I visited this facility

I went to the Country Cottages at Birmingham, Hoover. The cottage was just like what the name implies which is nice, makes you feel at home. The lady coming before the pandemic? They would take them to different events around. Things that happened monthly, you know, like the Fourth of July, they celebrate and different days, they celebrate. They make things, teach them to make different things, hanging things on the door, different activities like that. They have a nice sitting area, I think they have a little garden, where they grow flowers, and that they participate in.

I visited this facility

I thought Country Cottages at Birmingham, Hoover was very nice and looked clean. I looked at the memory care and it was like a home environment, not so sterile like a hospital, and everybody was very nice and seemed very knowledgeable. Their menu looked like a country type of food, something that most elderly and me would like.

Country Cottages Hoover has been very good, but my sister is more than they can handle, so they asked me to move her. They're a good place for people that don't need a lot of care, but she's gotten beyond that. They've got assisted living, dementia, and Alzheimer's. We were able to visit there until this pandemic started, so we now can't go in anymore. The tour and everything was wonderful, the lady was great, she was pretty clear on what was needed from them, and what was needed from us, and it worked out great. Her room is small, but nice. I tried their food on holidays, and it was good. They bought this place from somebody else, and as far as assisted living goes, it's OK. The bathrooms are handicap-accessible, but small. They have different activities, but they don't have that many amenities. They have a courtyard and people were coming in before the pandemic. It's nice, but it's more just like strolling around. You can come and go as you please, and they bring people in, but they don't have a pool or stuff like that. They have a community dining with lots of tables. Everybody sits out there and eats together, and you have a choice whether you want to eat at the table. The staff is wonderful.

My tour at Country Cottages at Birmingham, Hoover was very, very good. The lady I met, the marketing director was very nice and very helpful. I saw the common area, I saw the dining room, and I saw what would be her bedroom.

I visited this facility

The rooms at Country Cottages at Birmingham in Hoover were just too small for my needs. The staff member who helped me during my visit was fine; they couldn't have been more gracious. Their dining area was also quite a small area. My first impression was that the place was kind of old-fashioned. I didn't see anybody doing anything at the time. I saw that they had a TV set, but didn't see a garden area at all or that they have an exercise area. There could be a lot more evidence of something going on because didn't see anything like that.

We already placed Mom in Country Cottages. They provide good care and good meals. They have excellent staff to resident ratios, and a very caring and friendly environment. The residents seemed to enjoy each other's company and they group together a lot, watch TV, and do activities. Mom's room is personalized for her. The reason we chose them is because they don't have so many residents that the staff loses track of the who the people are, which we found in some other places. This was a small facility where the staff members actually know the residents, their names, characteristics, and personalities, so they get to be a much better one-on-one clean case with everybody. There are times though that we have to call and tell them to pay particular attention to something because they're not observing that themselves.

We like Country Cottages at Birmingham. It was very good. The layout was good and we liked what we saw. The dining area looked good; it was very nice. The people were very friendly, and the person who accommodated us was very nice. She was very experienced, she has been there there for a long time, she knows everybody, and she was very helpful. The esidents were bowling while I was there. Some were eating and some were watching TV too.

This is an amazing facility that caters to the needs of a variety of residents. Activities, especially during holidays and birthdays, are consistent for all residents and their families to enjoy. While there is one homemaker working in one specific building, the residents are mainly independent and require little day-to-day assistance. The other buildings have two homemakers at all times. Families can visit residents as often as possible, and many residents seem to enjoy the luxury and freedom separated from the stereotypes of nursing and assisted living homes. My mother enjoyed every minute there!

Country Cottages was a very homey facility with friendly people who seemed very efficient. The only reason why we did not choose it was because of the proximity to other family member, but it was very nice. It had a very friendly staff and a beautiful facility.

I placed my father in the Country cottages. It was a good environment for him because it was small with only 16 residents per cottage. It’s one level, so he’s not going to get lost. However, the food is terrible, and when I placed my father in-law there, they were not able to meet the level of care needed. He fell within 48 hours of being there, broke his back, and had surgery.

Dad liked Country Cottages the most. He liked the residents he talked to, the fact that there were many activities going on at that time, and the layout of one of the apartments, which were clean and well kept. The people working there were warm, friendly, and cordial to us. The atmosphere was pleasant, bright, and cheery.

I was not really impressed with the assisted living or memory care environments of Country Cottages as far as the facility's newness and renovations, staff, and activities. The place didn’t look very homey; it looked more institutional to me.

Country Cottages was small, warm, and receptive. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and functional. The staff during the tour were warm and accommodating. They had good activities. They engage them in various games, and they were eager to help the residents.

They have 1 "homemaker" per building which is 16 patients. They are chronically short staffed with staff having to work double shifts which can make them short tempered. The food is more bad than good. On our first visit, a patient was telling us how bad the food was but we were being "wined and dined" and the food we were fed that day was not what the residents got. I wish we would have listened to her. There are no activities. With that being said, it is not a horrible place but they just do not keep adequate staff.

My mom has full-blown Alzheimer's so we placed her in a memory care unit in Country Cottages. She has her own room with wood floors and a bathroom. The facility is a U-shaped building so it's easier for her to find places and not get lost as much. It's pretty clean. They have a little garden in the middle but you can't go out there unless one of the nurses is with you. The staff are very nice, very polite and they know what they're doing. They're personable with the residents. They take really good care of them. They do a lot of fun games. Throughout the day, they have activities scheduled so residents are kept busy all day long. The foods are sometimes pretty good, but at times, not that good. However, I think this facility need more staff members.
