Living area is very old and doesn’t appear to have Been updated. They are updating other buildings that are used for recreation. All of the prior buildings have been torn down ready to be rebuilt. Living areas still need to be cleaned up. The lobby in one of the buildings is very dark and dingy and not very clean looking that is where my relative lives. He moved there recently with many promises by the sales people that have yet to be met. The food is not very healthy and Is very Often with barbecue sauce or other type of cream sauces that are extremely unhealthy. They make no considerations for people who are on low sugar and low diets. Everything arrives salted. There are no healthy choices on the menu. Only one meal a day is served.

Rooms are good sized but very dark. All windows have a black film to reduce glare, even the lanai. Lanai has black screens as well as dark vinyl windows. The building is about 35 years and appears never refurbished. You can image, ceilings leak at times, the elevator, which is crucial, often is not operating, carpeting is old and dirty. The lobby is dark and dingy. Furniture in the lobby seems like it is just thrown in. I didn’t see any place to sit in the sun. The dining room was old looking with chairs on wheels which look dangerous. Food was mediocre and service was subpar. I found out the median age is 85 with several residents over 100. Many residents use scooters and walkers and did not appear ’independent’. Assisted living and nursing centers were depressing. They are doing a massive makeover in recreational areas but not updating the living areas. There is a hefty fee to get in as well as monthly rent which is more suitable for a resort and not these old buildings.

We toured the independent living high rises. We were disappointed in the lack of knowledge and indifferent attitudes we encountered as prospective residents. Enter each building to dark, gloomy, dated lobbies. This is where the mail boxes are found. Apartments are roomy and all have access to outside lanais. Kitchens offer all that is needed in a community like this. We were told apartments are “refreshed” with paint and other necessary improvements between residents. Each building has a dining room with a staff of young people serving and busing. Lunches (2) were below average. We each had a salad that was unimpressive (not fresh) and a second time the kitchen was out of bacon so instead of a BLT we had a hot dog. The order came without condiments & sauerkraut that was listed on the menu. Residents are assigned an uncovered parking space. Covered parking costs an additional $80/month. Exorbitant considering the monthly rent/fees. The primary positive about LPS is availability. One resident pointed out that the independent living community at LPS is less than 60 % occupied. Our experience raises questions about management, overall dated mess of the public spaces, poor representation and failure to measure up to the competition. LPS has an 11 month update and expansion underway of their town center common area. A positive that we will return to see.

We toured Lake Port Square. It was a nice community. I only saw a few things, but the rooms were nice, and they had nice activities. It looks nice and clean, but I can't believe it's $3,000 a month. The sales lady was nice. She did tell me all about it, but it stopped when we did a qualifying financial chart there. We would be handling every single penny and more, than we have in Social Security a month.

I visited this facility

I toured Lake Port Square 2 or 3 times. They've got two large apartment buildings for independent living. They've got a meal plan and you can choose from either 1 or 2 meals a day. They have full kitchens, and they range in size from 700 sq ft to 2300 sq ft in terms of the apartments. The problem there, as far as my husband was concerned was the car would have been parked out in a big parking lot as opposed to in this house, we've got a nice garage. However, they did allow scooters. He was then able to move around from an apartment on the first floor up to this floor and the dining hall that way on a scooter. They provide transportation to doctor's appointments. I guess the other negative is the fact that here in this house that I'm living in, I'm able to get in the morning and get my dogs out in our backyard without having to get dressed. I could have stayed there. I was impressed initially with Lake Port Square, They had a full bus of residents weekly that were brought to the church, and in the women's circle group that I went to, they provided transportation for 2 or 3 of the people and they all loved it. So that was my original interest in Lake Port Square. They always had a busload of people coming to all of the concerts. The facility is located on Lake Harris, so they had boating opportunities that the other place didn't have. They had an activity building with good exercise equipment and a nice playing area. One other objection I had was the postal service was located in their activity building which was in a separate building from the apartment buildings. So to get your mail there you go out from one facility into another. I've tried the food three separate times and it's wonderful. The people that we had contact with were exceptionally nice and friendly. It was well-staffed, well-taken care of, and very clean.

We got an apartment here at Lake Port Square. The buildings are about 30 years old. There are some matters that need to be taken care of like carpeting and things like that in the building. But the campus area is very nice, well-kept, and pretty. The dining staff is made up of young people, and a lot of them sometimes don't show up to work, and it delays getting your food and stuff. There are numerous activities, but I don't participate in any activities. They have walking groups and things like step and groove. They do stuff like Wii bowling, they have trips to different places, and they have buses in the morning going for church route. There are different card games, too. The food is relatively good. It is being improved all the time. You got white dinner tables and napkins and things that are nice. On Sundays, they have a buffet. With regards to the staff, some staff members are really good and some are just not so good.

Provider Response

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We take all feedback seriously and will take your feedback back to the team and work on ways to further improve our community and team.

I recently toured this facility and was impressed with the kind and positive interaction I saw between the staff and their patients. These types of places can be hard to be in for people so it was refreshing to see patients with smiles on their faces engaged with different activities and conversation. I did not eat the food, but it looked and smelt food. The facility was clean and the staff was attentive to patients and visitors.

