We always choose the Life Care Center of Punta Gorda for my wife’s recovery needs. The rooms are spacious and immaculate. The food is fresh and a served hot. The staff is professional and courteous. While nobody wants to be in rehab, we are confident my wife will have a great experience on the road to recovery every time.

Facility is beautiful but staffing is terrible. My grandmother who has dementia was transferred there from the hospital. It was a 3 day ordeal to even get a phone placed in her room so I could talk to her regularly. You have to make an appointment for visits, but the one person in the facility who can make the appointments spends days at a time away from her desk, which means even though I live 5 minutes away I am unable to visit on a regular basis. I have been calling several times a day for almost a week and every time I get transferred to the same voice mail message. I don’t believe it is any one staff member’s fault as they all seem to be attempting to do several people’s jobs at once. It is a deceptively bad facility as it appears to be very nice from the outside until you experience how it is actually managed and run. Do not send your relatives here unless you plan on never seeing or speaking to them ever again.

I have to say that the care my wife received was excellent . The staff were there for her and kept her free of pain. This made her end of life very peaceful and helped me at the most difficult time of my life. The caring was all a person could hope for. Thank you all all my love to your staff.

Horrible!!!!! I would have given no stars but wouldn’t let me! In my opinion they should not be taking care of anyone’s loved ones. My father went in from the hospital to recover and never made it home alive! In my opinion it’s all about poor staffing and profits! It may look great but I wish we had looked deeper!!!!
what's with that

Tried to get my mother first into assisted living, but was told she could not be admitted until she had Medicaid. Given a phone number of agency to help get Medicaid. Called and was told mom had to be placed in the facility before they could start paperwork. Called facility back and was told to bring mom's paperwork, and they would handle it. Gave them the paperwork and heard nothing. Went back and got the paperwork. Several months later(now) mom was in the hospital and needed to be placed in a nursing home. Life care refused her because she was too much work(and still didn't have Medicaid). I didn't realize there was criteria for how sick one had to be, it not be, to enter a NURSING home. My mother has been met with nothing but total disregard by this facility, where money is the goal, not patients.

Our parents met when they were 15 years old and have been together ever since. They did everything together, including being diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer’s. They were in Assisted Living together for a time but it was clear they needed a nursing home. When Dad had a mild heart attack he was discharged to Life Care in Punta Gorda. Mom was to move into a room on the same floor the following week. We moved Mom in and stayed with her for an hour or so then left to clean out her room at assisted living. Because of her condition she became disoriented and afraid. She tried to leave via the staircase and struck out at one of the staff members when they tried to stop her. She was 85 years old, 5’2” and 110 pounds. We received a call saying that Life Care had called an ambulance because they couldn’t handle her. She was sent to Bayfront Hospital and quickly involuntarily committed to Riverside Behavioral Center. The staff at Riverside is excellent and knows how to care for dementia patients but this is no place you want your parent to be. Life Care insisted that she was a flight risk and would need to be in the locked memory care unit which was full. In three months they "claimed" they didn’t have an opening. We started looking for an alternative but the dirty little secret is that once you’ve been at Riverside, nobody wants to take you in. We are so grateful to Signature Health Care of Port Charlotte who gave Mom a chance. She’s been there now for seven months. In that time she has never been violent or tried to leave the facility. Because the staff at Life Care was unwilling or unable to deal with a frightened, confused patient my parents were separated, for the first time ever, on Valentine’s Day, their 67th Wedding Anniversary, Mom’s birthday and Mother’s Day. Dad passed away in the spring and Mom never got to say goodbye. We will never forgive them.

I heard this facility is a lot better than others in our area. My mom has been here for seven years now. I know the place pretty well since I go there daily. I attend the patient care meetings and food committee meetings. They are just that, meetings, no one hears you or listens. Changes are not made. The food is terrible most of the time. Why this can't be corrected I don't know. Why serve roast beef, chicken, or turkey if it's so tough you can't cut it or chew it. The waste is incredible. They do have some staff that take pride in what they do and they do it well. Unfortunately, they have to work twice as hard to cover for the ones that do very little. They could use a good training program, they could be familiar to the residents needs. OK I'm done. They do have an excellent rehab facility and the staff is highly trained.
