Reviews of AgeSong at Laguna Grove

I visited this facility
My visit to AgeSong Laguna Grove was nice. The people were very informative and very helpful in giving me the information I needed. It also seemed that they had my mom's best interest in terms of what would be best for her. The living quarters were a little small, but homey, and the common dining room had a restaurant feel to it. The atmosphere was fine and very casual. It did not seem like a nursing home, which is very important.

I visited this facility
I visited AgeSong at Laguna Grove. The rooms were small, and I thought it was a place I could live but didn't think that my husband could. I was really impressed with the staff there. I thought they were connecting well with the people they were taking care of and paying attention. I felt that there were enough staff members. They had urban amenities, which I would appreciate but my husband wouldn't. I liked the idea that it was Downtown and you could walk out the door and be in the middle of things, but I was looking for something for my husband, so it wouldn't be appropriate for him. He would not have been able to go out and take advantage of the location, but it was a nice cityscape. I looked at the dining area, which was very pleasant.

I visited this facility
AgeSong had two different buildings -- one was newer and one was a little older. The facilities were clean, but the accommodations were smaller. It was beautiful. They had a lovely rooftop area where everyone can sit and look at the view of the city. They also had a piano up there where they had people that come and play music. It was lovely.

I used to work at a small hospital, and part of my job was to refer patients to assisted living. I've referred people there--and also visited it and have gone to seminars there.
They offer straight assisted living--no memory care.
It's in a great location: centrally located in Hayes Valley, with easy access to public transportation. A bus stops right in front of AgeSong. And it's close to restaurants and shops.
It also has great views. The top floor is used for multiple events--birthday celebrations, special events, and the views are spectacular. It's an older building, about six floors, but well kept up. Rooms are both private and shared--different sizes, different prices. It reminds me of a high-rise apartment complex. But there's no yard, no grass.
The staff is fantastic, and there are more than enough to care for everyone--an excellent ratio of staff to residents. They also have licensed interns, who are able to give a little extra attention to the residents. They're all friendly, warm, welcoming. Management is good, too. They're the original owners, and they have an excellent reputation.
The food is good--well balanced meals, good choices. And there are plenty of daily activities, ranging from Bingo games to arts and crafts.
From AgeSong at Laguna Grove
Located in the lively Hayes Valley, AgeSong Laguna Grove was built in 2005. The inviting four story building strikes a warmly modern silhouette; tall redwood bay windows line the upper floors, and a two-story glass-walled entry fills the space with light. Located directly across from AgeSong Hayes Valley, the two residences form a companion community, sharing common spaces, activities and meals.
The open-plan first floor flows from entry to dining area, artfully divided by a staircase that curves to the second floor. The rear wall is a two-story expanse of glass that bathes the dining space in daylight and gives a full a view of the Courtyard beyond. Graced with trees and towering bamboo, the Courtyard offers a soothing place for residents and guests to gather. Set in the shelter of the building, the slate-paved Courtyard is enclosed with a rustic fence that completes the garden’s charm and offers safety and privacy.
Elders occupy the second and third floors of Laguna Grove, where modern accommodations are comfortably decorated to give a sense of home. As in all AgeSong settings, most rooms are specifically designed for two, countering isolation and fostering the elders’ social engagement. Some single rooms are also available and both floors are shared by men and women. Unique to Laguna Grove, the second floor is reserved for the highest level of care offered at AgeSong; a coded entrance creates a secure environment for elders receiving enhanced forgetfulness and behavioral care. The third floor has open access, and like all AgeSong communities, the levels of care offered are tailored to fit the unique needs of each elder.
The fourth story Laguna Terrace is the community’s crowning jewel. The entire floor forms a glass-walled atrium with large skylights and a breathtaking 270-degree city view. Here, the vista sweeps from the Beaux-Arts dome of City Hall to the wooded slopes of Bernal Hill. With its coded access, Laguna Terrace creates a secure place for residents to visit with guests, celebrate birthdays and gather for festive community events. The Terrace also offers a safely enclosed outdoor deck with a striking garden of succulents planted by the residents. The atrium features an ongoing exhibit of residents’ art and a grand piano welcomes musical events. Our proximity to Davies Symphony Hall and the SF Jazz Center makes Laguna Terrace a popular rehearsal space for visiting musicians, creating wonderful free concerts for our residents. A beautiful communal space, Laguna Terrace is a perfect expression of the rich creativity that informs all aspects of AgeSong Living.