Lake Port Square was fine. It's apartment-style living or independent living and you pay extra if you want a garage if there's any available. The facility was nice. It had provisions for changing into assisted living and a memory care unit. That's basically what we're looking for, a place where we can move from one section to another as we age and use our facilities. Right now, we're independent living. The staff was very pleasant. They gave us a good tour and we had a meal there and saw the dining room and all the facilities in the independent living. They had quite a bit of activities. The cleanliness and the space were good. They had a library, a game room, and all kinds of activities going on and you could start your own if you wanted to. They had trails around where you could walk and cycle. The medical facilities were located adjacent to the apartment buildings.

Provider Response

Nancy, thank you for your kind words and this wonderful review! We hope to be of service to you again in the future. Best wishes, Lake Port Square

Lake Port Square is all apartment-style. The rooms were all coming off of the main hallway, which I was not fond of. Half of the apartment has a lowered ceiling. It gave you a closed feeling when you walked into the room. The person who showed us around was knowledgeable, pleasant, and informed. They had a full kitchen and a laundry room. Every apartment had a screened-in balcony.

The grounds of Lake Port Square were lovely, and the apartments were very, very nice. I have nothing to say but positive things about them; it's just we can't afford it right now. They have everything you would want there; you will be busy. You can either do as much as you want or none. They have an exercise room, a pool, a hot tub, pool tables, and entertainment. It would be my first pick if I could just afford it. I had also been there before with a friend, and the food was wonderful.

I toured Lake Port Square, and everybody was very friendly. The reason why we didn't choose there was because they only offered one type of housing. It was like a hotel, which we were not pleased about. Everything else was wonderful. I would give them a top score for everything.

I live in Lake Port Square. It's phenomenal, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, they keep them up, and the apartments are big. The staff is OK, but the food is lousy, and they only give one meal a day. They have activities, but a lot of them are getting cancelled because COVID is increasing in the area. Today, there's supposed to be karaoke, but they cancelled that. I called once to have my carpet stripped, and the woman who answered the phone there started hollering at me. It was a year before they did anything about my carpet, and that's because I tripped and really hurt myself. It's one person, but you have to go through her to schedule it. A lot of times you have to call maintenance to have something done in your apartment, and then you have to have this lady screaming at you, which is ridiculous. To me, that's overabuse.

I will be moving into Lake Port Square. We chose it because I have two pets, and several places that I called said they only allow one so then I'd have to get rid of one of them. Secondly, the place has got a 76-acre lake. They're refurbishing my room with new carpet, new flooring, new countertops, and new paint. They will temporarily put me up in a furnished room until the other one is done. I've seen the assisted living. I can still travel and I can leave every day. Laundry is free. And if maintenance comes up and helps me do something, we only pay for the 10 minutes they're there. It's very beautiful. It's got trees that are 4 feet in diameter, it's got gators, it's got pythons, they do activities, they do bingo, there's a separate his and her hot tubs, and a pool. It has 400 people, half of them married, the other half are single. And the ratio is like 7 or 8 women to 2 or 3 men. I've eaten six or eight meals there. I'm picking up dinner from Lake Port Square every night and taking it home. By the time I get home which is a half hour away, it's cold, but the food is excellent. Leesburg Hospital is almost a walk away from there. Even closer is the medical imaging to do all my x-rays and stuff. Everything is right there. Leesburg is a beautiful town. It's got all the restaurants, movie theaters, CVS, and Walgreens. It's ideal. It's not located in a bad section of town, it's in what I would call an upper scale neighborhood.

Provider Response

Thank you for the great review. Welcome to the Neighborhood!

I have a friend at the assisted living facility of Lake Port Square. They have private and semi-private rooms, but no wards, and you don't have patients crowded and packed in the hallway. One room has a bedroom with a dresser, a closet, a bed, a couple of chairs, recliner and a regular chair for your guest to sit. They have karaoke, crafts, games, religious activities, happy hour, performers, and there's a pool. There are a lot of activities for them. They have rehab, long-term care, assisted, and independent living. There are different buildings for different things. It's like a campus. Once you pay the entrance fee, you don't have to do it again because you're part of the community. The staff is excellent. It's a great facility. I was very impressed and I would recommend it. If I ever have to go, that's where I would go.

My mother is in rehab right now at Lake Harris. It's a very efficiently run facility. The people are very professional. They have a more than adequate nursing and managerial staff. They're very conscientious about who comes in and who exits the building. They keep track of that with a special system where you have to log in and log out whenever you visit one of the patients or a resident. They're more than adequately meeting my mom's needs right now. The staff is very cooperative, and they really care about the people there. I haven't had any problems getting questions answered or getting help with issues. They always have a wide variety of food on their menu and she's been happy with it. It's a relatively new facility and in good physical repair. The place is kept clean, there's adequate parking, and it's easy to get in and out of. They also have security on the premises. She's receiving everything that the doctors order her to have as far as her physical rehabilitation, all her medications, and everything involved with her care. They even do her laundry for her.

