I went to Brookdale Coeur d'Alene. It was very nice and the gal that showed me around was very nice. It's an old building. I don't know the age of the building, but it was formerly a hotel or a motel she told me that they converted, so it's been there some time. Naturally, the size of the rooms and everything was limited by the size of the building that was already in existence before they bought it. I think that limited some of the amenities as opposed to a newer facility, but what they had there was very nice. The residential part that I would move into and then a place where people were less mobile (some of them were in wheelchairs and some were walking around but needed some assistance) was open where they were all intermixed. They could go from one side of the facility to the other, and they all use the same eating facility. That feature of the facility was interesting. They had a dining area. They had units like motel rooms that were private and separate from the more apartment-type units, so that was kind of different. The staff was very nice.

I visited Brookdale Coeur d'Alene. I saw the food was very good. The tour was very helpful. They were very nice. It was clean, its just an older building and that was the downside. The staff who gave me the tour was excellent, very helpful, and very nice. They would take care of the needs of my dad, and they did have senior activities. The day I was there, they had a petting zoo, which was kind of nice. I just went and looked at the menu and saw some of the food that was being served. I did not taste it, but it just looked like they'd done a great job with it.

I liked that Brookdale Coeur d'Alene was a smaller facility. The staff seemed friendly. The thing I didn't like about it was that the facility seemed like it needed some updating. There were some noticeable odors when you walked in. They have some activities. I usually try to ask people that live there if they enjoy living there, and the residents seemed friendly and happy as well. Even though their rooms were smaller, their price did not reflect the smaller rooms. The staff was great.

I loved Brookdale Coeur d'Alene. My cousin would have been in assisted living, which is what I loved about that place. You couldn't say, 'Oh, they're assisted living or they're independent' because they were all mixed in together. They have this amazing veterans group that meets every Friday, which would have been ideal for my cousin. All the people were just visiting and chatting, I was very, very impressed with this place, and the cleanliness, they were on top of it. The room was small, but I think it was a decent-sized room about what my cousin has now, it just didn't have as big a closet. I thought it was a very nice-sized room. It had little appliances that my cousin could have his own drinks in his fridge or whatever, and it was just a small fridge. We talked with the sales gal and asked lots of questions, and she answered them well. It just made me want to stay there. They were all interacting with the people living there and with each other respectfully and kindly. They treated us that way, too, so I was impressed with the staff. The people seemed clean and that's another nice thing.

Right now, my mom is in Brookdale Coeur d'Alene. The food is not that great, my mom doesn't like it. The management has had a lot of issues with keeping staff and keeping things running smoothly, at least in my eyes. That's what I see. Some of their policies are not what I think they should be. They keep it clean and it's a nice-looking place. The staff is pretty nice, it's just the lack of staff that's the problem. They have an adequate amount of activities for the residents to do, they offer shopping trips to the casino, bingo, and Bible study, and they have sit and be fit kinda exercise class. They have space for people to have meetings or do crafts.

We chose Brookdale Coeur d'Alene for my parents. It is veterans friendly. It has a very cozy, homey-feel instead of resort-ish. We looked at both assisted living and independent living. It was nice. They were very connected, but yet they were separate, so it felt like it was in the same community. The apartment was not furnished, but it was nice because there was a kitchenette. It had kind of a little kitchen-dining room area outside of the living space. We were looking at one-bedrooms. It was a nice setup because it had a bigger kitchen area than some of the others. The staff has been very helpful and has followed up. They continue to be very helpful. The food was good. It is closer to home-cooked than restaurant-style, which is nice. They have a couple different outdoor areas. They have an interior courtyard that is more or less attached to the assisted living side. There is a big greenbelt that surrounds the other rooms.

I did a tour of Brookdale Coeur d'Alene. My mother is looking for something that is probably more social than this facility. It is strictly a room, which is the size of a hospital bedroom with a half bath, then you go down the hall to take your showers. It's more care than she was looking for, and more people were in further mental decline than she. They had a courtyard and a salon They have food and a few activities like bingo. It was set up with just a small bedroom and a half bath in most of the rooms. One or two rooms had a shower. There is no kitchenette and no separate living area. It was kind of dark, and it just seemed kind of dreary and sad. But it was a completely different level of care than what we were looking for.

I visited Brookdale Coeur d'Alene. They were very nice and the facility was very nice. They just didn't have availability for my dad at this time. It looked like they had activities going on. There's a lot of staff around and they were very kind and helpful. The lady in the office was quite informative. They were working on things. They didn't have rooms available because they weren't fixed.
