We were blessed to get John, R.N. from Cleveland Clinic Hospice at Home for our grandmother when she had a stroke at the age of 103. John was extremely compassionate, efficient, informative and caring during her 6 weeks of hospice care. He gave us clear, understandable instructions & returned all calls promptly. He was gentle with grandmother and caring with us. He gave us a feeling of assurance that she was getting the best care possible. When she passed away, he quickly arrived and not only took care of the medical business but also took time to comfort the family members. Grandmother had a gentle passing. We highly recommend this hospice program.
I would not recommend Cleveland Clinic Hospice. I am still waiting for a callback for over a year! Because my mother had memory issues, they were asked to call me (i had healthcare power of attorney) to schedule appointments. They constantly called my mother, which caused great confusion, and over the 6 month period of care, this happened all but twice with weekly visits! Extrememly frustrating! The chaplain was the best! Without him, I'm sure we would have gone with a different hospice facility. My mother was able to remain at my home and I believe because they knew I was there 24 hrs. a day, the care was lacking on their part. The aide that was sent to help with personal hygiene was a smoker who wreaked of cigarettes and my mother was dying of lung cancer. She was very nice but the smell couldn't be tolerated so we had to stop her visits. The night my mother passed, we couldn't reach the 24hr line because they had "computer issues" and nobody could get to my house for several hours after she passed. Very traumatic for the entire family. After she passed, we never heard one word from Cleveland Clininc Hospice. I had to make several calls because I had medical supplies and medications that I did not know what to do with. They did come immediately to pick up the hospital bed. I finally received a call on Christmas Eve...(my mother passed October 16th!) from a nurse responding to a complaint I had left approximately 10 days after she passed. I told her my concerns, she was very understanding and apologetic. She told me she wanted to follow up with the RN assigned to my mother and the aide and would get back to me asap. I also told her we had boxes of brand new supplies and she said they would call me to schedule a pick-up. Today is January 17, 2015, my passed October 16, 2013!!! Yes 2013!!! The call I recieved was December 24, 2013!!! I am still waiting for a follow-up! I since have donated all supplies to a local senior center. Make no mistake, the RN was very very nice, and obviously the entire family formed a friendship with her. You would think that having shared the most intimate experience (passing of a loved one) that person might have called the day she passed and expressed condolences. Nothing! Nada! I would never recommend Cleveland Clinic Hospice to anyone! Western Reserved Hospice would be my choice if these services were ever needed. Today I received a brochure addressed to my mother from the Cleveland Clinic stating she hadn't been seen in any of there offices recently, and they hoped she would keep them in mind for future medical care! Well I hope they haven't seen her recently, because she passed over a year ago! Wouldn't you think they would have removed her from there database? Or at least from their mailing list??? Enough said!
Cleveland Clinic Hospice has been a blessing for my Mom (86yr. old Alzheimer's Patient), my Dad (Major Caregiver)and both of us daughters. We were struggling with information and didn't know which way to turn. After Mom left rehab facility after a fall, their visiting therapist recommended them to come evaluate Mom. We didn't think she was bad enough to qualify, but we gave them a call. Ever since Feb. they have been working daily with Mom and all of us to give her constant care. Even a chaplain comes to talk to Dad and give him support as the main caregiver. We are so greatful and would give them 2 thumbs of for their caring staff. We miss them when they are not able to make it. (though they do send a sub) Mom sees and aide every day for personal hygiene, a weekly visit from an RN , with a visiting Dr. and Nurse practitioner on call. The best part is that we don't have to take her out to a Doctor's Office and we can keep on top of any little change in her before it requires an ER visit. Love them
