My brother lives at Holiday Renaissance-Sherman. I chose this place because of the price, and my brother really likes it. He has his own place and he likes it. He's happy. He has a one-bedroom apartment. It's a 700 square feet, complete kitchen, and the doors are all wide enough for a wheelchair. The staff is knowledgeable and has a good attitude. The place has more of a homey feel. Every time I've gone there, there's been a lot of people in the lobbies, and each floor has areas for games, and there's always people there. Games include board games, card games, and dominoes. The facility is easily accessible. There is a common dining area. It's well laid out and clean. They have a gym, a chapel, a library, and they do have a whirlpool hot tub that's not open yet. It's still being worked on.

I did a tour of Holiday Renaissance-Sherman. I liked the apartment that they showed me; it was very nice. They were really friendly, nice, and made you feel very comfortable. It was very clean. They were good. They have a patio and a courtyard, it's really nice. They have activities to do. You have to wear a call button around your neck in case you need them for something, but as far as a nurse or doctor or anything like that, they don't have that on hand. You do your thing, and you do your own medicine, so that's not a problem, but in case, later on it would be. And if you had to have medication and they had to bring it to you, they charge you for it. The staff showed us two apartments and what was available. Then she showed us the dining area, which they had just remodeled. It was beautiful, really pretty. The rest of the building, they are working on it. They need new carpeting in the hallways and on the second floor. They invited me to come and eat, but I didn't. It was good, except for the carpeting. They're working on the different places. Downstairs in the entryway, they're working on that. They've got it roped off where you can't see it. But the dining room that had been redone, it was gorgeous. It was beautiful. You would like to go eat there.

Holiday Renaissance-Sherman was a very nice place and the tour went very well. The thing I don't like about it is that you've got to take three meals a day. Whether we take them or not, you're going to pay for them. For two people, it's not the very best of situations. They've got all kinds of amenities. They've got a recreation room, and they have a hairdresser and a barber available. They've got a nice community area. I think they probably offer a lot of things for people to do if they want to. The staff during the tour was very good. My daughter was with me and we both told them right away, the carpeting in that place is really in bad need of being replaced. It was dirty down the hallways. The hallways surely needed some upkeep. I think the gentleman was a little a little surprised that I would say that, but it was very noticeable.

Holiday Renaissance-Sherman was a nice place. The studio that I saw was also very nice. It had a partition, not a full wall, but a half wall that the sleeping area was off on. They got very nice grounds and everybody was very responsive. Their exercise area was lacking though and the food was not very good. It's just heavy carbs and I'm not into it, but they have good people around.

I like how Renaissance-Sherman handled their rental units. They are reasonably priced. The apartments were older, but they're kept up nicely. They had a lot of different models you can choose from on the ground floor, second floor, or third floor. We chose a one-bedroom deluxe on the ground floor. They don't know when that's going to come available. If something becomes available on the second floor, we could move in there. Then when one comes available on the first floor, they'd move me down. They offered a lot of good options. The staff was really great. They gave us a great tour, showed us all the apartments, and showed us all activity levels. They served us dinner. Their chef was great, and we enjoyed the dinner. The food was very good, and there's a lot of choices. It's independent living. We can take assistance as we wanted. It's all inclusive. We can cook in our own kitchen if we wanted or we can just come out to the dining hall. They do housecleaning once a week. They change the linen and do the linens once a week. You just have your personal laundry to take care of. That's about where we want to be. We're both in our mid 80s. You can play cards or put puzzles together. They have shows, and they have different kinds of activities they put on for the people to do. I'm not sure what all they consist of. From what we've seen, it looked like everybody was well entertained. You can do hobby crafts. You can even have nursing care if you want it or you can have people come in and check on your medicine. You can have your meals delivered to your room if you need it. It depends on what level you're at and what you're capable of doing yourself. The more assistance you need, the cost goes up a little bit more from independent. The facility needs some updating, but not much. It's an older building. They kept me posted on everything. We liked it right from the start.

The food at Rennaisance is inedible. Horrendous. They refuse to do anything about it. It takes 45 minutes of waiting before you get your food and it is awful at that.

Holiday Renaissance (Renaissance-Sherman) was pretty nice and clean. It appeared to be very well taken care of. The person who gave me the tour was outstanding, very nice, and seemed to be aware of what was going on there. The dining area was really clean and neat. The rooms were nice. They had a workout room, sauna, and activities going on.

Renaissance-Sherman was three stories, which we didn't like. It's more like a hotel. We figured that my parents would be lost in trying to find their way around. Also, they needed to be painted and get new carpeting. They had puzzles, a nice little library, a card room for the members to meet in and play games or read or watch TV. It was nice. You could have somebody come in once a week to do cleaning and laundry service as well. If you needed meals brought to your room, they would do that as well. They provide three meals a day. The staff was great. The lady we talked to was very knowledgeable and introduced us around to people that were working there as we came across them. Everybody seemed to be very upbeat and very nice, making sure that the people are well taken care of, and a lot of them would call the people who live there by name.

I was impressed with Renaissance-Sherman. The staff seemed very good. I didn’t get to talk to Paige, who probably could have given us more information than the people we talked to, but they showed us around and told us about the facility. The grounds and location were very good. There were large, nice rooms and apartments, which was important to us. We were there on Thanksgiving Day and had some food with them, which was of good quality.

