PT Joe is wonderful, a small handful of CNA's can be wonderful. But all around the level of incompetence is astonishing. Call bells not answered. Times i walk in and its empty. Nit a nurse in sight. Social workers there act like its their first day on the job. Literally dropped the ball every time. I wouldn't let them care for a pet hamster going forward.

I was a patient at this "place" a year ago !!! I have a serious allergy to any type 0f "MILK-TYPE" product !!! They were carefully made aware of my problem.!!!!!!!!!! THEY COULD HAVE CARED LESS !!!!!!!!!!! ALLMOST ALL of the food they provided had a form of 'lact' in it !!!!!" ( lactic, lactate, etc. !!!!!!! ) The nurse, or whatever she was) said, "WE CAN'T AFFORD A SPECIAL DIET JUST FOR HIM !!!! I would not recommend " Shady Knoll" to anyone, not even for a 'dog kennel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband was a veteran.... the VA got him into Shady Knoll for hospice care.... I have never seen such loving caring people in my life. They totally respected his needs right to the end.... I am so grateful to all of them... God bless them all who cared for him...

Do NOT put your loved one in this facility. The call bells are not answered in a timely manner; usually, it takes anywhere from 45 min. to 2 hours before they respond. The food is terrible. Put a spoon in Cream of Wheat cereal and the WHOLE bowl cereal and all come up with the spoon. They do NOT care for the individual patient's needs. The food is cold. The packaging is not opened for those that need help. The tray is not put within reach of patients that are unable to reach it to pull it closer. Bedside tables are not placed in resident's reach. There are a few caring people but very few! They are extremely understaffed; however, they say they are staffed to the guidelines of the state of Connecticut, which ultimately means the minimum number of employees to patients. The recreation department does nothing but bring the mail. There are very few employees that are tech-savvy to help residents with their tablets. And none in the Recreation Dept or at least none that are willing to do so. CNA's do not appear to be trained properly as they pull patients by their neck to move them in their beds and then tell them too bad; you are not a feather! Horrible place. Horrible. I am researching how to relocate the resident to another facility. Do NOT place your loved one in this place. And COVID 19 has nothing to do with how this facility is operated. Check the NursingHomeReport.org for Connecticut Staffing is listed a #2 and so is RN staffing. Be sure to click on Shady Knoll to see the full results. There is so much more that can be said in regards to the nasty treatment of patients; patients carried on a stretcher naked for all to see down the hallway to the shower. The resident begging to be covered. I could go on and on. Believe me, you DO NOT want to put your loved one in this facility. I cannot say it enough!

This is the WORST place you could EVER EVER put anyone. Rooms ALWAYS smell of urine, sheets NOT changed unless you ask, Patient care is HORRIBLE - they DO NOT pay attention to meds OR if someone is on a particular diet, needs of a Patient are NOT there. They are SO short staffed (is always their excuse) BUT fact is...... the people there just have that job to have a job NOT because they want to take care of OR even care about the Patients. My Mother walked into the facility FINE - some memory issues BUT nothing too too bad. We just knew she needed to be somewhere where they monitored eating so she eat well, have her meds when she should, had care - she just could not be on her own anymore..... in 1 year & 10 months she is gone. She was a diabetic and CONSTANTLY we had to remind them of her food diet needs, found her meds on the floor or dresser (they never stood there to make sure she actually took them UNTIL we kept bringing it to their attention, they would not bath her, change sheets and MANY days for days in PJ's, she decline rapidly to a weight of nothing, in a diaper FALLING 4, 5, 6, times - 1st time she was there only a few months when she fractured her hip, 2 months later she fell and BROKE her hip, BY THE WAY they DIDN'T call for hours that she was even at the hospital and 1 time they DID NOT call at all........... she then fell again hitting her head ALL in a matter of months WHICH contributed to her decline to permenantly in a wheel chair in a diaper............ with rapid weight loss. If she didn't want to eat they neglected to provide something she wanted or could eat, if she could not reach a tray OR didn't touch it they simply took it away MANY DAYS of NOTHING TO EAT. Cloths not washed, hair, bath nothing ...... room smells of pee, dirty floors, TRUST me I can go on and on..... 1 year & 10 months and she is NOW gone - DO NOT put ANYONE in this facility... it should be SHUT DOWN, it is DISGUSTING, GROSS, and no care

I recently visited this facility and as I got on the elevator a staff member told me to get off as she was loading the elevator with tables to take upstairs the other elevator was out of service. So I had to wait until the elevator returned in order to go up to the 3rd floor. Great customer service

My dad stayed at Shady Knoll Health Care Center. He had Alzheimer's, so we needed a high level of care. They were wonderful. The facility was extremely clean, the staff was very caring. And if there's anything going on, they'd call me. My dad enjoyed the food. They had a lot of community activities, like singing, which was probably top of my dad's list. They also did a lot of memory kinds of things, physical exercises, and he participated to the extent that he could. They also have therapy dogs which was wonderful for people with Alzheimer's. My dad passed last month.

Everyone there seemed to enjoy it even the workers. THe workers really put the time and effort into making everyone happy and safe. It was nice to see one of my relatives taken care of in such an enjoyable environment. I stongly suggest this place to anyone who is looking for a nursing home for their loved ones. THe local elementary school visits on Halloween in their costumes while the elderly people get to watch. The food there is my biggest complaint it was a step above of cafeteria food but it wasn't anything special. The rooms were very spacious and all had a TV in them. It was 2 to a room and had very nice furniture in it.I highly suggest to anyone in the local area to check it out and put your elderly loved ones here. The parking lot was also very large with many spaces so that wasn't a problem and the surrounding area was very pleasant to look at. You won't be disappointed with this fine establishment

my mother has been a resident for almost a decade. I have visited once or twice a week. The nursing home has very good staff; they are dedicated to the patients and are very good when working with the residents. There have been some uneven spots, however, with some of the doctors. My mother was given heavy anti depression drugs because she would not eat. When I visited periodically with cookies, she would happily eat anything I gave her. It ocurred to me that she might not like the food. When I checked that out, I found that her food was minced or ground so she could more readily eat it. She could not identify it visually however so she would not eat. When she transitioned back to unground food, her appetite was restored and she did not need as many meds. The facility is generally in a good state of repair. Sometimes it is kept too hot.

My mother stayed At Shady Knoll to recuperate from a broken leg. All rehab was done on premises. The well educated/trained staff treated her with such compassion. My mom being younger than most residents, had a hard time adjusting. The staff was wonderful with that transition and making her comfort a priority. Her room was cleaned every day by a very pleasant housekeeper.
