We thought we were putting our relative into a memory care wing. He was in Edisto. It's not a dedicated memory care unit. We were advised staff was trained in memory care. Our experience did not reflect that. On intake we were asked what his schedule was, and were told they liked to keep residents on their same schedule as much as possible. That never happened once that we saw. They asked how he did things at our house, we explained in detail his fears and how we avoided those. The very next morning we were told he was "combative" to the staff there. He's never been combative. They were not handling him like a memory care patient. They then told us he couldn't feed himself, they had to. He's always fed himself. At intake, and multiple times later, we told them to cut his food, put some food on his fork, hand him the fork, and he'd eat. He had a great appetite and mostly cleaned his plate. He had to be re-directed once in a while, but that's normal with memory care. This was an ongoing issue. We wanted him to keep what independence he had as long as he could. They took it away. Our relative was in a wheel chair and was not able to speak up for himself. Many days he was drenched, developed macerated marks on his bottom from sitting in soiled pullups all day. Many days we got there at 10:30 or 11:30, he was still in bed--laying in dried feces. One day we got there at 11:30, they were just pushing him out to dining area to warm up his breakfast to give him. He had lunch right after that. He is allergic to shellfish, they couldn't find the menus we filled out, they filled them out, they had put shrimp to serve him, when on the form it clearly said he had shellfish allergy. Thankfully we found out ahead of time. He was just there 2 months, and at the end of the 2 months they STILL could not put his hearing aids in right, or in the right ears. I showed everyone there I could how to put them in, and that red dot is for right ear and blue dot for left ear. I even hung up pictures to show correct and incorrect way for hearing aids to go in. It didn't do any good. Needless to say, our experience there was not good. In our dealings, it seemed there was not good communication between the staff there. Therapy would advised staff how to work with him, but this never got passed on to others. His very basic minimum needs were not being met there.

My husband is in NHC HealthCare Bluffton. He's been there for almost two months now. We're very happy where he is. We chose them because they had an open bed and it's less than a mile from us. We visited other family members there before and it's just perfect. It's amazing. It's almost like a hotel room. Everything's excellent. The food looks decadent, better than what I fixed at home. He's very happy with the amenities. With a broken hip and a broken femur, he's limited in activities but he's doing very well. The PT brought him home and they work with him and he's doing very well. He's there for rehab.

My husband was at NHC HealthCare Bluffton. He was in skilled nursing, then in a rehab unit. I know that they're very short-staffed, it's probably true of all nursing homes, but when I went over there one afternoon, my dear husband was sitting in his chair with his head down in a soiled diaper. He had a shirt on and nothing else. I asked 3 people if they would please get my husband back into bed and change his diaper. Two hours went by and nobody came so you can only imagine how I felt. The very best part of the experience at the nursing home was the rehab people. They were caring, understanding, compassionate, and just wonderful people. I can't say enough for the rehab people. All nursing homes, I'm sure, are short of staff. They need to get competent people who care about the folks that are there and need care. We're living at a time now where there's just not a lot of caring going on. What can be done is finding the right people, I guess. Committed people and people who care about their patients. They're short-staffed but they do the best they can. I'm not going to be critical of them because they're doing the best they can under difficult circumstances. The cleanliness is probably adequate of what you would see in any nursing home. In reference to the food, my husband said, "This is like the hall of culinary atrocities". He was not pleased with it.

My mom had actually been in NHC Healthcare Bluffton several years ago, and I was pleased with the services. This time we didn't have to choose them, the hospital where she was at did, because that's where they send their patients if they need rehabilitation services. They're a clean place and I like that you don't smell anything when you walk in the door. The food looked pretty good, and smelled very good too. They give them choices and then they have a varied number of activities for the residents. The CNAs are pretty attentive, but to me, it looks like they're short staffed and not always as responsive as they should be. I understand that, but that is a problem. Also, the nurses aren't always as knowledgeable as I think they should be when I ask a question. If I'm sitting in the room with my mother and ask them if she has gotten her antibiotic for today, the answer shouldn't be, "I don't know" and leave it at that. It should be, "I don't know, but let me get back to you." So, they weren't always as communicative as I thought they should be. I think there should be a regular update without us having to ask them.

My mother-in-law was in NHC Bluffton two years ago. She was in rehab, and we have no complaints; they were great. All the caregivers, the CNAs, and everybody who came into her room were very pleasant, and I felt like she was well cared for. There's never any odor there, everything looked good, and they had a great variety of food. You can actually choose your meals. They have other items that you can get if you just truly don't want anything that's on their menu. We had absolutely no problems with them.

My Father was a resident at NHC for 6 months. NHC allowed us to bring in furniture from his home as well as hang his paintings, which gave him a sense of home. The staff was marvelous, always available to help him when needed as well as to answer our concerns. With COVID, the activities that Dad enjoyed are not available. I can't give enough praise to the staff for their care of Dad, especially at the end of his life. He passed peacefully and I was glad to have been with him. The understanding and care given to me and family by the staff at that time was immeasurable. I highly recommend NHC for rehab and long term care.

