Cedars of Austin is a caring and well-staffed community. They have senior living, assisted living, and memory facilities as well. It's a very nice place. The personnel and staff are very excellent and caring and when anything happens, they contact me immediately and let me know what transpired. It's well-run, and it's like a small city within a city. They have their own 24/7 nursing staff, facilities, and features a salon, and a multitude of things that the residents can do. They own their own shuttle bus so residents can travel and go places for a meal or see an event, or to go shopping. It's great as far as keeping people active and involved. My mother is happy there. The check-in process went very well and it was easy to do. The staff was there to help us move stuff into her apartment when we got there. Everything was taken care of. Their dining room is like a very posh restaurant and the cook is a master chef and very personable. He knows all the residents by name and what they like or don't like, it's just amazing. The building is comfortable and feels like home to anybody from the moment you walk in. Price-wise, they're comparable to the other places we've looked at, which were nothing but glorified nursing homes.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
Right now, everything seems to be going alright at Cedars of Austin. They’d call here if something was wrong right away. The one thing that I am having a problem with is they don’t seem to have transportation for their patients, like with my mother where my brother lives in New Mexico and I live in Florida, and I am going to talk to them about this. But other than that, they do really great with her and when I was up there, I was pleased with everything that went on, and when I was there and she had appointments and stuff, I was able to take her. I know they had called me here because she fell and said that she had to go to the hospital and then asked if we had someone that could take her. That is the only thing. I think they can do better with providing a van, which they could charge you and the hospital is only a block away to begin with. I think they could provide a van and have someone available to drive people to these places and then charge you for it or whatever they want to do. Overall, there are no complaints. She likes it there; she likes the nurses, and the time that I spent up there, I was very pleased with everything. I think the dementia care that she is in is just a new thing for her and they are still learning what needs to be done and what not. But I am pleased with them overall, and we know that she is in a safe place.
