Our tour of Independence Village of Des Moines showed us what a nice facility this would be for our father. The Community Specialist presented information on what activities were available for the residents. She then took us on a tour of the facility and three available apartments which gave us an idea of the size. The dining area and the areas where the residents could gather was spacious and comfortable.

I have visited the Des Moines location now several times. I will be moving my dad into this facility in a few weeks. The entire facility is in immaculate condition. The apartment my dad will be in is very clean, fresh paint and carpet and has a great view of the beautiful courtyard. There are also many activities going on during the week if one so chooses to participate. I have met several staff members who are very friendly and answered all of my questions in a very good way. Alese did an excellent job with the tour and also was able to answer all of my families questions. My dad really took a liking to her right from the start. I have not eaten the food yet but the kitchen and dining area are very clean and all the residents seemed very happy as they gathered for meals. The food menus looked very good with variety and several choices for each meal. My dad is very excited to move in.

We went to Independence Village of Des Moines. I liked the apartment. It was open and airy but right on a major street. And if you went outside to sit on the veranda, it would be a lot of traffic and noise. This was the apartment that they had available for us. But inside you couldn't hear the noise just outside. The meals sounded good. But I didn't think we were ready yet to give up all the cooking and everything because the apartment didn't have any facilities for cooking. There was a tiny refrigerator where you could put drinks or something, but that was it. There was no stove or sink or anything. They could do your laundry and housekeeping if you want. They clean the apartment once every two weeks.

I toured Independence Village of Des Moines. They had remodeled the dining area and the entryway, but they hadn't finished the apartments. It's outdated. The other downfall was the garages were not attached. They weren't underground, and they weren't attached to the building in any way. So in winter time, you'd have to trudge across the parking way to get to the garage. The staff was fine. We didn't have a lot of interaction with them, but those that we did, showed us a staff person that does cleaning and stuff. She'd been there for like 10 or 15 years. I think the staff was excellent.

My father has moved in. His experience has been great. Everybody that works there is so kind and helpful. The other residents are really nice. It is just a great environment. The room is very nice. It is perfect for him. He has a small dog, and he has a one-bedroom. It is just the perfect size for him. It is very clean and very nice. The staff is very nice and helpful. I would highly recommend them. Their food is very good. I love the openness of dining area, and it is very inviting. My dad has talked to people. He likes to play cards. He is going to try to get coordinated to play with a card group and join some activities.

The person who toured me around was real nice, very thorough, and empathetic towards showing me what I needed to see. She took me to a studio apartment, which was what I wanted, and it was real nice. I liked the way it was laid out. It felt very roomy even though everything was basically in one room. It's got a nice kitchenette, bathroom, and a nice patio that could at least accommodate three or four chairs. It's in a wooded area, so it looked out onto a forest-like situation, which gave it a nice view. They have a fitness room (where I saw a girl helping out a couple of other residents with certain exercises), an area with a pool table and a television (where they could play video games, play cards, or board games), and then the activity room (where they have group activities like bingo and so on). The dining area had a piano, which was nice. The menu looked real good. It was first class dining. It felt like you would be staying in a hotel. They have excellent staff that were friendly and helpful.

It was okay but the whole thing was not a good location for me to visit mom. It was much older but it was very stately. It was nice and it was comfortable. The staff seemed very nice too.

We toured here. It was very nice, the rooms were very clean, and the people were very nice. I do think we ate there that day, and it was very nice. It's in a great location. It was part of our preliminary searches, but we just aren't ready to move yet. I would recommend looking into it. The people that were living there seemed to be happy with it.

It was an excellent, warm, comfortable place. The dining area was nice and very pleasant. The food was excellent. The selection was great. They had all kinds of activities and games, like Wii bowling and throwing a beanbag across the room; they were having a tournament and everybody was headed down there for it. They had a library, a very nice craft activities room, and a very nice kitchen that you can use if you want to bake cookies or do something fun for yourself. It was very nice. There were lots of activities.

I am considering it. I liked that the dining area is easy to get to, they serve three meals a day, and have an open cafeteria style throughout the day, so you can get coffee and fruits until 9:00 p.m. The place seemed pretty clean, and the people that gave the tour were nice.

I liked it and have nothing against it. I am just not ready to have somebody cook all my meals, and wait on me like that. I was in two or three rooms, and I thought they were very nice. They were very friendly downstairs in the lobby. They had coffee, and cookies out. My son had eight of us over, and had a dinner catered in to their private dining-room. Everybody was very friendly. I had dinner there a couple of times, and it was very good. They had entertainment come in. They had cards, games, and exercise. They have just about anything. It was a nice place.

We visited here. They were very friendly, and I liked the facilities a lot. The meal I ate and the staff were good. If I had a little more income, I would be more interested. They had efficiencies and one-bedrooms, which were quite spacious with lots of storage space. I was really pleased with it.

I thought it was wonderful. We didn’t have a lot of time that day, but we did stay for lunch, and it was really good. She told us about the activities, but we didn’t participate in any. The dining room was very nice, the food was excellent, and the menu was very good. Its setting was very nice, pleasant, and very clean.

I am staying here, and I have decided that is where I will be. I will not look any further as I am comfortable here. It’s been four months since I have been here. They offer three meals a day, and we get light housekeeping. Everybody here is friendly. I always have somebody to talk to and do something with. The rooms are spacious. I have one bedroom and a living room. They also provide transportation on shopping or to doctor's appointments.
