Arbor Terrace is the third (3rd) facility in which my brother has been a resident since March 2019. Forget the price…..care and competence are the essential elements of successful life when choosing care for a loved one. I asked him why he thought he was “doing better” here, he replied, “They like me here.” The facility is immaculate!!!! Every staff member knows your name and addresses you as such with a smile and always a pleasant comment. Care is continual…..always someone within a few steps to assist in his “neighborhood”. The facility is rather small and in a quite neighborhood tucked away with trees surrounding it with garden, Koi pond! The rooms are more than adequate….I would say spacious compared to other (more expensive) facilities in this area. As you can tell, I am pleased as a “caretaker” and “resident.

I visited this facility

We visited Arbor Terrace of Athens, and it was very nice. They were friendly, there were just a lot of restrictions due to COVID, but it was nice. It still kind of has an institutional feel to it. It was nice, but it was not outstanding. They were not able to do activities at the time we were there because of COVID, and the dining room was not in use. They had to eat in their rooms, but I think things have changed at this point. The room was nice, it was very small, and I would have to get a two-bedroom there because it was just like a studio, and I did not like that part. The room was was clean, modern, and new. I really liked the salesperson; she was very sweet. She returned my texts quickly, answered all my questions, and followed up with me. They did an assessment of my parents' health. They got back with me on that, and I have all the numbers. After all this, I ended up liking another one better because it has more of a family feel. The Arbor Terrace has lots of traffic in the area, and it just seemed more like a nursing home feel.

I visited this facility

Arbor Terrace was lovely, very gracious, and sort of reminded me of a big grand sorority house with older women. The room was like a big fabulous hotel suite. There was a studio with a seating area, but there was no sink in the room and you would have to go to the bathroom. However, given that my mother is in a wheelchair, that presented an extra set of effort. I like the staff and the physical therapist that is on staff is really good. The assisted living and the independent living are not segregated, so it just depends on what kind of room you want. They have a large, nice area that resembles a hotel room, but it doesn't have a kitchenette, which is perceived as a downside by my mother. It was lovely and very well decorated with very soothing colors. The mood was very peaceful. It's a smaller facility and their dining room is small, too. They have a beautiful covered porch on the back with awnings and nice chairs where they can sit outside but not directly in the sun. They have large, industrial ceiling fans and they have a lovely little garden with paved paths that are basically trip-proof and wide enough for wheelchairs or walkers, which is great. They have a koi pond with a waterfall, so you can sit out there and just listen to the water. They also have different kinds of bird feeders outside. It is a peaceful little oasis in the back. It's not a new facility but it is beautifully maintained. I was also very impressed with the staff. They genuinely wanted things to go smoothly.

I visited this facility

We visited Arbor Terrace of Athens for my mom. The tour was very good, and the staff were very good. The facility was very nice, warm, and welcoming. The rooms are enough, but the only drawback was in Arbor Terrace their little kitchenettes do not have a separate sink to use. She has to use the bathroom sink if she wants to make a cup of coffee, for instance. They have an activity room, plenty of outdoor space, a koi pond, and things like that so they could sit outside. They have paved walkways and that kind of thing; it was very nice. They have crafts, bingo, music, therapy, and they do day trips and things like that, but with COVID they are trying to get that started again.

Provider Response

Abbie, we're glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. Your recommendation means so much to us and we're so happy to have earned it. Thank you for taking the time to let the world know about your positive experience. Have a great day!

Arbor Terrace was too expensive. The physical therapist didn't have enough space and exercise equipment, and they didn't have enough activities. The food was not catered toward her as a vegetarian. They didn't do a good job cleaning my step-mother's room.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Facility has changed significantly in the last 1-2 years. Significant turnover in staff, far less caregivers, no laundry person, less nurses, residents less engaged and do not seem happy. My loved one has fallen on two occasions due to lack of attention. Far less caring than it used to be. My loved one doesn't like the food. There is more fresh food than a few years ago - it was mostly canned. Have a few meals before you commit.

I visited this facility

We had visited Arbor Terrace. The people were comfortable. The staff was really good. They were gentle and they really seemed to really care about the people living there. It was very nice and I thought it was really good. We saw some people having lunch, and the lunch seemed nice. We were given a really good tour. My husband asked a couple of questions and the staff was able to respond. The place was clean, and I felt really comfortable.

I visited this facility

We stopped by Arbor Terrace, and it seemed like a nice place. It was clean. You don't smell bad odors, and everything was nice. However, the rooms were smaller than what my father had. It was more like a school situation. They had tiled floors and a communal table and things like that. Everybody seemed to be professional and pretty good people. It was in the right location as far as proximity to me.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

This is an excellent facility (Home) for ALZ residents. The staff is caring, friendly, and long term. They have specific stages that loved ones are placed into. This is our 3rd facility for our father and we wish it had been the first.
