My mom has been in the hospital for a week. Stage IV ovarian cancer. She now has an inoperable intestine block. She cannot eat or drink and has tube to prevent nausea. She may be getting a pick line to assist w/calories. She has not eaten for 2 weeks. She will not qualify for Hospice w/tube. What are her options? She has Medicare B. Can she get a nurse at home until she needs to go into a nursing home?

You have a few options available to you. First identify if your mom has a Long Term Insurance Plan. If she does, there are specific guidelines to the types of home care if any... that are acceptable. Try to avoid going private. There are a lot of potholes in picking someone yourself and paying them directly (i.e. insurance to protect yourself against accidents, taxes and wages must be paid/withheld correctly otherwise you may end up owing at the end of the year, criminal background screening, etc.)

I invite you to take a look at our website and feel things out from there. You may find that you like what you see with regard to agency verses private. Also many places (Just as we do) offer FREE home assessments which you may find helpful.