My family cannot recommend you put a loved one here. The CNA's were generally pleasant. Facilities and food were nice. If you have a loved one there, visit often, asked detailed questions. Be prepared to advocate.

We only visited Lake Port Square once and looked around. It had very long hallways, and I don’t walk that well, so we decided not to pursue it. I could see myself having a long walk to get to dinner. We looked at one unit that was quite nice and large, so that was fine.

Lake Port was very nice but was a high rise, which I don’t like. The units were very nice, but the cost was way too high, unbelievable. In the apartment, there’s a living room, bedroom, a kitchenette area and a nice porch. The ambience was very good. The person who assisted me was very knowledgeable and friendly. I saw card playing, a pool, and bingo. They’re on a lake, which had a very nice walking trail. The facilities were very nice and first class, and the dining area was very beautiful.

It’s beautiful when you go in front of Lake Port Square. They have big, tall trees, and you see all the wood. You can walk into a lake with a dock which has chairs where you can sit. It’s beautiful and shady, and you get nice cool air. They take you on a boat, and they take you to different nice areas around the lake, so it’s very panoramic and beautiful. They show a lot of grass and nature. They’ve done a great job with the landscaping, and it’s a big place, but it’s the priciest of all the places that we’ve been to see. The ladies are great. They do a great job taking you around and telling you all the info you need. The rooms are very nice, but it’s a tall but beautiful building.

We went to Lake Port; it’s probably the oldest in the community, and it’s very nice. It was OK, we have lots of friends who live there, and it’s affordable for us. They take care of your room, they have two meals a day, and they’ve got a very nice facility. They got a very nice café, beauty shops, and barbershops. They offer a lot of activities. It’s a perfectly gorgeous beautiful place, with a vineyard, beautiful trees, and a nice walking area. It’s several stories, but I can’t do stairs, and my husband doesn’t like elevators. Once you’re there, you don’t have to go somewhere else as you age, which is what we were looking for.

Lake Port Square is here in town. It's very clean and organized, and just leaves you with a very good impression. Anything I asked, the staff was ready with an answer. The apartments looked very good, very clean, and of a good size. The only thing detractive for me was that there wasn't a garage for vehicles. If you've gone to the grocery store or out somewhere, you had to schlep everything from the parking lot all the way into the building, up the elevator, and so forth. That's my only concern. Other than that, everything was fine.

There are two large apartment buildings, and they have several different floor plans ranging from just one bedroom to two bedrooms. They have five-floor buildings with elevators and very nice dining rooms. They provide transportation to shopping, doctor's appointments, and trips. I was with one of the salespeople, and she was very cordial, experienced, informative, and very good. They have dining room staff and housekeeping. They are well staffed. My score for Lake Port Square would be based on a couple of things: they're more expensive -- which is more than I can afford -- and they do not give any credit for long-term care insurance.

My father was there after back surgery. The medical care was inadequate. They did not change the dressing on his back for two days. Would not come in and give him a bath. Took the doctor 4 hours after he had been called to see my father. When asked for a supervisor it took another 2 1/2 hours for them to see my father. But when my father told them he wanted to go home, someone was there in 3 minutes to start the paper work. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I know that the people here liked it because I know some people that were billionaires that lived here. The rooms are very nice. You can get anything you like. You don't have to get a kitchen. You can just get the bedroom part. Some people can't afford the kitchen and everything. The woman that I work for can afford the small kitchen where she can cook for herself. It is just really nice.

The reason I didn't choose Lake Harris Inn is because the bathrooms are inaccessible for somebody either in a wheelchair or using a walker. They were pretty outdated. They still had tub enclosures, where you would have to step into a bathtub. They had these awkward sinks that were right next to the toilet seat, so you'd be sitting on the toilet and your knees would be hitting the sink. It seemed to be that there was a lot of help there. For instance, if my mother needed extra help, like physical therapy or something like that, that was readily available there.

I liked the surrounding area of Lake Port Square because they had a lake. It was gorgeous. But I didn't like the building. The guy who gave us the tour was pleasant. However, we don't belong there, unless I would sell my house first. But then when the money's gone where would I go. They would charge you according to the rooms that you would get, but that would mean within a year, I would be in the street. They would give the amount of rent, but then if you were married, they would tell that the second person would costs more. They had average rooms. They were not tremendously big. I would need two rooms. I didn't see the activities but everyone were bragging about the activities and I saw people waiting for the bus because I they took them out anywhere. I would tell my friends and loved ones to see this place.

The Lake Port Square is close to where I live and from where I work that's why we've chosen that place for my parents. It was the best one we looked around and it's an active community. They are in the independent living area. Aside also from having assisted living they have also nursing home so they can go through the stages right there. The room is nice. The food is fantastic. They have like a five star restaurant there that you go every day. They also have ice cream parlor, barber shop, beauty shop. If the residents need to go anywhere, they will pick them up and take them anywhere they want. Overall, it's a fantastic place. It's top of the line. They liked it and they have a nice view of the lake out their window and they love it.
