I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I had to put my husband at Rainbow Health Care Community for a short while for rehabilitation. First of all, I liked that it was a smaller facility. It wasn't a huge, huge place. The staff was very accommodating and very pleasant to deal with. They would listen to our concerns and seemed to treat him caringly. They made him feel like he was a human being. If I had a problem, I could find out quite quickly and get an answer to my problems. The eating facility there did a good job. They provided activities for their patients to do in the main hall, which I liked. They had an area where you could take them outside if the weather was good. I had close proximity parking, which was very important to me. It was nice to be able to park close to the entrance so I could easily go in and out. It was kind of an older-looking building and it wasn't the most beautiful looking place, but they kept it clean and I didn't notice a lot of smells or anything like that. They treated their patients very humanely.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandmother was a resident at this facility. Outside appearance was well maintained however the inside was not quite what I expected. As with most nursing home facilities there was a very pungent odor of urine. The facility was kept clean and neat. As for staffing, there always seemed to be a shortage of both licensed nurses and aides. When visiting, I would spend several hours with my grandmother. During this time you were compelled to watch the occurances in the facility. I took note that there seemed to be no more than 2 nurse aides per shift. Working in the medical field myself it wasn't difficult to distinguish who held what positions. I found it very distressing that there were only 2 nurse aides per shift to carry out the duties of changing linens for 50+ patients, get them dressed and ready for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and then get them ready for afternoon activities or bed. Needless to say, my grandmother did not get the care that I felt she deserved. Therefore, I made several visits each week to ensure that she was being looked after properly. While visiting the facility I also observed that emergency call lights were answered either very slowly or not at all. I would also like to include that there is a very distinct difference in patient rooms and care between self pay patients and medicare patients. I feel that every patient should be given the same care regardless of their situation. There were several instances where I arrived to find my grandmother soiled and obviously had been left that way for some time. There were also issues with keeping track of her personal propery. For instance, we were constantly bringing her socks and house robes and none could ever be found when visiting.
