Reviews of Commonwealth Senior Living at the West End
Niece of 4 residents December 11, 2016
I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
I have had 4 family members live here over the past 10 years:
2 uncles (brothers) 7 years, now deceased 1 aunt 5 years, now deceased 1 more aunt, 2 years and still there and loving every minute of it.
I think this speaks volumes of our family's opinion of and love for Commonwealth Assisted Living (formerly Meadow Glen). The daily care, cleaning, laundry, food, van trips, entertainment, hair salon - everything here is top notch. The most important thing is of course the employees, and I cannot ever say enough wonderful things about the loving, caring workers. They look out for the individual, making sure they come to meals and games. When I was there a few weeks ago, the bus driver came back from the bus to find my aunt "Aren't you coming with us?" Auntie decided she'd rather visit me, but I was impressed by the interest this worker showed. The food is delicious, the dining room is homey and beautiful. I probably sound like a public relations person, but I'm not - I'm just a very happy and satisfied family member. Five stars for Commonwealth Assisted Living!

I visited this facility
I went to Commonwealth, and everyone I talked to was really nice. I met a lot of the clients; they were up and about, rolling around, and said that they liked it there. They were adding on rooms that were bigger than their older rooms, but their older rooms were still nice and cozy 1-bedrooms. They seemed competent, and everybody looked happy there. The day I went, they had someone come with animals, and there were monkeys and birds they were putting in a van. It's a very pretty building. It's on a busy road, but I think it's far away from traffic, and they had very nice grounds. Everything was clean, painted, and looked well-kept with flowers outside. They were very expensive, and much more expensive than the others we looked at.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My mom has been in Commonwealth Assisted Living at the West End for 2 years now. It is a very clean and very nice. The people are very good and caring. She has a private room, and it has a good amount of space. She was able to take some her stuff with her. The food is very good. It is personalized and very well done.
On behalf of Commonwealth Assisted Living at the West End, I would like to thank you for this review and the kind words. It is an honor to have your mom as a resident and we appreciate that you have entrusted her care to us. Providing our residents and their families with high-quality care, dignity, respect, and compassion is our top priority. Thank you again for sharing your experience! – Leslie Jones, Executive Director, Commonwealth Assisted Living at the West End

Friend or relative of resident
When my sister was unable to live on her own, she decided to move to Meadow Glen, an assisted living community located in the West End of Richmond, Virginia. This was the perfect facility for her, since it was small, intimate and had a home-like atmosphere with a touch of southern hospitality. With a maximum of 48 residents, Meadow Glen's care staff quickly became familiar with my sister's routine and preferences. Although it was difficult for her to give up her independence, she became grateful for the care and concern that Meadow Glen provided.
The facility has a central dining room that is the focal point of both meals and activities. There is also a library, a beauty salon, a TV room and two small outdoor patios where residents may relax and visit. Each apartment is spacious (you can fit a double bed, comfortable easy chair, a dresser and chest of drawers) and is ready for personalization. There is a large, handicap accessible bathroom and a closet that has ample room for clothes and other belongings.
The monthly fee is fairly pricey and there is an extra charge for more intense care. But Meadow Glen is one of the few assisted living facilities where you feel like a person and not just a number. Although there are always one or two aides who could stand to have a personality adjustment, most of the helpers are sincerely interested in your well-being.
The monthly fee includes all meals, laundry, housekeeping services, daily activities, medication management, transportation to doctor appointments and the peace of mind that you're living a gracious lifestyle with just the right amount of extra support you need.
