I am/was a resident of this facility
I had broken my hip and had rehab at the Meridian. I think it’s a beautiful place to stay, but I can’t afford it. The staff was wonderful to me. They have a beautiful facility. The rooms were very nice, adequate, and comfortable.

I am a friend or relative of resident
POA's have no say if it contradicts their wishes. Ignores patients' wishes. Understaffed. Bad food. Sloppy surroundings. Overpriced. Overrated.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
We're very happy with Westwood Retirement Resort. We're very content with the things that they offer. But mom recently fell and broke a bone, so right now she's in the rehabilitation part. The people there are very nice, but I don't feel that there's enough staff. I just wish that it was better as far as the service goes. The rooms are very small, that's one of the main complaints. The other is their service on the meals. It will sit in the hallway, and sometimes it will take 45 to 50 minutes before we actually get it.
And I know they're busy and there's a lot of people that need a lot of help. So they really need more staff. They do have activities, but my mom does not participate. At this point, she really can't. But even when she can she's not an activities person. I would recommend the independent living, but not so much the rehabilitation part. I wouldn't say mom is happy, but she has gotten to where she's accepting and made a few friends. We're happy with the progress. It just seems to me like they're very understaffed.

I visited this facility
All of our experiences with the caregivers were exceptional, from the cafeteria to the security gaurds and the RN's. The food was very good and The staff stayed out of sight which I have got to believe makes the seniors feel good. The nurses seemed to check on the ones that were less independent and there seemed like activities were going on all the time. Yet there was divices on the doors, a security gaurd (maybe more I did not see) to assure the safety of the residents. I would have no problems if I had to be in here when I got too old.The building was in excellent shape and they had new TVs, chairs tables carpet and other furnature. All of the seniors seemed very happy and independent. The room were very spacious for one person and even had a fridge.

I visited this facility
The Westwood Retirement Resort was hosting a coin collectors convention when I visited it. This was about a year and a half ago. The facility itself was very clean and well laid out. The interior was very well lit, spacious and homely. In fact, I was rather surprised at the happiness of the atmosphere. I have been to a few other retirement homes in the past, and none possessed the same happy atmosphere. The staff are the best I have seen and are very helpful and seem to enjoy their jobs. Whenever something needs to be done, it gets done! The Westwood Retirement Resort is in a very good location as it is in the center of Fort Walton Beach so friends and families can visit relatively easy, and the White Wilson Medical Complex and the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center are adjacent to Westwood which both provide state of the art health care. There are also other medical practices and a quiet community nearby.
