Grand Living at Citrus Hills is excellent, but there's no place outside to go out and sit with trees and grass and things like that. They don't pay for their help very well. They're always taking the night off and are just not coming in. It's not that they aren't lovely when they're here, but it makes it very hard when there are 300 apartments here. You get three meals a day, but at this point at least, I'm still capable of making our own food. So I pay for their food and I pay for my own on top of it. You have to go down to the cafeteria, but if you want your meals up in your apartment, they charge you $12.50. That's per meal and that adds up mighty quickly. They have all kinds of activities. They have physical therapy, mahjong, and movies. The staff is fine. It's a lovely place. It is and I have an apartment with two bedrooms, two baths, and an area to live in. The layout is difficult, but the apartment itself gets enough room for us. My husband and I brought the things that were important to us from our home. So that is about as good as you're going to get anywhere. It's well taken care of. It's clean. We have housekeeping once a week. My biggest concern is just that I'm bored. Although there's a swimming pool, I'm not up to doing it and I wish there was something else I could do that I enjoy. They usually do drawings, which I'd be interested in, but whoever was teaching the class has flipped. There are watercolors, but I don't enjoy them. I tried mahjong games for the fun of it, but to me, it just doesn't give me any sense of being at home. The good part is you can have a dog, but if you do, they charge you just to watch/walk your dog. That's $300 per month for one time a day.

My parents are in Grand Living at Citrus Hills. The staff is very attentive. All of their departments are very complete. They have doctors, professional nurses, and attendants. The building and grounds are spectacular. It has a swimming pool, putting green, three restaurant types, a 250-seat theater, Symphony Orchestra that practices there Friday evenings occasionally, many different venues, libraries, game rooms, and a large gymnasium. They have a full-time chef for three meals a day. The rooms that we acquired were large, spacious, and included a full kitchen. It's an assisted living facility. They're escorted to meals by a wheelchair. I've had three encounters there with food and it was all very nice. They have numerous activities.

Grand Living in Hernando was beautiful, but you're stuck there. Your whole life is in the building. I liked that they had three different restaurants you can choose from and at different times. The building itself was beautiful. The apartment was very nice, but you're in the middle of nowhere. The staff was wonderful. The food was very good.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was at Grand Living at Citrus Hills. It's quite a large chain. They have them scattered all around (at least in Florida), and I liked it very much. My biggest problem was the fact that they had the assisted and independent all living in the same floors. They were just mixed up all the time. It was not quite as comfortable. It's better to be separate. They probably had at least as many assisted as they did independent, but they were all together. They ate together, and they did all the activities together. Everything was together. The room was very similar to the one I have now, except that it did not have a furnished kitchen. It just had a refrigerator and a microwave convection oven. It was so confusing, so I didn't use it at all. Otherwise, the room was about the same size and about the same floor plan. The activities were good. The physical fitness was very good. We had a very good director. Most of the time I was there, it was Covid. We were restricted much of the time. We would have to stay in our rooms anywhere from one to two weeks if we're exposed to anything. They had to take our temperatures before every meal. They had to do it, but it was a very uptight situation because we couldn't mingle at all. We had to stay separate. We had to eat in our rooms for about six months. They brought our food to us in our apartment in Styrofoam. I got there, and then two months later was when Covid started. They had three different dining areas, and they were good. I cannot really compliment the food, but I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that everything had to be turned upside down to make room to do the to-go meals. They didn't have a kitchen big enough to prepare them. They had to do it in the dining room and use make makeshift dining room tables for the working area. Everybody (including the residents) was uptight because of COVID. You couldn't mingle. You couldn't go outside. You couldn't go anywhere. You couldn't have any guests whatsoever. None of us saw any of our children or our family. It was the same everywhere, I think. I had a daughter that lived 10 minutes from me, and I never did see her the whole time inside. I could just look out the window and see her. I couldn't go to her house; she couldn't come to mine. It was a good experience under the circumstances. I did some activities, but they had to cancel most of them because we couldn't mingle. They had to keep everybody separate 6 feet and all that kind of thing. They didn't have any of rooms open where they had crafts or that kind of thing: no games or bingo. We couldn't have any of that kind of thing. They just had to cancel everything like that. They had church services they would cancel. Music had stopped because they couldn't do it outside because it was too cold in the winter. In the summertime, you couldn't put many people in the room more than just a couple for fear of being contagious. They did the best they could under the circumstances. The staff was pretty good.