The care provided is below optimum not enough staff on weekends . This for profit facility is more focused on profits then best practice The administrator is untrustworthy and the work culture can be hostile at times which affects patient care . There is no transparency many not enough certified nurses working which results in poor patient care The rooms are nice but not cleaned on a regular basis and laundry goes missing The food is not low carb and is packaged not fresh Often times medications are not given on time Management hides in their office and does not address customer service issues

Hi I am a Retired Pharmacist and my Mother In Law is in NHC. Visited on this last Sunday. Went down to the Nurses Station to see if a procedure was being preformed on MIL? WOW! After explaining what I wanted to the Very UnProfessional Nurse, T., 3 times, she promptly told me THIS IS NOT A HOSPITAL. I said I am sorry to interrupt your magazine reading and your personal calls you take outside. There seams to be a lack of Nursing help immediately beside the nurse? I have in my pharmacy life, been in charge of the pharmacy in a small nursing home, so I know how it should work and there seams to be a lack of support, even during week days Week Ends are a Disaster! My Mother was in this facility for almost 90 days. The best part of NHG is the therapy program! OUTSTANDING Therapy! However the rest can be very much improved. My Mother has a very serious food allergy which was shared as she was admitted. At least six times (that I know of) she was served incorrectly. Every time we reported this, nothing changed. Many times I saw the care givers laughing in the hall as patient rooms lights were blinking needing assistance. I also saw care givers sitting on the floor behind area desks on their phones. The activities are very poor - watching a move, puzzles...nothing else. Would not go back here!

Facility excellent, food excellent and employees are very kind and helpful. I spoke with one who told me he loved his job and everyday was a good day to work there. Wow. So nice to hear that. And it shows.

I visited this facility
Stray Pitbulls walking around premises. There are 3 of them. New building that is having construction on. Some of the workers are seen throwing trash on the ground at times. There was a screw fount in my tire after noticing a slow leak coming back home from visiting there.. Five star Care is a front on robbing old folks of their cash.

My mom is in a nursing home on Medicaid. She is in a good nursing home. It’s called NHC in Bluffton. I like everything about them except that it is not in Georgia. My mom is in a private room. It is good size and it is nice. We are having to supplement it about $400 a month. My mom said the food is good.

I visited this facility
My mother-in-law was in NHC, so we spent a lot of time there. It’s wonderful. They couldn’t care more, followed through, and made sure that she always had something to do. They were very concerned about not only her mental state but also in allowing her to be comfortable and being with her. The quality of service, I’d say, was exemplary. Her room was very spacious. They did her laundry every day and made sure that she was up and about, so that she could go to dinner. They made sure that if she needed assistance that they would accompany her back to her room if she wanted to take a nap. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for her. She passed away on September 20 last year, but she was very happy in her final years living there, and they took very good care of her. The other good thing is that no one had a position any lower than a CNA as opposed to some other inexpensive nursing homes where you get what you pay for. NHC was expensive at $285 a day with three meals, but it was just wonderful care.

I visited this facility
Don't send a family member to this place. My dad was there for 2 months after knee surgery. During that time my mom died at nhc. She was very ill. My dad was upset obviously, and would drink . They kicked him out accusing his children of being drunk when bringing him back. No evidence just accused. So he got kicked out! Wrong they treated him badly after my mom died. Terrible.

I would NOT recommend this facility to anyone. They lost all of the laundry that was sent with the patient. The patient did not receive food on numerous occasions and had I not been there this particular night there would have been no tray delivered to the room. The techs/cnas were no help. They acted like they were being disturbed when asked for something and were constantly on their phones. The bed sheets were not changed for almost 3 days and the room smelled. Trash was never taken out either. There is not enough staff to help out with the needs of the patients there. Do not send your friends or relatives to NHC.

I visited this facility
NHC Bluffton was newer, nicer, very spacious, and they had a lot more beds. They have over a hundred beds while other places only have about twenty. The room was spacious and everything was very clean and new. I spoke to a girl in admissions about a month ago; she promised to send a nurse to go see my father and to see what he was like. I called a week later to see if she had sent somebody, but she never returned my phone call and she had never sent anyone to see me, so she is not doing anything to help me. I would rate it a four because they didn't call me back, but if they had I would give it a five.

do NOT have your friends or family become a patient at NHC, if your not addicted to narcotics you will be by the time you leave, patients there set their alarm clocks so they get their as needed pain meds even after they have been there for 4-5 weeks all they do is give narcotics and the more the better, administrative staff turn over is very high as well floor staff turn over is high, the hire bodies but not quality competent staff I rate them a minus

I don't like the people at NHC HealthCare. In the short time that my mom was there, they lost all of her clothes and they have to pay us back for them. They were just not as friendly or nice as they seemed to be. They acted like they don't care about the patients. The rooms were bigger and nicer, but a lot of money for nothing. They need to improve on patient care.

My mother was briefly in NHC for Rehab. This facility is for rehab, assisted living and may progress to nursing facility, I am unsure about nursing home part. Top of the line facility. The entire staff was wonderful. Rehab department was top notch and room beautiful. Part of nationwide chain so I am sure that all are the same. Even though things were brand new and very "classy" did not have that feeling. Everyone was very friendly and down to earth. Met needs of patient and family. Would highly recommend. My mother was only there a short time before she took a turn and passed. Even in that situation they were very caring. instead of dealing with everything else they packed up her room and stored it until we could pick up. Very caring and hospitable. Also provide very easy 24 hour access
