We like Brookdale Burlington Memory Care. I would be perfectly fine sending my wife there without sending her anywhere. Everything was bright and new-looking, and the people were happy and helpful. It looked like a good place. I was particularly impressed with Stephanie, the lady who runs the place, and I also talked to several other staff there. It's top-notch as far as I can tell. They were serving everybody when we arrived. We didn't eat there, but it looked pretty darn good. I was impressed. I liked everything about it.

Brookdale Burlington Memory Care is excellent, but the whole area is spread out. I like them because of the longevity of their staff there. It was very clean. They had an excellent sanitation rating. The rooms were very clean, nice, and a good size. They also have several beautiful outdoor spaces that their guests or residents could go to. A lot of the area was carpeted. I liked the dining area. I liked the lady that took me around. She was very nice and very open about everything. My negative thing about that is it was a much bigger unit, but the positive thing is that the memory care area is a completely separate unit. It is not connected to assisted living or anything. It is a separate building, which is good. I'm into a smaller unit where it's easier to keep an eye on all the patients. For me, it was a little bit too large, and that's not a negative. It's my own personal preference. It was a very nice facility, and they give a Veterans discount. You get several hundred dollars off. My father was in World War II, so my mother would have qualified for that.

We chose Brookdale Burlington, and my friend has only been there for two months. She started off in assisted living. She fell and broke her hip, and they took her to the hospital immediately. She was in the hospital for about two weeks. Then she was moved to a skilled nursing facility in Greensborough. Once they released her, she went back to Brookdale, but they put her in memory care, and quite frankly, I truly believe that she needed to be in memory care. They have a lot of hands-on responsibilities with their residents. They're very kind. The administration and the nursing staff is very good, and I have not met a person at Brookdale I did not like or who did not respond to a request. I am her POA; therefore, I'm looking after her, and they have done everything they possibly can to make her living better. They do have a program director, and they have music programs. They bring in musical artists to entertain the residents. They take the residents out to different restaurants. They take them out to different things that go on in the community, but the residents do not have to go if they choose not to; it's not something that's required. They have a say in this place. If somebody is really upset, they can take them over and say, "Would you like to help me fold these clothes up?" if that helps the resident. If they want to hear a story book, they can hear that. If they want to go to a church service, they can do that. So they have lots of opportunities for the residents there to take advantage of. It seems like they have like eight per day, and residents can come and go as they please. They don't have to do these, but it's there for them if they choose. The program coordinator is very, very good. She understands memory care, dementia, and Alzheimer's. The room is a nice size for one person, and the room my friend is in has a huge bathroom. Of course, they cannot have a shower there in memory care. It's big enough to put a wheelchair inside, and then you can still get out of the wheelchair and do what you need to do. There are two closets there, and then the rest of the room has a window so that you can look out. The door opens to a little inner court. It's very comfortable, my friend likes it, and she can move around in it without fear of falling or anything like that. I've not eaten any of the food. I've just walked in a couple of times when they were eating. They are served in two dining rooms. One dining room is for a higher level of memory care, and the other one is for a lower level, where some of the people have to be fed. So they do divide them up, but if, for instance, her birthday came up, instead of just getting cupcakes for the one side of the room, they would have cupcakes for everybody. I thought that was very special, that they would think to include all of the residents and not try to separate them. I just thought that it was really good that they did that. The food smelled good. My friend has not complained, and she's a top-notch chef herself. She has appreciated the food.

I went to see the memory care unit of Brookdale Burlington. The welcoming by the staff was great. They offered me a pamphlet of information on the cost and the application on the process. They gave me a tour that was very informative. I like the staff that was giving me the tour and information. The people that I saw attending dinner in the dining hall seemed to be doing a good job and well under control. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of commotion, people were sitting, chatting and eating. The food looked good and the overall building seemed to be well-kept and clean. They also showed me the laundry room on the premises, they organize a person's belongings by name. A certain person's stuff could go in on a certain day of the week and they'd get it back. The pricing was a little higher, but I still felt that it was not overrated for the building and the services that I saw was being given. It was a huge place, and their pamphlet also talks about their other amenities. I also walked through the bedroom area that they showed me, it was really nice. When you walk in it has a beautiful grand entrance, and it's well maintained and kept up. Even the space where two people that had to be in the same bedroom had adequate space for them. They have a laundry room unit per section, and four laundry rooms to keep the people from waiting and they could keep up with laundry better. In terms of the food, it seems that everybody was enjoying their meals, and the food looked good. The dining was also clean, and there was enough for tenants and those who could handle seating themselves.

Brookdale Burlington was a great place, it was clean, and all the residents looked happy. We went during dinnertime and the food smelled wonderful. Everything was wonderful, even the lady that greeted us was great. We got to see some of the CNAs assisting the residents at dinner. It looked great. It's located close to a lot of restaurants, there's a Walgreen's close by, there's a mall within five miles and also an outlet center. It's perfect. We saw a double room and it was clean and a good size.

Brookdale Burlington also had a memory care unit. For someone who I needed what I called lots of facilities or for those with Alzheimer’s who could wander away in the neighborhood or in the streets. It was very discreet. They would never know that they were actually in a facility. They could not just go out the door, and walked out. They really had nice facilities as far as outdoors and things like that. They had flower gardens, and vegetable gardens. Things were quiet; terrain, and everything. My husband in particular liked to plant, and water flowers. They had bowling teams. They went to different activities, parks, and do different things. They had staff that took care of them that was well-trained. The rooms had windows where they could see out. It was really bright, and cheery.
