Blackstone Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Blackstone:

Blackstone Van Regional Transportation Services is a free door-to-door transport service for seniors over the age of 60 with no other means of transportation. The van takes seniors to grocery stores, banks, appointments and social events. Medical appointments always take priority over other destinations. Rides need to be scheduled in advance to ensure that a van is available for the particular route. Wheelchairs can be accommodated. Transport is available from Monday to Friday only.

Meals on Wheels

Phone Number: (508) 949-6640

Tri Valley is a nonprofit organization that runs a Meals on Wheels program in the Blackstone area. The program delivers meals to homebound seniors who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. A hot meal is delivered each day around noon by a team of volunteer drivers. Cold evening meals and weekend frozen meals are provided for those that have no other meal preparation options. There is a suggested donation per meal to help cover costs but no senior will ever be denied meals if they cannot afford the donation. The volunteers check on the seniors while delivering the meals and let the program staff know if anything is amiss.

Priority is given to seniors and households with young children. Some of the services offered include installing insulation, boiler repair and replacement, reducing drafts and ensuring proper ventilation. There is no charge for these services.

Outreach S.H.I.N.E Program

Address: Senior Center Annex,15 St. Paul Street, Blackstone, MA 01504

S.H.I.N.E. provides counselors to assist seniors in understanding health information and insurance and ensuring the seniors have the cover and assistance that they are eligible for.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
