Stonewall Gardens is a small facility. There are only 20-some-odd rooms. It seems like it would be very congenial, but it's a little bit farther away, and I'd feel a little bit isolated there. I just feel I would be more comfortable closer to home. It's also a little bit more expensive than the other place. It was lunchtime when we toured, and the staff had a couple of interruptions, but he was very personable and very helpful. He showed us three places and they were all very nice. I saw the menus. They offer three meals a day, seven days a week. Some of the people living there were eating when I walked in.

I went to Stonewall Gardens. I had great hopes for it, only because of the community, but once I saw it, it was unacceptable. It's a converted motel and the rooms only had studios, and they were just too small. Once I looked at it, I realized that I would not be happy there. The staff was very lovely, very warm, and welcoming. It does not appeal at all. They had one common room, which they used for dining, for crafts, and everything else, it's just a very small facility. They had a separate dining room. It was well kept up and well maintained.

Stonewall Gardens is a wonderful place, very well-run, well-organized, rooms are very nice, and it’s a beautiful facility. If I could afford it, I'd be there. I'm sure the food is very nice from what I understand, and the dining facility is very nice. One nice feature I like about the facility is that the rooms all face outside so you're not walking long hallways, and they have little patios. The rooms were just excellent.

Stonewall Gardens is good and doesn't feel like a hotel experience. They take the Zip Bus around Palm Springs every weekend, have a cocktail party on Thursday nights, and do art walks. What bothers me is that there aren't any automatic doors for people in wheelchairs or walkers to get into the eating facility. They have to struggle to get in themselves, and I find that to be very strange for an assisted living place. I guess it's an old motel that the owners had completely redone, but the rooms are too small. I'm in a studio, and the expense is very high. I took it because there's no other assisted living that I know of that reaches out to the gay community like this one.

I visited Stonewall Gardens last August, I liked it and thought it was very nice, but it wasn’t a fit for my mom. I liked the way it was setup -- like in a circle -- and there’s an area where they can sit out together and barbecue.

Stonewall is a lovely place, but it’s much too expensive than I can afford, and I’m much too young. The staff was perfectly wonderful, and everything there was superb. If I was older, and I have the money, that’s where I would go. The rooms were a little small but efficient, it had a bed, sofa, and a large bathroom. The rooms were small for the price.

I visited Stonewall for a concert and took a tour, wow all the rooms come with a large patio, a built in closet, drawers, stone countertops, fridge and a flat screen TV. The dining room was amazing with a beautiful fireplace, felt like a mid century upscale hotel. The view was so special, so were the staff, these people really cared about this special place. The huge courtyard had many seating areas and fruit trees, what a place and long over do.

Any assisted living facility can wow! you with a tour, and Stonewall Gardens will do just that — a stunning Palm Springs Mid-century modern oasis with a breathtaking view of Mt. San Jacinto, immaculately landscaped grounds, and exquisite attention paid to the smallest details of architecture and decor: this is not the “home” you visited grampa in 30 years ago! You may forget this is a care facility and think you’re on vacation at one of the city’s many boutique resorts… pass the sunscreen! :) But the real test of any assisted living facility is how the staff treats its residents — are you just a warm body filling a room, or a valued member of a community bringing a lifetime of experiences and having a few stories to tell? Adults in need of care (because of age, illness, or injury) are often patronized and belittled for their neediness rather than assisted with their living. At Stonewall Gardens the emphasis is on “living” as full and happy a life as possible; the “assistance” is a means to that end. Having come from another assisted living facility where I felt like my needs were a burden to those who reluctantly attended to them because that’s what I paid for, where the mindset was “do just enough so he doesn’t complain,” the difference at Stonewall begins with the fundamental respect every staff member has and shows for every resident; it’s like comparing a Volkswagen to a Cadillac.
