I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was at Givens Health Center. Although they have a beautiful community, the rehab facilities were nowhere near up to par as the others. It's not large enough and the equipment that they have there is very minimal. There's a lot of people living there in addition to people rehabbing there, and I would have to give them high marks for the activities they had. They brought people in to play the piano. They did bingo and they had card games. Most of the people that were in there were quite elderly. I ate dinner there a couple of times when my husband was there and it was very, very good food, something that you would get in the restaurant. They took them to rehab every day, but I felt that the rehab facility was so tiny, and there were so many people using it. I wasn't happy with the rehab, but the staff was very good. The other thing I liked about it was, if you got hungry in between meals, there was a very large menu of small snacks that people could choose to have brought to your room, everything from cookies, to Jell-O, to pie, to desserts, to ice cream. They had that 24 hours a day, which I thought was really good, because sometimes people wake up in the middle of the night and they can't sleep. You can just call the nurse and tell them to bring you some Jell-O or a candy bar or whatever. The facility was well cared for. There were lots of things to do for people that were staying there. They had church available and entertainment coming in. It has a huge retirement community attached to that and covers many acres of grounds. They are beautiful over there.

The online documentation and booklets and website give a different dimension of the health center. It is a dirty facility and the communication is lacking. When I went to visit my family member, he was soiled and was like that for quite some time and the toilet was covered in feces. When you try to call a nurse, you cannot get anyone. I was told to "not call the staff" because "they are busy." How do I get an update then? I was also told weekly meetings would occur, and that was incorrect. Givens should focus more on the residents and their mission statement on the website, instead of nickel and dime the residents. For the price, I feel it does not meet a standard of care and communication that a business should maintain.

Our experience with Givens Health Center was disappointing; well below what the better rating had us anticipating. The facility and amenities were plenty nice enough and the floor level care was mostly adequate for the basics. However, our mother (unable to talk) needed an individualized Care Plan, like is promised in their brochures and policies. But we were, in totality, denied any influence into the Care Plan, and denied requested Care Plan meetings to collaborate on better approach options to improve Mom’s quality of life. ZERO of our very reasonable adaptations or additions requested (or any alternative that staff might have presented) was ever adopted. Once the pandemic related restrictions went into effect, and we could not personally support the care she needed, her wellbeing and alertness fell quickly. We saw disturbing reports (from requested medical records), lost all confidence that our mom’s needs were being meet, and decided to bring her home rather quickly when we were notified she was deteriorating (in bad shape and severely dehydrated). In the end, we determined that the leadership who had the ability to make different/better choices to support mom’s quality of life, for some dishonorable reason (maybe too arrogant or too controlling) would not honor the collaboration promise. Buyer Beware!

My husband stayed at Givens Health Center, and it was absolutely horrible. He was an Alzheimer's patient. He peed on the floor, but they didn't clean it up; they didn't have time, and they yelled at him. They're absolutely irresponsible when it came to sanitation and health. His room was always a mess, and his bell and remote were always on the floor.

This nursing home is a smaller one and it was a great experience for us as a family. We did not have to worry about our family member or wonder if they were really being taken care of here. The nurses were all so sweet to all of us and if we had a question about anything, they got answers for us quickly. They have a great rehab program that do exercises with the patients that they actually enjoy. We recommend this facility to others.
