I visited this facility

My husband was in the Delmar Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. He was there for rehab and they moved him to a long-term care unit without consulting me. I went to his room one morning to visit and the room has been stripped, the room was stripped completely. The help does not care. I once needed help with him to help him to go to the bathroom, to help him stand up. And I saw somebody in a common room sitting there playing on her phone, and I said, I need some help. '' She says, "Well, I'm a nurse." Well, good for you. But she finally did get two people to come and help me. And they said he should call for help. I said, who is he going to call? I got there at three o'çlock one afternoon. There was not a single aide in the unit and the whole unit that I could see in the common room, or the halls, or anywhere. There was nobody there. That's a terrible place. It's dirty. My husband became incontinent, and instead of taking off his clothes, they used these cheap things that soaked right through, so they'd pull it off without taking off his outside pants. So his outside pants were always wet. His chair was always wet. They couldn't be bothered. That's where the hospital sent him for rehab, but after a couple of weeks, they moved him to this long-term care unit. And there is no long-term care, there's no care, just long-term, but not much care. He was there in the summer of 2021. The staff was uncaring and uninterested. The location was alright, it was easy to get to.

I visited this facility

Delmar Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing was very pleasant and the surroundings were very nice. The rooms were very nice and the people were very accommodating. The person that showed us around and the admissions office was very good and very helpful. The dining room was also nice. The only problem was it would have to be self-pay and we couldn't do that. So, that was the only setback.

I have been advocating for this particular veteran and his wife for the past three months. The veteran was sent they’re for rehabilitation, and three months later he has not shown any progress. Veteran still needs assistance getting in and out of his bed, getting in and out of his chair, going to the bathroom, standing on his own, just with all of the essential things that he needs to be able to return to his own apartment and living out the rest of his days with dignity and pride. The phone in his room still isn't working where you can actually call into his room and speak directly to him. I placed a work order in to have the phone repaired in his room about a month ago. Interactions with the staff have been very minimal. I have called the staff at least two day a week for the past month including reaching out to the director to get an update on how the veteran's doing and still there’s no response from the case/social worker or director. I understand that she maybe caring for over 50 clients at a time and so some of the client’s needs are over looked. It only takes a few minutes to return a phone call an give an update to the clients concerned family members. Each client should be treated as if this was one of your own family members. I find the service to be unsatisfactory and the clients, and the family’s deserve better especially our veterans that honorably served this country.

Other

This is the worst place to put your family members in they can’t even provide wash cloths for your parents or grandparents to the point that we have to use pillow cases to wipe them

My father was in the Good Samaritan Lutheran Home. I had to go in and clean his room. I cleaned his windows. I moved stuff around and cleaned behind everything. It wasn't that clean. It smelled and needed updates. There were things that were broken when we got there that never got fixed, and he was there for almost a year. The dining room was good; it was satisfactory -- I mean, it worked. It wouldn't be good, but it would be satisfactory for him. The rooms were very dingy and dull -- nothing bright and airy. They were all painted in dark colors, and the bathrooms were old.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm in Delmar Rehab right now. I have been very happy, and I have never had any real problem here. They're very understanding. I have had occupational as well as physical therapy, and they are very conscious of it. I have gained a lot of weight over the last few years, and I have lost a lot of weight since I have been here, so as far as I'm concerned, they're very good. I think the staff is very good. The physical therapy is outstanding. They're very caring and very understanding, and they're good listeners, too. If you have any problems -- pain or anything -- they're right on top of it. If I feel like I'm hungry, I can get a sandwich, cookies, or something. I did a lot of my rehab in the room because of COVID, and they wouldn't let you into the hallways. Last month, since COVID is not in the building anymore, they opened the gym, and they have chairs, bicycles, and other exercise things in there, so if you are able to, they will get you on the bike. I also started to be able to walk in the hallways as long as I wear my mask. They're very, very good. Now that the weather is nice, I have seen people outside, and they are able to walk around the building.

I visited this facility

I visited Good Samaritan, and I wasn't interested after I found out how much it was. There is no way my father could afford it. It was very nice, and they had everything that you could possibly want, but you had to pay for it. The dining room seemed really nice, it was clean, and the tables were all set up.