Grand Living at Citrus Hills is a very good facility, and they are very good to work with. However, my father has severe dementia, and he is beyond their care. He needs a couple of people to help him and more nursing care than they can handle. My father has been there for two-and-a-half years now. Because I am three-and-a-half hours away, I asked the staff to please let me know every time something happens -- like if he falls or if he gets new medications -- and they always have, so they have been very helpful and accommodating. My father has a big studio apartment where you could put a bed, a recliner chair, a TV stand, a bathroom, and a closet. I have eaten there a few times, and the food is pretty good. In the memory care, they have two dining areas, a little café, and a full dining room where you have to sign up and get a little bit more dressed up for. They also have activities going on all day, from memory games to cards to sing-a-longs and to movies. They always keep him active. The memory care is very clean, the nurses are very attentive, and they are always on top of everything. They are very careful, especially with COVID, but it's understandable that they do what they have to do to keep their patients safe.

I visited this facility

Grand Living at Citrus Hills was a beautiful place. It's almost five-stars. It's very, very nice. I was toured by a salesperson, and it was a great tour. We got to see an apartment and all the facilities. It was a one-bedroom apartment and pretty much brand new. It had a beautiful kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, a laundry area, and it was very spacious. They also had a theater, a bar, or social area where you can have drinks and have a community kind of hang out. There were two or three restaurants, an exercise room, a pool, and pretty much everything you'd want in an assisted living environment. I think it's really one of the nicest ones around, but it's a large community, and it would not work out for my dad, he would get lost. There were a lot of long hallways where you couldn't quite know where you were.

Grand Living at Citrus Hills is absolutely spectacular, beautiful, and phenomenal. The staff is amazing and there's not a person that works there who doesn't say hello. It's unbelievable compared to the place where my mom was. My mom is in their memory care unit. The rooms are big, airy, and clean. They have what they call a memory box, which is a big built-in shelf with bookcases where you can put things for them to remember from their past, which is nice. The room also has a refrigerator, and a built-in shower chair. I eat there all the time with my mom and you can eat a pork loin, which melts in your mouth; you don't even have to chew it, that's good. I'm actually paying less there than the place where she was at. My mom has dementia, but when I went to see her yesterday, she actually used a full sentence when she talked to me for the first time in a year and a half, and she's only been there for a week. They have a Michelin chef and what's nice is they have choices of five appetizers, three different entrees, salads, and soups. The food is so good and I eat when I go there because it's like being on a cruise. I took Mom to one of the activities and she wouldn't even bother to hold a pencil in her hand, but I noticed one of the volunteers walked over to Mom, put the pencil in her hand, wrapped her hand around Mom's hand, and helped her color. They just engaged them and help them do it, talk to them, and encourage them. They've constantly got things going on for them, which is really good. They even have a swimming pool with a lift, so that if you're in a wheelchair, you can put them on that and put them in the pool. The grand living room is phenomenal, and they have a piano, a real movie theater, a spa, a gym, hair salon, barbeque area, the rooms are double the size of the rooms where my mom used to live, and I'm only paying $4,900.

Grand Living at Citrus Hills is top of the line. It's just one year old so it's almost brand new and absolutely stunning. It has an extremely good quality of restaurants. It has three different ones for morning, noon, and night. The food is excellent. You can order what you want off the menus. It has all the available facilities for working out and they have a coach to help you do exercises. They have a theater that will seat 125 people. They have shows periodically almost once a month, and they have somebody come in there and do performances. They have a good extreme number of various shapes, sizes, and rooms that people would use, from 1,200 square feet down to 600 square feet, so there's excellent diversity of rooms and accommodations. They don't have restrictions on keeping you there for each year at a time. You can go on a monthly rental basis. They have healthcare for their people and an on-duty nurse. Their cost is about the same as everybody else's. The staff have all been very gracious and we don't even belong to them, yet they let us cme and see their shows and occasionally sit with our friends who are there for lunch and dinner. They're very open to outsiders coming in and seeing what their facility can and can't do. There are extra wide corridors and the reason for that is they have paintings on the walls, and you can walk three or four abreast. It gives it a more spacious feeling so you don't feel like you're enclosed as you walk through the corridors.

I visited this facility

We live in NY and while visiting mom during August, went to visit Grand Living plus 3 other local places. TGrand Living had been open one month. Mom is 86, and still independent but she fell twice this year and we are concerned about her living alone. We loved Grand Living. Its like me having mom live at the Ritz Carlton and there is nothing better as all of the wonderful amenities are included! She will be in a one bedroom with a large living room and bedroom. The Staff are so professional and well spoken. There is even a gym where there is a full time trainer and mom is looking forward to working on balance and taking some classes in the pool. So many opportunities to make new friends. Happy for mom. What a wonderful place for mom to spend her golden years. We know she's in good hands. It's hard for us, living so far away. Thank you Grand Living.
