My brother ended up in Brookdale Chestnut Lane Gresham. My experience there was great. The administrator invited us in and gave us lunch in the dining room, so we could experience the food and everything there. It's very special and mainly for deaf/blind folks. There's only two in the country that are like that, so people come from all over the country. A lot of the staff members are also deaf there. They have a chef and better food than some other places. They have crafts and bingo, and because it's a deaf community, they offer sign language to their residents who are not deaf, so they can learn to communicate with the other people. Once a week, they can meet with the chef and have input on the menu or meet regarding the activities so they have a say on what things happen there. When we got there, the administrator had a bucket of things to give him as a gift. The experience was fantastic. It certainly is a top-notch facility, and the staff genuinely cares about the residents, which is very nice.

I visited Brookdale, and it was not impressive. The atmosphere is impersonal, the staff was so-so, and the dining area was too big. They have a studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms. They don’t have a gym, just two machines in a workout room.

We chose this facility because they accepted my mother's pet. She got a studio there which is very adequate for her. I'm kind of having mixed feelings about Chestnut Lane. My mom was having a heart attack and she was sitting there in the hospital and they didn't bother call me. I am not really happy with them right now and I wish I can just get my Mom out of there but I can't at this time. The difference there is that when people come to work, it's like they love their job or just work for their for pay check. Because there's one particular girl who works there who comes there because she loves to be there and the rest of them come because they have to be because that's their job and you can definitely tell the difference. One thing I like there is the way the watch over my mom. I mean they mind their own business there and don't get into her business.