The only one we visited was Renaissance in Sherman, and it was excellent. We couldn’t find fault with anything. We were given a wonderful, thorough tour where they answered our questions, and given a lovely lunch. We couldn’t say enough good things about the place. Paige was very warm and explained things quite well. We thought it was wonderful. One of the things that impressed us was the food. I’ve been to places where the food wasn’t so good and that can be very disconcerting, so that was really nice. The size of the rooms was another feature we liked. The maintenance wasn’t quite as good as what I’ve seen in some places. They had a library and a salon. If my mother-in-law decides to go, that would be the place she picks. The residents we spoke to seemed to be very happy there.

I already placed my father into Renaissance-Sherman. It is just a very nice, well-run, clean place. The landscaping is nice. Inside the building is nice. The rooms are nice. It’s just a nice clean place with a good restaurant. They got a restaurant inside, of course, you get three meals a day. The restaurant is clean. They got a chef in there that makes great food. It’s all-around. Also Renaissance-Sherman is in a good location right off the Interstate, so that works out well. It’s a good place. The people that run it are excellent. They’re very accommodating. All the people we’ve run into -- like in the restaurant and the cleaning staff and so forth -- have all been good. I don’t have any issues with the staff. Renaissance-Sherman is excellent.

Renaissance-Sherman is a wonderful place, like living in the White House or something. The staff and living quarters were excellent. The dining room was really big and beautiful with lots of tables. The meals were really good. It was just very nice. They had a game room and provided transportation to bring the residents where they want to go.

I went to Renaissance – Sherman. The facility was very nice, a little dated, but it would have met our needs. It had a full kitchen. They were a little more expensive. The good point about them is they have assisted care as well as independent living.

I like Renaissance-Sherman a whole lot. The facility is very clean, and the people were very nice. The only thing I didn't like is there is only one main elevator, and there is a very long walk from the rooms to that elevator. The dining room was very clean and pretty, and the menu looks great. They have a hair salon.

Me and my wife liked Renaissance-Sherman very much. We wanted to move in there but we are not that old yet. It was a top notch facility. The staff was very good and everybody was pretty happy. The staff would call the residents by their first names. The place is extremely clean and it looked like a 5-star downtown hotel.

Renaissance-Sherman is an okay facility, but I don't think it's the nicest with what they want you to pay upfront to go in there. $5000 is a lot of money to pay for a fee to live in and I don't think there rooms were that great although they have different kinds of activities. They take the residents to shopping, barbecues, and music I guess would recommend them, but I just think they are way overpriced for what they have and the smell of the place is pretty bad.

My mom had stayed in Renaissance for three years. It was one of the top places in town for independent living. The independent side was very well-programmed in that there're always something going on for their residents, e.g., there were a lot of musical groups coming in to perform there. The staff also was fantastic. They really did a nice job as far as looking after my mom and all her needs. Their managers probably did more than they were supposed to do. They were also residents of this facility, so these people need to be at least old enough to actually live there. Considering their age, the responsibilities of running a facility were just too much for them. They were just getting stressed out. As a result, they had a lot of turnovers of managers. I think they just need to treat their managers a little better. Overall, I think this facility was very nice.

We stopped in to this facility while in the area looking at places for my brother's friend. It appeared well maintained from the outside. The rooms we saw were all nicely decorated - and better looking than the main room we first saw. The exercise room could have been a bit larger, but it seemed adequate in any case. The book selection was decent. The staff seemed very nice. They did have things for the seniors to do - like games and other opportunities to socialize. There was a list of activities and events that seniors are encouraged to participate in. However, the energy there seemed a bit lacking. We were unable to tell if it was because the seniors were uninterested or simply not capable of participating. The food did not look as appetizing as the fresher food we have grown accustomed to seeing. There was nothing outstanding about the menu - it just looked very basic. The facility looked like it was well tended - the grounds were neat. The interior had a nice decor - but nothing particularly worth noting. The rooms were nicely kept and decorated. The staff was friendly and seemed to attend to all of the residents well enough. There weren't as many communal rooms as we've been seeing at other facilities. The spaces we did see seemed to suit their purposes well. Overall, the facility looked like it had potential, but we just weren't that impressed with it - compared to others we've visited recently in the region.

This retirement community is an older facility and there are larger rooms, nice courtyards and a beautiful entry. The grounds are maintained ok. The activities are excellent and well planned. Unfortunately only a small percentaqge of the residents take advantage of these opportunities. Site managers come and go, and usually don't develop a relationship with the residents, which would be very comforting to the elderly living there. The dining experience leaves something to be desired. Many changes have been made over the years, with each change, we hope for the best. Unlike the activities, ALL residents have meals! A large portion of their day, each day is spent in the dining room waiting for meals. This should be something that they can look forward to, with the anticipation of a well planned and executed meal. This is not the case! The food has improved slightly in the last few months, but isn't consistent and never can be depended upon. Several residents eat in their rooms, having something they have fixed, instead of going to the dining room and being disappointed. Meals are included in your rent, so you pay for meals regardless. Unfortunatly the older generation, THE GREAT GENERATION, was raised not to complain and I feel the facility takes advantage of that fact. There are a few residents, who actually say what everyone else is thinking about the food, and they are labeled trouble makers and dismissed. There are a few residents, who were there when the facility opened. Meals at that time were excellent and even shared with outside friends, whom they would invite. The rates, of course, increase every year, but the quality of food certainly is substandard Unfortunately that may be the case in many of these facilities, which is very unfortunate. Where is Jamie Oliver when you need him????.
