I was impressed with the foods they had available, and that they followed the diets my grandmother and grandfather were to be on. (And that they didn't let my grandfather talk staff into having sweets he was not to be consuming.) I was also impressed with the nursing staff calling us whenever an issue arised. It is with a heavy heart that I don't think I will be sending any additional family to this location; due to the lack of staff.
