I am/was a resident of this facility
Nurses, caregivers and staff were wonderful! Rehab facilities located conveniently downstairs. I think all the therapists were great! Close to home and easy access.

I chose Hillside because of their reputation of kindness and compassion. The nursing staff and social workers are very professional and competent. There is a spirit of compassion and accountability. We saw a dramatic increase in his well-being at Hillside.

My mom was moving into Salt Lake City, and Hillside Rehabilitation Center was the place we found for her. The room was OK, but there was a problem there. It was old at that time -- they actually started refurbishing it when we were leaving -- but at that time it was getting old, and then they had a lot of people with dementia and Alzheimer's, so thoe patients would kind of just walk around and come into my mom's room unannounced, and she didn't like that. When she moved there, she wasn't sharing a room, and then I think that they were going to insist that she did, and she did not sleep well. That did not work well because the woman she was with was loud, and it was really hurting her sleep. I ate there; the food was fine -- I didn't have any problems with the food. I know they had buses that could take people places every day depending on what the tenants wanted, which could be shopping, churches, or different outside activities. I know they were doing physical therapy like voice therapy -- which my mom needed -- and different things. They seemed to take care of their people pretty well.

Administration and onsite residential social worker has really treated my family badly. Having problems with them realeasing medical records. Nurses are not professional and seem to break the boundaries of professional and freind. Very minimal line of sight from staff to patient. Staff seemed unable to handle crisis situations and did not seem to be making reports.

I think the staff, for the most part, really care about the residents, but they're sadly outnumbered and have a lot of work to do. The worst part about this facility is that it is in an old building, which has since been remodeled somewhat. However, the lights and air conditioning is unimpressive. The hallways are dark and gloomy. I actually witnessed a resident tripping in the hall once, whether that was from the lack of light or not, it certainly doesn't look good. He didn't fall, but it was a close thing. As for the air conditioning, or lack of, it rarely works correctly, which is a misery to the residents. During the summer they look sweaty and miserable, without the energy or will to do anything but sit in front of the communal television set. The activities are certainly severely limited and far between. The staff seems to try, but basic necessities such as basic lighting and air conditioning certainly work against them.
