The Palms Nursing and Rehab at Orange Park does their best. My brother is there, and the facility is pretty nice and pretty clean. The rooms are kind of small for two people, but the staff has been very helpful. Overall, they're good.

My husband was sent to Oak View Rehabilitation Center. They contacted me sometimes by phone, and we had a phone type with the rehab people, but for me to try to get a hold of him, or get a hold of the staff member, I was always getting a "busy right now, call back later" from an answering machine, so there wasn't really good communication for that time. I saw the place in person before they took him out. I was kept out of there for two weeks. It was clean, it didn't smell of urine or anything, it was very well decorated, and pictures on the wall were military pictures, and stuff like that, 'cause maybe they catered to the VA. It's one of theirs that they recommended, but my husband was under Medicare. One girl was really nice, and another that came out when I was waiting for him to be loaded up, the ambulance driver said something about him going to Orange Park, and she turned around and said, "No, he's going to St. Vincent's." I said, "No, I changed it," and she said, "Then, who are you?" So I got one good and one bad, and when you get a bad feeling and report it it takes 20 good ones to make up for that bad one, because it sticks in your mind.

My wife is at Oak View Rehabilitation Center, and her doctor is a few blocks away. The staff member is good, and I really like her, but at times they are understaffed. They don't have rehab people on the weekend. She hates the food.

My brother entered for rehab after breaking some ribs and having blood drained from his lung. He was weak, disoriented, and often not rational. I visited him on a Saturday, noticed he seemed weaker and he was not eating or drinking. Blood pressure checks indicated it was dropping. I mentioned these things to several caretakers. By very early Sunday morning, I received a call that they had left him back at the E.R. By the time I arrived from 70 miles away, the doctors said they did not think he could survive because he was so ill. BP dropped to 40's, vomiting, etc. They treated him and he lived, but still has issues related back to this illness. I know part of the Doctors Lake Healthcare is wonderful, but not the part he was in. They should have been more aware of what was going on with him.

I recently had a family member admitted to Doctor's Lake under hospice care. Whenever I would call the facility for an update on his condition I would get transferred to every dept possible before finally getting the nurse that I needed. The west wing is very unkept. If you are considering putting your loved one at this facility make sure that you go over the belongings list with the staff and have a signed copy of the items otherwise they may turn up missing.
